Abstract

This study aims to describe how the role of parents in strengthening the character of honesty when learning at home during the Covid-19 pandemic. To achieve this goal, a qualitative research approach was used with a case study research design. The research subjects are 3 parents lived in Gedang Kulut Village, Cerme District, Gresik Regency. The instruments used to collect data in this study were observation and in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed using an interactive analysis model proposed by Miles and Huberman. The results of the data analysis show that the strengthening of the character of honesty when learning at home is still weak. This can be seen from the behavior of children who are still not honest to their teachers when working on assignments, midterm tests and final exams. The low character of honesty possessed by children is caused by a lack of independent character and still relying on their parents to do the schoolwork. Character strengthening was carried out by parents to their children by providing exemplary, motivation and punishment. Exemplary is given to children by providing examples of good character, motivation is carried out by providing examples of positive behavior when the child does not have an enthusiasm for learning and wants to do a dishonest behavior. Lastly, the punishment is given when the child cannot behave honestly to their parents, teachers, and themselves. Indirectly, the three strategies of honesty character strengthening certainly have a profound impact on the child's growth process while learning at home in the Covid-19 pandemic. Keywords: Role of Parents, Honesty, Covid-19.

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the educational system has changed. This brought a significant shift to class and teaching management as well. Teachers manage their classes in various ways by utilizing digital platforms. This study aims at finding out students’ perspective on using website in the teaching and learning process. This study was conducted by using qualitative approach design, with the descriptive case study method. There were 17 university students at Universitas Teuku Umar who were involved as the respondents in this study. In data collection, an interview set consisting of 6 questions was distributed to students. Later, the data were analyzed using interactive analysis through the three steps, which are data identification, data display, and data verification. The result shows that students have positive feedbacks toward the use of websites during online learning rather than other digital platforms. The reasons are the constant availability, length adequacy, and completeness. The implication of this study is that it is more preferrable for students to learn by using websites—or better known as e-learning system—rather than other platforms. Keywords: learning websites, e-learning, positive feedback, digital classroom, COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the effects of online learning on psychomotor changes in short story writing among students of SMPN 4, Banda Aceh. The data were taken from the students’ short stories at SMPN 4 Banda Aceh. The methods used were descriptive qualitative and quantitative. Techniques used to collect the datawerea test, observation, interview and documentation. The data were then processed using the SPSS program. Based on the results of the linearity test, there was a significant linear relationship between psychomotor changes (X) and learning in short story writing (Y). However, this relationship was only slightly affected, namely 8.6% while the rest was influenced by external factors from the research variables, namely laziness and student boredom. The results of the regression test also show that online learning at SMPN 4 Banda Aceh has no significant effects on psychomotor changes in writing short stories. Meanwhile, the results of interviews with teachers and students revealed that online learning has positive and negative effects depending on the learning patterns. Keywords: online learning, psychomotor, short stories writing.

Abstract

Whitening cream is a type of cosmetics containing various chemical substances that can lighten dark spots on the skin. Prolonged use of whitening cream is claimedto be able to reduce or even eliminate hyperpigmentation on the skin. However, many whitening creams contain mercury which can cause pigmentation with permanent damages on the skin and body. The creams sometimes have no BPOM permission and are sold at a cheap price. This study thus aimed to investigate the presence of Mercury (Hg) in facial whitening creams of two different brands, namely Natural 99 and Collagen Night, circulating at Lueng Putu Market, Bandar Baru District, Pidie Jaya Regency. These brands were selected because they are popular among women living around the Lueng Putu market. This type of research was experimental. Based on the examination of the mercury content in two samples using a positive atomic absorption spectrophotometer method, it was found that there ismercury (Hg) with level of 176.2578 in Sample1 and level of 172.7299 in Sample 2.This concentration exceeds the threshold set by the BPOM RI Number 12 of 2019, which should be no more than 1 mg/kg or 1 mg/L (ppm). It is thus suggested that customers stop using the creamsto avoid their dangerous effects. For detoxification purpose, customers should use skin care products with natural ingredients, such as fruit masks for external treatment, andconsume fruit, vegetables, and more water for internal treatment.Consulting a doctor is highly advised before and after using certain whitening creams.
