Abstract

Low birth weight (LBW) contributes about 60-80% of neonatal mortality. Factors such as gestational age and maternal nutritional status are among of the causes of LBW. Reducing infant mortality rate (IMR) is an essential indicator of a country’s success in improving public health. The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence of LBW based on gestational age and maternal nutritional status at PKU Muhammadiyah Tegal hospital. This study was analytical and retrospective approach. The study population includes all mothers who gave birth at PKU Muhammadiyah Tegal hospital in July 2023 on 41 respondents. Data collection involves secondary data and statistically analyzed using chi square test. Result of the study found that from the respondents, 21 (51.2%) experienced preterm births (<37 weeks), while 22 (53.7%) were diagnosed with Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) with Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) < 23.5 cm. LBW occurred in 28 cases (68.3%). Chi-square analysis revealed a significant correlation between gestational age and LBW at Muhammadiyah Tegal PKU Hospital (p-value=0.010, OR: 7.773). Similarly, LBW occurrence based on maternal nutritional status also exhibited a significant relationship (p-value=0.004, OR: 15.000), indicating that pregnant women with CED have a 15 times higher risk of experiencing LBW compared to non-CED pregnant women

Abstract

Gastritis or commonly known as "ulcer" or heartburn is inflammation of the stomach wall, especially the mucous membrane of the stomach. Gastritis is often caused by an incorrect diet. Irregular eating patterns, the stomach becomes sensitive when stomach acid increases. Excessive production of HCI (stomach acid) can cause friction on the walls of the stomach and small intestine, resulting in pain called gastric ulcers. The friction will be worse if the stomach is empty due to irregular eating which will ultimately result in inflammation in the stomach. The main aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the eating patterns of female students and the incidence of gastritis at the Safinatunnaja Islamic boarding school. The approach used in this research is quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study were all female students at the Safinatunnaja Islamic boarding school. The sampling technique used a purposive sampling technique of 92 respondents. The time for conducting the research was 24 September – 7 October 2023. The analysis carried out was the chi-square test. The results of the research showed that 58 respondents (63.0%) had unhealthy eating patterns and gastritis compared to 9 respondents (9.8%) with healthy eating patterns. Chi-square test analysis produces a p-value of 0.002 (with α<0.05)

Abstract

Early initiation of breastfeeding (IMD) involves breastfeeding immediately after birth, usually within 30 minutes to one hour. Babies are given the opportunity to initiate breastfeeding immediately after birth by allowing skin-to-skin contact with the mother for at least an hour or more, until the first feeding is complete. Several factors that affect the implementation of IMD are knowledge factors, maternal attitudes and family support. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes of postpartum mothers and family support with the implementation of early breastfeeding initiation at UPTD BLUD Puskesmas Praya Central Lombok. The type of research is quantitative, descriptive analytical method, with a cross-sectional research design. The study population of all mothers who gave birth was normal at the time of the study. The research sample was determined by the Total Sampling technique. The number of samples was 36 people. Data collection using questionnaires.  The results of the study showed that the majority of respondents had good knowledge as many as 35 people (97.22%), 34 people (94.40%) agreed and 32 people (89.90%) had family support. The analysis of the research data using the Rank Spearman test, the results were knowledge p (0.011) < α (0.05), attitude p (0.000) < α (0.05) and family support p (0.027) < α (0.05). The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between knowledge, attitudes of postpartum mothers and family support with the implementation of Early Breastfeeding Initiation at UPTD BLUD Puskesmas Praya.  The results of this study are expected to increase knowledge, attitudes and family support regarding the importance of IMD for the success of exclusive breastfeeding and the growth and development of children

Abstract

Deficiency of several important nutrients, such as folic acid, iron, and vitamin B12, often leads to anemia in pregnant women. These nutrients are essential for the process of blood formation and maintaining the health of red blood cells. Pregnant women with anemia have a mortality risk up to 3.6 times higher than non-anemic pregnant women. Iron (Fe) deficiency, which is necessary for hemoglobin formation, is the primary cause of anemia among pregnant women in Indonesia. There are various ways to address and prevent anemia in pregnant women, including pharmacological methods such as administering iron supplements or oral iron tablets of 60 mg daily, and non-pharmacological methods such as consuming high-protein sources from both plant and animal origins. Mung beans are one of the richest legumes in iron.Based on the research results on the effect of green bean consumption on the incidence of anemia in pregnant women at Sidorekso Health Center, it was found that before the consumption of green beans and iron tablets, there were 11 respondents (73.3%) with mild anemia and 4 respondents (26.7%) with moderate anemia. After the consumption of green beans and iron tablets, there were 3 respondents (20.0%) with mild anemia and 12 respondents (80.0%) who were normal. The research results also show the distribution of anemia incidence in pregnant women at Sidorekso Health Center before the administration of iron tablets, where there were 6 respondents (40.0%) with mild anemia and 9 respondents (60.0%) with moderate anemia. Meanwhile, after the administration of iron tablets, there were 10 respondents (66.7%) with mild anemia and 5 respondents (33.3%) who were normal

Abstract

Fetal movement monitoring is a vital indicator of fetal health in uterus. Low knowledge among pregnant women, especially primigravida, regarding fetal movement counting can increase the risk of pregnancy complications and fetal death. This study aimed to determine the effect of counseling using leaflet media on knowledge of fetal movement counting among primigravida at PMB Fattum Tamim Syamlan Krapyak Pekalongan. This study utilized a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach and a control group. A total of 70 second-trimester primigravida mothers were selected through purposive sampling and divided into an intervention group (n=35) and a control group (n=35). The intervention group received counseling using leaflet media about fetal movement counting, while the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The findings revealed a significant increase in knowledge in the intervention group, from 17.1% in the good category during pre-test to 80.0% during post-test. Meanwhile, the control group remained predominantly in the poor knowledge category (68.6%). The Chi-Square statistical test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of counseling using leaflet media on fetal movement counting knowledge among primigravida. Counseling using leaflet media is proven effective in improving primigravida knowledge about fetal movement counting. Leaflets are recommended as an educational medium in antenatal care services to increase pregnant women's awareness of fetal well-being monitoring
