Abstract

This study aims to explore the socio-cultural dynamics in the implementation of bureaucratic reform in regional health services, focusing on the role of leadership styles and organizational communication in influencing employee performance at the Department of Health, Population Control, and Family Planning in Banggai Laut Regency. A qualitative case study approach was used, employing in-depth interviews, limited participant observation, and document analysis. The results indicate that local values such as kinship, hierarchy, deliberation, and mutual cooperation continue to influence bureaucratic processes, both as strengths and as challenges. Participatory leadership styles and two-way communication patterns significantly enhance work motivation, collaboration, and accountability. Organizational culture shaped by local values supports internal cohesion, although challenges remain, including resistance to change and limited human resource capacity. Strategies implemented to improve organizational performance include exemplary leadership, continuous training, an open and innovative work climate, and the integration of local cultural values with modern governance principles. The study concludes that the success of bureaucratic reform in the health sector at the regional level depends heavily on the organization’s ability to synergize local wisdom with professional bureaucratic standards.

Abstract

Stunting remains a serious public health problem worldwide. Globally, its prevalence reaches 23.2%, while in Indonesia in 2024 it was recorded at 19.8%. The situation in Sukatepu Village is even more alarming, with 43.5% of children aged 24–50 months affected. This figure far exceeds the 20% threshold set by WHO, highlighting the urgent need for effective interventions, especially those utilizing local food resources. One promising approach is the use of tomatoes, a fruit rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. Through this community service program, tomatoes were processed into a healthy, low-sugar snack called Nata de Tomato using Acetobacter xylinum fermentation. The program aimed not only to increase family nutrition knowledge but also to equip the community with practical skills to produce functional foods that can help improve children’s nutritional intake. The program engaged 23 participants, including teenage girls, posyandu (community health post) cadres, and housewives. Activities involved nutrition education, hands-on training in Nata de Tomato production, and sensory testing to evaluate product acceptance. Results were encouraging: 80% of participants successfully produced Nata de Tomato according to standard procedures, their understanding of nutrition significantly improved, and nearly 95% of tasters reported liking the product’s taste, aroma, color, and texture. Overall, processing tomatoes into Nata de Tomato shows strong potential as a community-based nutrition intervention to prevent stunting while promoting healthier eating habits using local food resources.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that affects children’s physical growth, brain development, and overall quality of life. Prevention efforts should begin during pregnancy through adequate nutritional intake, maternal health care, and positive stimulation for the fetus. This community service program aimed to educate pregnant women on early stunting prevention through a combination of prenatal exercise and classical Mozart music stimulation. The method applied was Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) with lectures, discussions, direct practice, and Q&A sessions. The activity was conducted in Ngadirenggo Village, Wlingi District, Blitar Regency, involving 24 pregnant women in their second and third trimesters. The educational materials covered the relationship between maternal health and stunting risk, the benefits of classical music for fetal brain development, and prenatal exercise movements that promote blood circulation and nutrient distribution. The results showed high enthusiasm and active participation among attendees, with most reporting relaxation, improved physical comfort, and positive fetal responses when music was played. Prenatal exercise was also perceived as reducing muscle tension and increasing comfort during pregnancy. This program concludes that combining physical and sensory interventions can serve as a supportive strategy in stunting prevention; however, it must be complemented by optimal nutrition and regular prenatal check-ups.

Abstract

Anemia is a health problem that is still an important indicator of health status in society. Anemia is a condition where hemoglobin levels are less than normal (<12.5-17.0 gr/dl). Vulnerable groups who experience anemia in society are women and teenagers. Adolescents are at risk of losing iron, because in adolescents there is a growth process that requires an increased need for iron. This community service aims to create cadres to prevent anemia among teenagers. The method of implementing this service is carried out in several stages including coordination with partners, formation of Ceria cadres, cadre development, and socialization of Ceria cadres. The results of this service were that 13 Ceria Cadres underwent anemia screening and Ceria Cadre coaching. The results of the anemia screening showed that 38.46% had anemia, the majority on the pretest questionnaire had sufficient knowledge (53.85%), the posttest had good knowledge (100%) and the evaluation of hemoglobin levels after coaching was 100% normal. The conclusion is that there is an increase in knowledge and hemoglobin levels in Ceria Cadres after coaching.

Abstract

Indonesia, located within the Pacific Ring of Fire, is highly susceptible to natural disasters, particularly earthquakes. These events pose significant risks, including infrastructure damage, injuries, and psychosocial effects, especially among populations lacking proper preparedness, such as elementary school children. This community service activity focuses on increasing earthquake preparedness awareness among 3rd-grade students at Lazuardi Depok, West Java. The goal was to educate and enhance students' understanding of earthquake safety measures through interactive and engaging activities. The approach included presentations, simulations, and educational videos. The methods used involved pre-tests and post-tests to assess students' knowledge before and after the session. Results indicated an improvement in earthquake preparedness, with post-test scores increasing by 4.8 points compared to the pre-test. Additionally, the students demonstrated their ability to perform appropriate safety actions during earthquake simulations. This program effectively contributed to raising awareness and enhancing earthquake preparedness among students. It is recommended that similar educational initiatives be conducted regularly to ensure the long-term retention of preparedness skills.

Abstract

Residents of Paropo I Village face serious challenges accessing clean water due to Lake Toba’s declining quality and reduced mountain spring flow, especially during the rainy season. KJA (Keramba Jaring Apung) workers often use untreated lake water for hygiene, increasing dermatitis cases. A community service program was developed to address this issue, supporting SDGs 3 and 6 by promoting environmental stewardship and appropriate clean water technologies. Previous research identified underutilization of clean water facilities (CWF) due to low public awareness and poor maintenance. The program fosters behavior change and public health improvement through community engagement, educational videos, and mentoring KJA workers on hygiene practices. It also strengthens local capacity via the PANRAIR (Pantau dan Rawat Air Bersih) initiative, empowering KJA owners to lead sustainable CWF management. Expected outcomes include better sanitation knowledge, improved hygiene, and stronger governance. Outputs include media coverage, educational content, and increased community participation. Partners contribute by offering meeting spaces and mobilizing support for CWF revitalization

Abstract

Fire hazards are one of the potential disasters in hospitals that can threaten both human safety and assets. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the fire emergency response system at X Hospital Dumai City. The study employed a qualitative case study design. The main informants were members of the Hospital Occupational Safety and Health Committee (K3RS), supported by hospital staff as secondary informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and document review, then analyzed using triangulation techniques. The findings revealed several issues: (1) the installation of active fire protection systems (alarms, detectors, sprinklers) was not yet optimal, (2) the hospital lacked certified fire safety specialists, (3) no schedule for fire training and drills was available, and (4) several fire extinguishers were found with abnormal pressure. A fishbone analysis identified contributing factors, including man (lack of awareness and specialists), money (limited budget allocation), material (inadequate fire protection facilities), and method (absence of training schedules). The proposed interventions include hiring fire safety specialists, allocating budget for improving and adding fire protection facilities, installing emergency lighting on escape stairs, replacing damaged extinguishers, and conducting regular fire drills at least once a year. This study recommends that the hospital strengthen its fire emergency response system through improved facilities, regular training, and continuous supervision.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity represent a significant public health burden in Indonesia, including the Special Region of Yogyakarta. To enhance early detection and preventive action, the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta, in collaboration with the Sleman District Health Office through Puskesmas Gamping 2, conducted a Free Health Check-up on Sunday, October 12, 2025, from 08.00 to 12.00 WIB at the Siti Bariyah Building, Faculty of Medicine UNISA Yogyakarta. This community service employed a Participatory Action Research approach, engaging participants throughout the process from registration, anthropometric measurements, vital signs assessment, simple laboratory tests, and visual acuity checks, to medical consultation, personalized health education, symptomatic medication, and referral for at-risk individuals. Among 141 participants, the majority were young adults (20–29 years) and female; 33.3% were classified as obese, 44.0% as pre-hypertensive, 7.1% as pre-diabetic, and 60.3% had abnormal cholesterol levels. The intervention facilitated early identification of NCD risk, immediate preventive measures, and referral to health services for high-risk participants. The program also strengthened the framework for sustainable community-based screening, provided practical experience for medical students, and established a replicable model of promotive and preventive collaboration between academic institutions and local health authorities. The results demonstrate that structured community interventions combining screening, education, and follow-up can effectively contribute to NCD prevention and support long-term public health initiatives.
