Abstract

Kitolod plant (isotoma longiflora (L) C.Presl) contains alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins. The content of this compound has antibacterial activity. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water fractions from the ethanolic extract of kitolod leaves against Staphylococcus aureus, and to determine the most active fraction in inhibiting bacteria. This research is an experimental descriptive study. The ethanolic extract of kitolod leaves was obtained by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent, the viscous extract obtained was fractionated with three solvents, and dissolved in 1% DMSO then tested for its antibacterial power by diffusion and dilution method against Staphylococcus aureus at concentrations of 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30% using ofloxacin positive control. The test results obtained were analyzed using the One Way Anova test followed by the Post Hoc Test using the Tukey method using SPSS16. The results of the test using the diffusion method showed that the ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction had antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The most active fraction was the water fraction at a concentration of 30%, with an average inhibition zone diameter of 19.0 mm. The inhibitory power was lower than the positive control ofloxacin (28.3 mm). The dilution method of the water fraction showed a minimum inhibitory concentration and a minimum kill concentration at a concentration of 15%.

Abstract

The incidence of stunting in Indonesia is still high, various efforts have been made by the government to reduce stunting. Stunting is a health problem that often occurs in children which can result in decreased productivity and intelligence in adulthood. This study aims to analyze the prevention factors for stunting at the age of toddlers. Checklist Prisma has been used for registration of titles, abstracts, full texts and methodologies with the keywords Analysis AND stunting AND Prevention AND Intervention. The computerized databases that have been used to search for articles in this study are Science Direct, Pubmed, ProQuest and Google Scholar. Has used articles that report quantitative and qualitative research in journals published in the period 2017 to 2022. The method used in data analysis is thematic analysis. This literature review involved 29 selected articles. There were 8 main factors that could affect stunting, namely nutrition/nutrition, economic status, education/knowledge, sanitation/environment, geographic location, government/cross-sectoral policies, age of marriage and health education. Most of the factors that contribute to stunting prevention are the provision of macronutrient/micronutrient supplements in the form of zinc tablets to adolescent girls, pregnant women, and supplementary feeding to children under five. Most of the studies reported in these 29 articles used a qualitative, quantitative design and were conducted in Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Peru, Nepal, USA and Zimbabwe. In all these articles it is reported that the incidence of stunting is still high in several countries and especially in Indonesia. This literature review reported using 29 articles that met the inclusion criteria from the Science Direct, Pubmed, ProQuest and Google Scholar databases. The results detect the main factors that influence the occurrence of stunting, namely malnutrition in the early 1000 days of life, while for prevention is giving blood/zinc tablets to adolescents, pregnant women.

Abstract

Unwanted pregnancy in adolescents may have negative impacts on physical, psychological, social and spiritual condition. The physical impact could endanger the teenage mothers and even their infants. Psychological stress could trigger a trial to have an abortion which can lead to death. Other psychological effect, the teenage mothers will try to escape from responsibility or keeping to continue their pregnancies by compulsion. Meanwhile, besides, social judgement and scorn, as well as banishing made by surrounding community, the community will also reject the children with unclear parents and they are considered illegal children of adulteries (Husaeni, 2009). Based on data from the Directorate of Maternal Health, the biggest cause of teenage maternal death is bleeding as a result of premature pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to determine the socio-cultural, economic of an unwanted pregnancy in single parent of adolescent mothers. This type of research is qualitative with a phenomenological and ethnographic approach. The population and sample are pregnant women and single parent mothers (having toddlers). The sample size is 9 people. Purposive Sampling Data collection by in-depth interviews (In-depth interview) to adolescents. The research was conducted in TTU District, East Nusa Tenggara. Research Results: 100% teenage single parent mothers do not work, age 15-19 years with the average education of junior high school to senior high school. Socio-culturally, teenagers imitate city life, lack of or abandon themselves from spiritual life in the family, and having trend to try new things. Teenage pregnancies are mostly unwanted as they happened accidentally. It was due to unsafe sex which was partly triggered by feeling bored with life in dormitories, adopting city life, lack of control from parents and family when teenagers return home, low or none of sexual education, simply following others, mutual consent, forced by boyfriends, poor knowledge Lack of knowledge on reproductive health and the influence of social media causes teenagers to have sex which causes unwanted pregnancies and poor socio-economic conditions. Suggestions The importance of preventing unwanted pregnancies in adolescents in schools should be started from the elementary schools by introducing health reproduction. Promotional materials related to reproductive health should be adapted to the age and development level of adolescents. In communities, especially those with low economic status, increasing awareness and knowledge about maternal and infant health is carried out through continuous health promotion.
