Abstract

Grand Maerokoco is a tourist site in Semarang, located close to Marina beach. The presence of mangroves in Maerokoco, is expected to protect it from the coastal disaster, as well as to make it as a new attraction. This study assessed the benefits of mangroves addition in Grand Maerokoco according to visitor perception, economic valuation toward mangrove plantation in there, and its ability to reduce noises. Visitor perception could be known by conducting interviews. Economic valuation measurement employed was TCM (Travel Cost Method). Then for determining the ability to reduce noises, a noise measurement using sound level meter was conducted. Based on visitor perception, existence of mangroves in Grand Maerokoco can increase the attraction, increase the number of visitors, make the air cooler and cleaner, reduce the noise, and prevent the entry of coastal floods. The existing noise known at some point of crowds is still below the threshold standards of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), caused by mangroves in Maerokoco are high and dense. The potential consumer surplus value per individual per visit is Rp717,792.00. The value indicates the visitors get the benefits of environmental services greater than the cost incurred. For increasing the values, utilizing mangroves for education and agribusiness functions, along with maintenance should be done.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the potential of developing community-based marine ecotourism on Samalona Island. The research seeks to analyze the policies concerning marine ecotourism development, the level of community engagement in this process, and the social consequences of implementing community-based marine ecotourism on Samalona Island, Makassar City. The study employs a verification approach within qualitative research, where the researchers act as instruments in data collection through various methods such as observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The findings of this study reveal several significant points. Firstly, the inadequacy of the community-based ecotourism development policy targeting Samalona Island is evident, partly attributed to the lack of a comprehensive Makassar City tourism development master plan. Additionally, the level of community participation in the planning and development of the tourism sector is limited, primarily confined to endorsing policies without actively contributing to decision-making processes. Despite its ability to boost the local economy, the positive environmental impact of community-based marine ecotourism on Samalona Island remains minimal. However, the study recognizes that this article contributes to a better understanding of the potential for marine ecotourism development on Samalona Island.

Abstract

Garut Regency has great tourism potential with increasing visits, but there needs to be more information regarding tourists' journeys during their visit. This study aims to understand the journey of tourists before, during, and after visiting Garut Regency using the visitor journey variables in five phases (dreaming, planning, booking, experience, and sharing). The method used is quantitative research with a descriptive statistical approach, using a questionnaire as the research instrument. Most tourists who have visited Garut Regency in the past year are female Gen Z students from West Java, with few tourists from outside West Java. In the Dreaming phase, they plan to travel to other provinces, especially beaches, using private vehicles with their families. In the Planning phase, tourists pay attention to affordable prices, unique and beautiful nature, and local cuisine. Instagram social media serves as the primary source of information. In the Booking phase, tourists are interested in attractive destination photos and prefer offline ticket bookings rather than through OTA. In the Experience phase, tourists are motivated to visit with an average of more than four visits and expenses below IDR 1 million. Natural tourism has become the main image of Garut Regency. In the Sharing phase, most tourists share their experiences through Instagram social media after visiting Garut Regency.
