Abstract

Persons with disabilities in Indonesia still face significant challenges in achieving independence due to discriminatory views and limited access to various services, including assistive devices. In Surabaya City, with a substantial number of persons with disabilities, the Social Services Department of Surabaya City, through its social rehabilitation program, strives to improve their quality of life by distributing assistive devices. This program involves systematic stages, starting from receiving reports, conducting field surveys, measuring assistive devices, to distributing aid to recipients in need. The program successfully distributed various assistive devices, such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, and prosthetic limbs, with a total of 254 units during the writer's internship period (September 23 - December 31, 2024). As a result, recipients demonstrated significant improvements in independence, both in carrying out daily activities and in interacting with others. Additionally, the families of the recipients also experienced benefits in the form of reduced burdens, as family members who were previously fully dependent now have greater abilities to manage their own needs. This program is expected to continue to grow and provide further solutions to help build an inclusive and empowered society for persons with disabilities in Surabaya.

Abstract

Gampong Mee Tanjong Usi is located in Mutiara Timur District, Pidie Regency, Aceh Province, and has residents whose main livelihood is as farmers. The dense population makes agricultural land scarce. Aquaponic cultivation system is an innovation offered as a solution. The Aquaponics system combines a hydroponic system and an aquaculture system. This PKM activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of the “Mee Meuhase” group from Gampong Mee Tajong Usi in managing aquaponic systems, producing local food products and increasing income. The implementation method begins with observation and outreach, training and assistance in creating an Aquaponics system, application of technology as well as monitoring and evaluation of program sustainability. The fish seeds cultivated are tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and the vegetables grown are spinach (Amaranthus sp) and pokcoy (Brassica rapa L.). As a result of the implementation of the activity, the activity went well with high enthusiasm from the participants. Education and training that assembles, manages aquaponic systems, produces environmentally friendly products, increases environmental awareness and helps increase income.

Abstract

The global prevalence of congenital defect reaches 0.992 per 1,000 live births, with a high incidence rate also observed in Jember Regency, particularly in Rambipuji District. Nutrition intake, including protein, is essential to prevent congenital defect, but many sufferers come from families with poor nutritional intake. To prevent congenital defect through education and assistance in planting healthy crops for family nutrition and mapping cases in Jember Regency as a promotive and preventive measure. This study design is a quasi-experimental using pretest and posttest. Participants consisted of 30 married couples aged 14-49 years. The intervention included two educational sessions on congenital defect and the management of healthy crops to be processed into nutritious food. A healthy food recipe book was provided, followed by a cooking demonstration by each participant. The knowledge of couples of reproductive ages increased from pretest to posttest with an average increase of 22.5. Statistical analysis using Wilcoxon showed a significant difference in the knowledge of couples of reproductive ages after the intervention (p=0.000). Providing education and training effectively increases knowledge and skills in managing food for family nutrition among couples of reproductive ages. Similar studies with a larger population can be conducted to review the effectiveness more comprehensively.

Abstract

Flood disasters in Kuta Village, Central Lombok Regency, are caused by high rainfall intensity, sedimentation, land-use changes, and low public awareness of river conservation. This study evaluates flood mitigation strategies for the Tabelo River through structural and non-structural approach. Hydrological analysis indicates that the river’s cross section is inadequate to handle flood discharge, leading to frequent overflows. Structural measures include sediment dredging to a depth of 1,45 m and constructing 4 m high embankments. Hydraulic modeling using HEC-RAS support these interventions to reduce flooding. Non-structural measures involve community outreach on riverbank regulations based on Ministerial Regulations No. 28 of 2015. This initiative aims to increase public awareness, prevent illegal riverbank constructions, and promote sustainable river management. The enforcement of riverbank regulations is expected to reduce flood risks, improve water quality, and minimize erosion and sedimentation. Additionally, educational posters have been developed to reinforce awareness of flood control and river construction. Integrating structural and non-structural strategies is crucial to mitigating floods and fostering environmental responsibility in Kuta Village.

Abstract

The National Madrasah Research Program serves as a powerful platform for madrasah students to compete at both national and international levels in scientific research through the Madrasah Young Researchers Supercamp (MYRES). This program aims to foster outstanding young talents with extraordinary creative ideas through scientific writing competitions. However, challenges persist, such as limited research skills among teachers, a lack of research-oriented guidebooks, and minimal training and mentoring for madrasah teachers. Students also show low interest in understanding the structure of scientific writing, and their research skills are generally considered underdeveloped. This study aims to optimize the Madrasah Research Program by providing training in proposal writing and exploring current research trends. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which includes the stages: to know, to understand, to plan, to act, and to change. The participants targeted in this study are mentor teachers and students. Based on the results, the training for teachers and students successfully enhanced the effectiveness of the Madrasah Research Program, particularly through workshops and mentoring in writing scientific articles. This improvement was reflected in several areas: increased potential in scientific writing, better understanding of managing the Madrasah Research Program, a greater number of written proposals, and higher interest and comprehension among participants regarding scientific work. Furthermore, participants demonstrated a stronger commitment to producing quality scientific writing, as evidenced by the availability of research idea documents developed into proposals aligned with the MYRES competition framework.

Abstract

Improving the quality of learning is one of the main focuses in the field of education. One factor that plays a role in enhancing students' understanding is the use of interactive learning media. This media allows students to be more active in the learning process, especially in understanding abstract concepts. However, based on interviews with teachers at State Junior High School 1 Huamual Belakang, it was found that the utilization of interactive learning media at that school is still very minimal. Therefore, this Community Service Program (PKM) aims to train teachers in using PhET, Prezi, Seesaw, and Renderforest applications as interactive learning media that can improve student learning outcomes. The method used in this activity is direct instruction, which includes material presentation, demonstrations of application usage, simulations, and discussion and Q&A sessions. The evaluation was conducted through a questionnaire filled out by teachers and students after the training. The analysis results from the questionnaire indicate that the use of interactive learning media received positive feedback from both teachers and students. Teachers felt more assisted in delivering the material, while students found it easier to understand abstract concepts. Thus, this activity has a positive impact on enhancing teachers' skills in utilizing learning technology and helps students understand the material more effectively. This program is expected to be implemented sustainably in other schools to improve the quality of education.
