Abstract

Whitening cream is a type of cosmetics containing various chemical substances that can lighten dark spots on the skin. Prolonged use of whitening cream is claimedto be able to reduce or even eliminate hyperpigmentation on the skin. However, many whitening creams contain mercury which can cause pigmentation with permanent damages on the skin and body. The creams sometimes have no BPOM permission and are sold at a cheap price. This study thus aimed to investigate the presence of Mercury (Hg) in facial whitening creams of two different brands, namely Natural 99 and Collagen Night, circulating at Lueng Putu Market, Bandar Baru District, Pidie Jaya Regency. These brands were selected because they are popular among women living around the Lueng Putu market. This type of research was experimental. Based on the examination of the mercury content in two samples using a positive atomic absorption spectrophotometer method, it was found that there ismercury (Hg) with level of 176.2578 in Sample1 and level of 172.7299 in Sample 2.This concentration exceeds the threshold set by the BPOM RI Number 12 of 2019, which should be no more than 1 mg/kg or 1 mg/L (ppm). It is thus suggested that customers stop using the creamsto avoid their dangerous effects. For detoxification purpose, customers should use skin care products with natural ingredients, such as fruit masks for external treatment, andconsume fruit, vegetables, and more water for internal treatment.Consulting a doctor is highly advised before and after using certain whitening creams. Abstract

This research aimed to investigate Indonesian students’ self-confidence in learning as one solution for the government to improve Indonesian students’ learning outcomes. The research focused on Math because the evaluation result from Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) showed that Indonesia was in the 39th position in the world in 2007 for Math Excellence, indicating that more effort needs to be made to improve it. The government has approached this issue by improving the education quality and infrastructure; however, it is also necessary to view it from the psychological perspective, particularly from the students’ self-confidence in learning. This research was qualitative research. It used TIMSS data analyzed with Latent Class Analysis. The research sample was 4403 students of grade eight from 149 Indonesian schools. The findings showed that there are three categories of students’ self-confidence: 1) strong self-confidence (25%), 2) moderate self-confidence (55%), and 3) low self-confidence (20%). Due to a high number of students with a moderate and low level of self-confidence, it is thus advised that the government adopts the psychological approach in education, improve the competencies of teachers and supervisors, and improve teaching and learning methodologies in addition to improving infrastructure so that students’ self-confidence in learning can be increased, and the desired learning outcomes can be achieved. Despite focusing on Math, the findings of this study are also applicable to other subjects. Keywords:  Self-confidence, Self-efficacy, Latent Class Analysis.

Abstract

Echinoderms are marine animals which include sea cucumbers and starfish phylum. These animals can be found in almost every level of sea zonal depth; from the intertidal zone to the abyssal zone. This phylum contains about 7000 living species, making it the second-largest group after chordates. This study aims to determine the types of Echinoderms found in Drieng Leupung Beach. The parameters used were the types of Echinoderms found in Drieng Leupung Beach. The research was conducted using the line transect method with purposive sampling technique. The data were presented descriptively, and the results show that the beach location is home for 4 classes of Echinoderms; 8 species of Asteroidea class, 5 species of Holothuroidea class, 4 species from Echinoidea class, and 1 species from Ophiuroidea class, with a total of 17 species found.  Species of Crinoidea class was not found. The most common type of species found is from the Echinoidea class, namely Diadema Setosum. This is due to the environmental factors that are very supportive for the species to grow. One of which is the temperature factor, which is around 26o C-28o C, which is an ideal temperature for Diadema Setosum to breed. The availability of food is another influential factor.   Keywords: Identification, Echinodermata (Echinoderms), Drieng Beach

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a population that still uses the agricultural sector as the highest livelihood. The Central Statistics Agency said 38.61% were in this sector. However, the issue of climate change caused by an increase in global temperature has begun to impact the agricultural sector in several regions. Therefore, this study aims to understand the effect of increasing surface temperature anomaly on the Oldeman climate pattern in Dumai City. The data used are in-situ observation rainfall data for 1981 - 2010, rainfall reanalysis data for 1991 - 2020, surface temperature anomaly data for 1991 - 2020. The data validation methods used are spearman correlation and Kendall-tau methods. The approach to explore changes in the Oldeman climate pattern uses time series analysis techniques such as ACF, PACF, and moving average of 1 year lag-time with a period of 10 years. The rainfall data validation test result show that the average spatial correlation value is 0.86. It can be used to explore time-series climate data in 3 locations in Dumai. As a result, time series analysis found a positive trend in rainfall data significantly along with the temperature anomaly but the Oldeman's climate pattern analysis in Dumai is monitored as stable in type B1. Overall, it is concluded that the change in the surface temperature anomaly variability and trend as a manifestation of climate change in Dumai has not impacted in the Oldeman agricultural climate patterns.
