Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of Natural Science (IPA) learning outcomes through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model in fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 66 Ambon. The study used a quantitative descriptive approach with 25 students as subjects. The research instruments consisted of tests and non-tests. The test instruments included a pretest to determine students' initial abilities and a posttest to measure improvements in learning outcomes, with a total of 14 questions (10 multiple choice and 4 essay). The non-test instruments were in the form of affective and psychomotor observation sheets and LKPD to assess attitudes, skills, and mastery of the material during the learning process. Data collection techniques were carried out through tests (pretest and posttest) and non-tests. Data analysis used a comparison of the obtained scores and total scores. The final score was obtained from a combination of process assessments and formative test results with the following composition: 20% LKPD, 20% affective aspects, 20% psychomotor, and 40% formative tests. Students are considered to have completed the course if they obtain a score of ? 70, and not yet completed if the score is 70. The results of the study indicate that students' initial abilities are in the not yet completed category (100%). After implementing the PBL model, there was an increase in learning outcomes in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. The average formative test score reached 86.3 with all students achieving learning completion. Therefore, the application of the Problem Based Learning learning model has been proven effective in improving science learning outcomes for fourth-grade students at Public Elementary Schools.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ problem-solving abilities regarding pressure in solids by examining differences based on gender. The research design employs a qualitative approach to gain a deep understanding of the phenomenon. The research procedure began with administering an initial test to all students, followed by the selection of subjects through purposive sampling. The objects of this research were four ninth-grade students (two males and two females) at a public junior high school in Kupang Regency. Data collection techniques were carried out through open-ended essay tests designed based on Polya's problem-solving indicators. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that male students tend to be more systematic in understanding problems and planning solutions but are less thorough in unit conversion. Meanwhile, female students understand the basic concepts well but face obstacles in calculation consistency. The conclusion of the study indicates that female students possess higher metacognitive abilities and accuracy in reviewing results compared to male students.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the psychometric quality of a higher order thinking skills instrument in the topic of the human organ system for junior high school science learning. A descriptive quantitative approach was applied to analyze the validity, reliability, difficulty index, discrimination power, and distractor effectiveness. The instrument consisted of ten multiple-choice items developed based on the revised Bloom’s taxonomy at levels C4-C6. Content validity was examined by two experts using Aiken’s V, while empirical validity was tested with the Pearson Product-Moment correlation. The reliability coefficient was calculated using KR-20. The results show that the content validity values ranged from 0.83 to 0.94 (very valid), and the reliability coefficient reached 0.78 (high category). Eight items demonstrated moderate difficulty, seven items had good discrimination power, and 70 percent of distractors functioned effectively. These findings indicate that the developed HOTS instrument is psychometrically sound and feasible for strengthening 21st-century science assessment, although several items require minor revision to improve balance in difficulty and distractor performance.

Abstract

Science education plays a strategic role in fostering sustainability awareness and competencies among students. One effort to achieve this is through the implementation of Project Based Learning (PjBL) integrated with Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and supported by structured Student Worksheets (LKPD). This study aims to analyze the utilization of ESD-based LKPD as a guideline for implementing PjBL in science learning. The study employed a descriptive approach involving students in science classes. The primary instrument was an ESD-based LKPD guiding students to identify sustainability issues, design projects, conduct activities, monitor progress, and reflect on learning. Supporting instruments included an observation sheet to assess the implementation of PjBL syntax, a student response and engagement questionnaire, and project documentation. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis by calculating the percentage of PjBL implementation and student responses, which were then categorized based on predetermined criteria. In addition, students’ completed LKPD were analyzed descriptively to evaluate indicator achievement, conceptual understanding, and the quality of project planning and implementation. The results showed that PjBL implementation reached 82.4%, categorized as good to very good, and the LKPD effectively promoted active engagement and sustainability integration.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is an essential competence that elementary school students must possess to face the challenges of the 21st century. However, Indonesian students’ scientific literacy remains relatively low. One effort to improve scientific literacy is through the implementation of the Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create (RADEC) learning model. This study aimed to determine the effect of the RADEC learning model on fifth-grade students’ scientific literacy in ecosystem materials. This study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 30 fifth-grade elementary school students. Data were collected using a scientific literacy test administered before and after the implementation of the RADEC learning model. Data analysis techniques included normality tests, reliability tests, and paired sample t-tests using SPSS. The results showed an increase in students’ scientific literacy scores after the implementation of the RADEC learning model. The paired sample t-test results indicated a significance value of less than 0.05, indicating that the RADEC learning model had a significant effect on students’ scientific literacy in ecosystem learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify and describe the morphological characteristics of Selaginella species growing in the environment of Universitas Pendidikan Muhammadiyah (UNIMUDA) Sorong. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach conducted from March 17 to March 25, 2025, at several locations, namely the Rusunawa Building, Rectorate Building, and Khalid Bin Walid Field. The research objects included all Selaginella specimens found at the study sites. Data were collected through field surveys, direct observations, and documentation of morphological characteristics, including roots, stems, microphyll leaves, and sporophylls. Species identification was carried out by comparing observational findings with scientific literature, flora references, and plant identification key applications. Data analysis was conducted descriptively using a qualitative approach by classifying and explaining the observed morphological traits. The results revealed two species, namely Selaginella willdenowii, found in moist and shaded areas near the Rusunawa Building, and Selaginella kraussiana, growing on moist soils around the Rectorate Building and Khalid Bin Walid Field. The presence of these species indicates that the campus microclimate supports the growth of the genus Selaginella and has potential as a learning resource for fern plant biodiversity

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of a STEM-based teaching module  Project Based Learning (PjBL) through a project to build a Mini Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTAM) from used materials and to analyze students' learning experiences in science learning. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach with a descriptive study design conducted at SMPN 1 Cilengkrang. The research procedure included the stages of problem orientation, project planning, prototyping, testing, and reflection. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, documentation, and analysis of student projects. Data analysis was carried out using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, and its validity was tested through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results showed that the implementation of the STEM-PjBL teaching module took place systematically through five project stages. Project activities encouraged active student involvement, collaborative work, and the integration of elements of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students demonstrated a better understanding of the principles of converting water energy into electrical energy. The use of used materials increased students' creativity and environmental awareness. The questionnaire data showed a very positive response, with an average score above 4.2 and a percentage of agree/strongly agree reaching 83.3%-100%. The implementation of the STEM-PjBL teaching module through the hydropower project using recycled materials was able to create more contextual, meaningful, and student-centered science learning, and is worthy of being used as an innovative alternative in renewable energy learning in junior high schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of nutrient variation, particularly different sugar sources, on the kombucha fermentation process. Two treatments were used: granulated sugar and palm sugar, each 50 grams in a tea solution inoculated with SCOBY and starter. Fermentation was carried out for four days at room temperature with daily visual observations and periodic pH measurements. The results showed that palm sugar caused a faster pH decrease, from 5 to 4, indicating stronger acidification activity during the early fermentation phase. In contrast, granulated sugar maintained a stable pH at 4 but successfully formed a new SCOBY layer, suggesting that sucrose more effectively supports early-stage cellulose biosynthesis. Organoleptic analysis also revealed differences in taste, aroma, and color between the two treatments. Overall, nutrient variation influenced microbial metabolic pathways, with palm sugar being more effective in promoting acid production, while granulated sugar was more optimal for cellulose formation. This study demonstrates that the choice of nutrient source plays an important role in determining the final quality of kombucha.

Abstract

Teaching aids in science education serve as supporting media that help clarify students' understanding of science concepts through the presentation of concrete objects. The use of teaching aids can make the learning process more interesting and efficient. The purpose of this study was to examine the use of cardboard skeleton teaching aids (KETUKAR) in science learning for fourth-grade students at Mangli 01 Public Elementary School in Jember. The method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative method that used data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation using inductive data analysis techniques. The results of the study show that the use of teaching aids (KETUKAR) is effective in improving students' understanding because it helps them visualize abstract skeletal system concepts more concretely. The researcher suggests that future studies should refine teaching aids to make them more creative and dynamic.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berlandaskan pada tuntutan transformasi pendidikan di era Revolusi Industri Keempat, yang mendorong adopsi pendekatan pembelajaran mendalam. Namun, pengajaran IPAS di sekolah dasar masih didominasi oleh metode hafalan dengan sedikit peluang untuk eksplorasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis implementasi pembelajaran mendalam dalam pengajaran IPAS kelas empat di sebuah sekolah dasar Islam di Jakarta Timur, dengan penekanan khusus pada keselarasan antara perencanaan pembelajaran dan praktik kelas. Pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif digunakan, dengan data dikumpulkan melalui observasi kelas, wawancara, dan analisis dokumen yang melibatkan dua guru sebagai informan utama. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan NVivo 15 melalui teknik pengkodean selektif dan matriks. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa keberhasilan pembelajaran mendalam sangat bergantung pada kompetensi guru dan peran strategis mereka sebagai perancang pengalaman belajar yang bermakna. Penelitian ini berkontribusi dengan secara empiris mengungkapkan kesenjangan antara rencana pembelajaran (RPM) dan praktik kelas, yang mengakibatkan tujuan keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi (HOTS) tidak tercapai secara optimal karena dominasi media pembelajaran pasif dan aktivitas eksperimental yang terbatas. Temuan ini menekankan pentingnya konsistensi pedagogis guru yang didukung oleh ketersediaan fasilitas pembelajaran yang memadai.
