Abstract

The rapid global adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed higher education, necessitating research on its impact, particularly in social science fields. This study investigates the perception of 151 undergraduate students from the Social Sciences Education Department at Tanjungpura University towards the role of AI in developing Academic Speaking Skills. Employing a quantitative, descriptive survey design, the research utilizes the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) framework, assessing Perceived Usefulness (PU), Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU), Attitude Toward Using (ATT), and Behavioral Intention to Use (BITU). The findings indicate an overall positive and stable acceptance of AI (Overall Mean 2.895 on a 4 -point scale). Perceived Usefulness is the highest adoption driver (Mean 3.00), with students most strongly agreeing that AI is superior for brainstorming and finding ideas for presentations (Mean 3.26). However, the acceptance is critical and controlled: students showed lower confidence that AI automatically improves the overall quality of their final arguments (Mean 2.66). This discrepancy, alongside the lowest score in Behavioral Intention to Use (Mean 2.74), highlights a controlled integration approach. The study concludes that while AI is highly valued as a creative support tool, there is a crucial and urgent need to integrate mandatory AI Literacy programs into the curriculum to ensure students develop the critical skills necessary to review, adapt, and responsibly use AI output in academic discourse within Higher Education.

Abstract

Taber Laut is a form of local wisdom of the Batu Beriga Village community which is interpreted as an expression of gratitude for the abundant marine products and as a tribute to ancestors. This study aims to analyze other functions of Taber Laut in Batu Beriga Village, namely as a social regulation and a safety valve for conflicts over the use of natural resources. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth reporting, focus group discussions, documentation, and literature studies. The results show that Taber Laut is not only understood as an annual ritual, but also contains customary mechanisms that function to regulate community behavior, create social order, and serve as a tool of social control. The customary rules born from this tradition are conveyed by the traditional leader and mutually agreed upon, so that they have normative power in regulating the activities of coastal communities

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the geographical characteristics, local potential, and distribution of public services in Pisak Village, Tujuh Belas Sub-district, Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with field observation methods to describe spatial and social phenomena within the village. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with the village head and direct observation using Avenza Map to plot the distribution of facilities, while secondary data were collected from village administrative documents and spatial maps. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model, including data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that Pisak Village possesses significant potential in agriculture and tourism. Around 90% of the population works in agriculture, producing dryland rice, vegetables, and palm oil, while its natural attractions, such as the Pisak River and traditional Nyaban’k ritual, highlight the village’s cultural richness. The village's highland location contributes to a cool climate and stable water resources that support agricultural sustainability. Socially, the community maintains strong kinship ties, cooperation, and traditional values. Public facilities, including education, health, and social infrastructure, are evenly distributed across the four hamlets, with the main service centre located in Segiring Hamlet. Spatial analysis indicates that these facilities are well distributed and accessible, supporting balanced rural development. However, challenges remain in human resource development, particularly limited access to secondary education and low economic diversification, which cause dependence on traditional farming. Therefore, improving education and training opportunities is essential to enhance community capacity and achieve sustainable village development. Overall, the study concludes that geographical conditions, local potential, and spatial distribution of services are interrelated and form the basis for inclusive and equitable rural planning in Pisak Village.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship betwwen student musical preferences and their literacy of local wisdom in SMPN 01 Sukadana, Kayong Utara, Indonesia. The background of the problem lies in the increasing influence of global digital culture, particulart through platforms such as YouTube, Tiktok, and Spotify which shapes youth identity and shifts their engagement away from local cultural expressions. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through informal interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis of arts education lesson plans. The study involved 66 students and art teachers selected through purposive sampling. The findings show that students’ musical preferences are dominated by global popular genres such as pop, K-Pop, and EDM, while none of the respondents expressed interest in traditional music. This preference pattern correlates with a significantly low level of local cultural literacy, with 87.88% of students unaware of Sukadana’s local traditions, including the traditional Senggayong music, despite its inclusion in the formal curriculum. The analysis indicates that digital exposure, shifting socio-cultural values, and weak intergenerational transmission contribute to this cultural displacement, where global media overshadow local cultural knowledge. The study concludes that students’ musical preferences reflect broader cultural orientations shaped by digital ecosystems, which in turn influence their limited recognition of local wisdom. While the findings provide important insights into cultural dynamics in regional contexts, further research with broader samples is needed to strengthen generalization and develop pedagogical strategies to reinforce local cultural appreciation among youth.

Abstract

This study aims to describe junior high school students' interpretations of the meaning of the song "Selalu Ada di Nadimu," the original soundtrack (OST) of the film Jumbo, and to examine how cognitive and emotional processes play a role in their interpretations. The researcher employed a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including song playback, distribution of open-ended questionnaires, brief observations, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of seventh and eighth grade students from two schools in Pontianak City, namely SMP Negeri 3 Pontianak and SMP Kristen Immanuel Pontianak, with a total of 121 students whose responses were successfully collected. The results of the study indicate that students’ interpretations of the song "Selalu Ada di Nadimu" reflect four main patterns in their interpretive processes. First, interpretations based on personal experience constitute the largest category, with many students relating the song’s lyrics to their life experiences, struggles, and self-motivation. Second, emotional responses emerge through feelings of sadness and memories of family. Third, cognitive understanding of the lyrical message is reflected in students’ explanations about parental love and support. Fourth, moral values appear, such as the importance of appreciating family and not giving up easily. These findings show that students interpret the song through a combination of personal experiences, emotions, and their ability to understand the lyrics. This study emphasizes that songs can serve as learning media that support adolescents’ cognitive and emotional development, particularly in helping students develop the ability to understand messages, interpret texts, and connect lyrics with their personal experiences.

Abstract

The phenomenon of teenage girls wearing hijabs who smoke in Surabaya shows tension between religious identity, society's moral demands, and social dynamics that shape teen behavior. The hijab, seen as a symbol of piety, often puts women's bodies under strict moral scrutiny, while at the same time teens face pressure to fit in with their friends and digital culture. This study aims to understand the motivations, identity meanings, and the possibility that smoking is seen as a form of resistance to patriarchal norms. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were obtained through in-depth interviews and non-participatory observations of hijab-wearing adolescents aged 14–18 years, supplemented by a literature review on the social construction of women and radical feminist theory. The results show that motivation for smoking is the need for social acceptance, which is influenced by FOMO, peer pressure, and digital culture. This is reinforced by the ideological motive that this behavior reflects adolescents’ efforts to negotiate their sense of self. However, in certain contexts, smoking also serves as a form of symbolic resistance against patriarchal control over women’s bodies. This study concludedes that the identity of women who wear the hijab is not singular. It is shaped through complex interactions between social structures, popular culture, and personal experiences. These findings open up space for further research on the representation of women who wear the hijab in digital culture and its implications for the negotiation of gender identity in urban Muslim communities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social rehabilitation strategies for NAPZA (narcotics, psychotropics, and other addictive substances) survivors at Yayasan Geratak Sambas by applying the theoretical perspectives of Social Learning Theory, Labelling Theory, and Empowerment Theory. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation with survivors, facilitators, and foundation managers. The findings reveal that the rehabilitation process at Geratak Foundation operates through three main stages: (1) admission and initial assessment, (2) social and spiritual rehabilitation, and (3) social reintegration. These stages are implemented through a “therapeutic community” model that integrates spiritual guidance, social activities, and psychological counselling. Field data indicate that approximately 60% of survivors showed improved discipline and responsibility after three months of rehabilitation, 20% experienced significant emotional and social improvements within six months, while the remaining 20% continued to struggle with shame and social stigma despite showing psychological progress. These findings demonstrate that recovery is a gradual and nonlinear process influenced by social support and community acceptance. Through the lens of Social Learning Theory, behavioral changes occur via observation, imitation, and positive reinforcement within a supportive therapeutic environment. Labelling Theory highlights that social stigma poses a major barrier to reintegration, whereas Empowerment Theory emphasizes the importance of individual and community empowerment in fostering moral awareness, resilience, and social independence among survivors. Overall, the community-based rehabilitation strategy implemented by Yayasan Geratak Sambas has proven effective not only in behavioral recovery but also in promoting spiritual awareness, social solidarity, and identity reconstruction.
