Abstract

ackground: Poor sleep quality is a prevalent symptom reported by type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, and with impaired glycemic control, decreased quality of life, psychological distress, and an increased risk of diabetes-related complications. Sleep disturbances may also negatively affect treatment adherence and daily functioning. Despite its clinical significance, a culturally adapted and validated instrument for assessing sleep quality in Indonesian patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus remains limited. To address the existing literature gap, this study translated and adapted the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Indonesia and evaluated its validity and reliability. Methods: This study employed a quantitative descriptive design using a cross-sectional approach. The translation and cultural adaptation process followed recommended guidelines, including translation, expert panel review, and pilot testing. Content validity was assessed by a panel of experts. Reliability testing was conducted using Cronbach’s alpha to assess internal consistency. A convenience sample of 140 adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus completed the instrument. Results: The item content validity and a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient were 1 and 0.712, respectively. The findings demonstrated that the Indonesian version of the PSQI-I had satisfactory validity and reliability. The content validity index indicated good relevance. The overall Cronbach’s alpha indicates acceptable internal consistency reliability. Conclusion: Bahasa Indonesia version of the PSQI (PSQI-I) is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing sleep quality among Indonesian patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This instrument may be used in clinical and nursing practice, as well as in future research, to evaluate sleep-related problems in this population.

Abstract

Background: In Denpasar City, the prevalence of hypertension and its complications has increased from year to year. The occurrence of complications among hypertensive patients is largely due to poor blood pressure control behavior. To improve patients’ blood pressure control behavior, it is necessary to develop a predictive model that considers social support from healthcare providers, as well as patients’ perceptions and beliefs. Objectives: To develop a predictive model of blood pressure control behavior using the Health Belief Model (HBM) approach. Methods: This study consisted of two phases: a quantitative phase using a cross-sectional design and a quasi-experimental phase employing a nonequivalent (pretest and posttest) control group design. The study was conducted over a two-month period in Denpasar City. The study population included hypertensive patients who were actively registered in the primary healthcare center's medical records. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and cross- tabulation. Results: Of the 192 respondents, 59.8% were found to have poor blood pressure control behavior. The SEM analysis showed a good model fit, with behavioral factors such as self-efficacy (coefficient = 0.370; p = 0.001), healthcare provider support (coefficient = 0.244; p = 0.004), and perceived susceptibility (coefficient = -0.084; p = 0.000) significantly influencing blood pressure control behavior. The predictive behavior model was successfully developed based on the findings of the previous research stages. The intervention using the predictive behavior model effectively improved blood pressure control behavior (PR = 5.6; p = 0.022). Conclusion: The predictive behavior model based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) was successfully developed and demonstrated the ability to enhance blood pressure control behavior. Therefore, its application should be expanded to prevent complications among hypertensive patients in Denpasar City.

Abstract

Background: The rate of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia was 61.33% in 2021 and increased to 64.5% in 2022. The government has set a target of 80% for exclusive breastfeeding; however, this target has not yet been achieved. Efforts to increase this coverage include providing accurate and appropriate information regarding the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for both mothers and infants, which can enhance public awareness of its importance. Inadequate breast milk removal can result in breast swelling or breast milk engorgement . Breast milk engorgement in postpartum mothers requires proper care and management. The researchers conducted this study at PMB Tjasini because many postpartum mothers experience breast milk engorgement at this facility. This study aimed to determine the effect of cabbage leaf compresses on breast milk engorgement at PMB (Independent Midwife Practice) Tjasini in 2025. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The study population comprised 10 postpartum mothers in the PMB Tjasini area. The sample included 10 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Results: The univariate analysis showed that the mean breast pain score in postpartum mothers before receiving cabbage leaf compresses was 5.80, while after the intervention it decreased to 3.80. The bivariate analysis showed a significant effect of cabbage leaf compresses on breast pain in postpartum mothers in the PMB Tjasini area in 2025 (p-value = 0.000). Conclusion: Breast milk engorgement can be prevented by increasing support for postpartum mothers to initiate breastfeeding early.

Abstract

Introduction Prolonged labor is a childbirth complication that contributes to high maternal mortality and can negatively affect both the mother and the baby. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as the Rebozo technique and lavender aromatherapy, have proven to be effective in accelerating labor. However, studies that examine the effectiveness of both interventions remain limited. This study aimed to identify participant characteristics (age, parity, contractions, hemoglobin levels), assess intervention outcomes, measure the second stage duration after intervention, and analyze the relationship between the combination of Rebozo technique and lavender aromatherapy and the duration of the second stage of labor Methods This study used a quasi-experimental posttest-only design. Participants consisted of 32 laboring mothers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using observation sheets and analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results The results revealed that most participants were of ideal age (75%), multiparous (65.6%), had normal hemoglobin levels (78.1%), and experienced adequate uterine contractions (93.8%). A total of 65.6% of participants received the intervention completely, and after the intervention, 93.8% experienced a shorter second stage of labor than the theoretical duration. The Chi-square test indicated a significant relationship between the intervention and the duration of the second stage of labor (p = 0.044; X² = 4.073; OR = 1.222). Conclusions In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between the combined intervention of the Rebozo technique and lavender aromatherapy and the duration of the second stage of labor. Mothers who received the incomplete intervention had a 1.2 times higher risk of experiencing a prolonged second stage of labor compared wi

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting remains a significant public health concern in low- and middle-income countries, including Indonesia, with determinants that extend beyond nutrition and infection. Environmental exposures, particularly household tobacco smoke, have emerged as important contributors to impaired child growth. This study examined the association between household tobacco smoke exposure and stunting among children under five years of age, adjusting for selected biological and environmental factors. A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among 420 children aged 6–59 months in urban and peri-urban areas of Makassar, Indonesia. Data collection involved caregiver interviews and standardized anthropometric measurements. Stunting was defined as a height-for- age z-score below −2 standard deviations according to World Health Organization (WHO) Child Growth Standards. Household tobacco smoke exposure was assessed through caregiver self-report. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to estimate adjusted odds ratios (AORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The overall prevalence of stunting was 36.7%. Children exposed to household tobacco smoke had a higher prevalence of stunting compared to those unexposed (45.7% vs. 26.6%). After adjustment for potential confounders, tobacco smoke exposure was significantly associated with increased odds of stunting (AOR = 2.30; 95% CI: 1.53–3.48; p < 0.001). Stunting was common among the study population, and the association between household tobacco smoke exposure and stunting persisted after adjustment for relevant factors. Child age was also significantly associated with stunting, while other variables were not statistically significant. In conclusion, household tobacco smoke exposure is significantly associated with stunting among children under five in Indonesia. These findings underscore the need to incorporate environmental and behavioral risk factors, including tobacco control, into comprehensive strategies for stunting prevention.
