Abstract

Research shows that elementary school students' critical thinking skills are relatively low, due to the use of conventional teacher-centered learning models. This study aims to determine the effect of the Wayang Kartun media-assisted Problem Based Learning model on the critical thinking skills of fifth grade students. This study used a pre-experimental method with a one-group Pretest-Posttest design. The research subjects were 22 fifth-grade students at an elementary school in Purwakarta Regency, consisting of 14 girls and 8 boys. The research instrument consisted of six HOTS-based essay questions compiled based on the FRISCO critical thinking ability indicators. Data were collected through Pretest and Posttest, then analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, and Paired Sample t-Test. The results showed an increase in critical thinking skills, from an average of 74.91% to 83.41%. The Paired Sample t-Test produced a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000, confirming the significant effect of the use of the cartoon puppet-assisted Problem Based Learning model on students' critical thinking skills. These findings prove that the integration of the Problem Based Learning model with cartoon puppet media is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills, especially in science learning

Abstract

Primary school students' understanding of science concepts remains low due to teacher-centered learning and minimal use of supporting media. This condition indicates the need for a learning model that can increase active participation and facilitate meaningful inquiry activities. This study aims to determine the effect of the PhET Simulation-assisted Problem Based Learning model on the ability to understand science concepts in energy change material. This study used a quantitative method with a One Group Pretest Posttest Design involving 22 fourth-grade students at an elementary school in Purwakarta. The research instrument was a multiple-choice test based on seven concept comprehension indicators. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Shapiro Wilk normality test, Wilcoxon test, and N Gain calculation. The results showed an increase in conceptual understanding after the learning model was implemented, as indicated by an increase in the average pretest score to the average posttest score and an N Gain score of 0.73 in the high category. The Wilcoxon test confirmed a significant difference between the initial ability and the ability after the treatment. These findings confirm that PhET Simulation-assisted Problem Based Learning is effective in supporting science concept comprehension and has the potential to be a more interactive and meaningful learning alternative for elementary school students.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine the influence of the application of the nuswantara biosaka elicitor on the growth of spinach plant (Amaranthus tricolor). This research was conducted by comparing 4 treatment groups with varying biosaka doses, starting from group P0 (control), P1(5 ml), P2 (10 ml), and P3(15 ml). The type and design is an experiment using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), carried out from August to September 2025, at Jl.S. Mambramo, Matalamagi Village, North Sorong, Sorong City. The samples used were 4 polybags of spinach plants per treatment, the data analysis technique used descriptive statistic, followed by One-Way ANOVA test and Tukey test at the 5% level. The results of the research show that the administration of the nuswantara biosaka elicitor has a significant effect on increasing plant height and stem diameter, with the results owned by biosaka with a dose of 10 ml (P2), where as the administration of biosaka has no significant effect on the number of leaves and fresh weight of spinach plants, but biosaka with a dose of 10 mil still gives the heighest results with a comparison that is not large enough compared to other treatments. Likewise with the root length parameter where the best results are owned by treatment without biosaka or control.

Abstract

Environmental problems in the form of water puddles still frequently occur in school environments, especially due to climate change that causes uncertainty in rainfall patterns. One effort that can be implemented to address this problem is the application of biopore infiltration holes. This study aims to determine the implementation of biopore infiltration holes and their impact on reducing water puddles and increasing groundwater infiltration in the school environment. This study used a qualitative method conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Salatiga from October to November 2025. The object of the study was the implementation of biopore infiltration holes in the school environment, while the research participants consisted of two teachers responsible for managing the biopore system. The research instruments included interview guidelines and observation sheets. Data collection was carried out through interviews, field observations, and secondary data in the form of rainfall reports of Salatiga City over the last five years. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis techniques through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of biopore infiltration holes at SMP Negeri 2 Salatiga provided benefits in reducing water puddles and increasing groundwater infiltration, although the effectiveness was not yet optimal in several areas dominated by impermeable surfaces. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the number of biopore holes, provide more even distribution, and integrate them with the school drainage system so that the implementation of biopores can work more optimally.

Abstract

This study aims to foster students’ environmental awareness, particularly regarding the clean water crisis, through the application of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model based on an experiment to construct a simple water filter. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects were 42 fifth-grade students at SDN 184 Pekanbaru. The research procedure was carried out through the stages of needs analysis, instructional design, development of PBL-based teaching materials, implementation of group-based experimental activities, and evaluation of learning outcomes. Data collection was conducted through observation, cognitive tests, and documentation of activities, then analyzed descriptively to describe students’ achievements in scientific understanding and the development of their environmental awareness. In the experiment, students were divided into five groups to design and build water filters using natural materials such as activated charcoal, sand, cotton, and gravel. The results showed that the group that placed activated charcoal as the first layer produced the clearest and most odorless water, proving that the order of the materials significantly affects filtration quality. In the cognitive test, 55% of students received a “Good” grade and 45% received a “Satisfactory” grade. This study concluded that the application of PBL through contextual experiments effectively fosters students’ environmental awareness, while also encouraging the development of scientific curiosity, critical thinking skills, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility for environmental sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a natural hand soap as an alternative to conventional soaps that commonly contain synthetic surfactants such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), which may cause skin irritation and environmental pollution. The product was developed using natural biosurfactants derived from lerak fruit (Sapindus rarak), aloe vera gel, and coffee and jasmine essential oils as natural fragrances. The research employed a Research and Development (RD) method using the 4D development model, consisting of Define, Design, Development, and Dissemination stages. The production process included the extraction of lerak saponins, preparation of aloe vera gel, formulation of the liquid soap mixture, and the addition of essential oils to improve aroma and sensory quality. Product evaluation was conducted through expert validation, user response questionnaires, and product stability observations, which were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed that lerak saponins were effective as natural biosurfactants with cleansing and antibacterial properties, while aloe vera functioned as a moisturizer that helped reduce skin dryness. The addition of coffee and jasmine essential oils enhanced the fragrance and provided a mild relaxing effect. The resulting product was considered safe, environmentally friendly, economical, and suitable for use as a project-based science learning medium to support clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) and entrepreneurship development in schools.
