Abstract

Background: Neonatal outcomes are key indicators of the quality of childbirth services and newborn adaptation. Complementary childbirth approaches, including hypnobirthing relaxation techniques, murottal therapy, and rebozo techniques, have been shown to enhance maternal comfort and facilitate a physiological labor process. The present study analyzed the effect of a complementary childbirth service model on neonatal outcomes. Methods: A quasi-experimental posttest-only control group design was employed, involving 60 women in labor (30 per group) recruited through purposive sampling without randomization. The intervention group received integrated complementary childbirth care, whereas the control group received standard care. Neonatal outcomes assessed included initial newborn assessment, APGAR score, blood glucose level within the first 24 hours after birth, and neonatal temperature status. Categorical outcomes were analyzed using Fisher's exact test, and the intervention effect was estimated using risk ratio (RR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) (α = 0.05). Result: No significant differences were observed in initial newborn assessment, APGAR scores, or blood glucose levels between groups (all p = 1.000). However, neonatal vital signs differed significantly (p = 0.005), with the intervention group exhibiting a lower incidence of hypothermia (50.0% vs. 86.7%; RR = 0.58, 95% CI: 0.35). Conclusion:The integrated complementary childbirth care model was associated with improved neonatal temperature regulation, specifically a reduced incidence of hypothermia. These findings should be interpreted with caution due to the purposive sampling, non-randomized allocation, and posttest-only study design.

Abstract

Background: Infant mortality remains an important indicator of public health status, partly caused by delayed early detection of pregnancy complications due to inadequate knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of pregnant women regarding pregnancy danger signs. Digital health technology (mobile health/mHealth), including the SATUSEHAT Mobile application, has the potential to improve maternal health literacy. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the SATUSEHAT Mobile application in improving pregnant women's knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors toward early detection of pregnancy risks in Bandar Lampung City in 2026. A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group design was conducted on 72 second- and third-trimester pregnant women (36 intervention and 36 control). The intervention group received education and guidance on using the application for four weeks. Data were collected using pretest-posttest questionnaires and analyzed using paired sample and independent sample t-tests. Results showed significant improvements in the intervention group, with knowledge increasing from 49.88 to 69.88 (p<0.001), attitude from 40.77 to 49.52 (p<0.001), and behavior from 53.13 to 63.69 (p<0.001), with large to very large effect sizes. The independent sample t-test revealed significant differences between the intervention and control groups in knowledge, attitude, and behavior (p<0.001). The SATUSEHAT Mobile application is effective as a digital health promotion tool for improving pregnant women's knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors toward early detection of pregnancy risk.

Abstract

Background: Sleep disturbances and fatigue frequently occur in patients undergoing hemodialysis. This study investigated whether a combination of sleep hygiene education and lavender aromatherapy improved sleep quality and fatigue. Methods: A quasi-experimental, non-equivalent control-group pretest– posttest design, enrolling 84 patients consecutively and allocating them basedon pre-existing hemodialysis schedules (42 intervention; 42 control). The intervention group received two sessions of sleep hygiene education and nightly lavender aromatherapy via reed diffuser for four weeks, while the control group received usual care. We measured sleep quality and fatigue using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the FACIT-Fatigue Scale. Group-by-time effects were analyzed using generalized estimating equations. In the intervention group, median PSQI scores improved from 19.00 (IQR 17.25–20.00) to 2.00 (IQR 1.00–3.00), while the control group changed from 19.00 (IQR 17.00–20.00) to 18.50 (IQR 17.00–20.00). Result: Median FACIT-Fatigue scores increased from 25.00 (IQR 20.00– 27.00) to 48.00 (IQR 44.00–50.00) in the intervention group and from 22.00 (IQR 20.00–24.00) to 23.00 (IQR 21.00–25.00) in the control group. Significant group-by-time interactions were observed for PSQI (β = −16.44, 95% CI −17.22 to −15.65; p < 0.001) and FACIT-Fatigue (β = 22.26, 95% CI 20.61–23.91; p < 0.001). Conclusion: The combination of sleep hygiene education and lavender aromatherapy led to greater improvements in sleep quality and fatigue than usual care. However, interpret these findings with caution because the groups were not randomized.

Abstract

Background: Malnutrition in early life can disrupt central nervous system development, including myelination and cognitive function. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid, plays an important role in neuronal membrane integrity, neural development, and cognitive function. This study aimed to analyze the effects of different DHA doses on cerebral myelin profiles and spatial memory in malnourished Wistar rats. Methods: This true experimental study involved 30 Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) randomly allocated into five groups (n=6): normal control (K−), malnourished control (K+), and malnourished groups receiving DHA at 10.8 mg/day (P1), 16.2 mg/day (P2), or 27 mg/day (P3) for 12 days. Spatialmemory was assessed using the Y-maze test, and cerebral myelin profiles were examined using immunohistochemistry. Data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA followed by appropriate post hoc tests. Result: Body weight increased in all groups. Cerebral myelin profiles differed significantly between groups (p=0.037; ηp²=0.325), with a trend toward higher profiles at higher DHA doses. Spatial memory also differed significantly (p=0.001; ηp²=0.499). Games–Howell analysis showed lower spatial memory in malnourished controls than in normal controls (p=0.002), P2 (p=0.024), and P3 (p<0.001), whereas P1 did not differ significantly from malnourished controls. Conclusion: DHA supplementation affected cerebral myelin profiles and spatial memory in malnourished Wistar rats, with more consistent spatial memory effects at 16.2 and 27 mg/day.
