Abstract

This study investigates the gendered deployment of impoliteness strategies in adolescent discourse as portrayed in the action-comedy film Barely Lethal. Anchored in Culpeper’s (2011) impoliteness typology and informed by feminist and sociolinguistic theories of discourse and identity, the research adopts a socio-pragmatic lens to explore how teenage characters of different genders enact verbal aggression, negotiate social power, and construct identities. Using qualitative content analysis, the study analyzes 15 transcribed utterances across key scenes. Results indicate that negative impoliteness is the most frequently used strategy, particularly among female characters. Sarcasm, mock politeness, and bald-on-record expressions are also salient, with notable gendered differences in distribution and function. Female characters exhibit more strategic, relational, and performative use of impoliteness, while male characters rely predominantly on direct, hierarchical speech acts. These findings underscore how impoliteness functions as a gendered linguistic resource within mediated adolescent interaction. The study offers empirical and theoretical contributions to gendered discourse analysis, youth pragmatics, and media sociolinguistics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Javanese language literacy in the formation of polite character among students at KB Bina Insani Dampit. The declining use of the Javanese language and the weakening of polite character among early childhood learners serve as the background for this research. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research design with teachers, students, and parents as the research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that Javanese language literacy is implemented through the habitual use of Javanese krama in daily activities, as well as the use of Javanese culture-based learning media such as traditional children's songs (tembang dolanan), folklore, and traditional games. The process of developing polite character occurs through teachers’ role modeling, the habituation of polite expressions such as “matur nuwun” (thank you), “nyuwun tulung” (please help), and “nyuwun pangapunten” (sorry), and the integration of Javanese etiquette values (unggah-ungguh) in the learning process. The findings also reveal that teachers integrate the traditional game “Ombak-Ombak Banyu” as a cooling-down activity after exercise, which simultaneously functions as a medium for Javanese language literacy through a kinesthetic-musical approach. This approach differs from conventional Javanese language learning, which tends to rely on lectures and vocabulary memorization. Supporting factors include teachers’ commitment, support from the school environment, and collaboration with parents, while the inhibiting factors include children’s limited mastery of krama vocabulary and the dominance of Indonesian language use at home.

Abstract

Patience is an important aspect of early childhood social-emotional development, as it plays a role in children's ability to regulate emotions, wait for their turn, and complete tasks. Initial observations at Al Azhar Playgroup (KB Al Azhar) indicated that most children aged 4–5 years still demonstrated impatient behavior during learning activities. This study aims to improve early childhood patience through the implementation of a mindfulness approach using storytelling media. The research employed a qualitative approach with a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, consisting of the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 15 children aged 4–5 years at KB Al Azhar. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis used descriptive qualitative analysis techniques. The results showed that the implementation of the mindfulness approach through storytelling media significantly improved children's patience. Children became more able to wait for their turn, regulate their emotions, follow rules, and complete activities calmly. Therefore, the mindfulness approach through storytelling media is effective as a learning strategy to develop patience in early childhood.

Abstract

Islamic education management faces multidimensional challenges in the era of globalization, technological disruption, and increasing social complexity. The fragmentation of knowledge, the dominance of administrative approaches, and the weak integration of spiritual values with managerial practices constitute major obstacles to the development of Islamic educational institutions. This study aimed to reconstruct the paradigm of Islamic education management through an integral–interconnected approach within the perspective of visionary leadership using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The review examines scholarly articles and academic books published between 1993 and 2025, retrieved from the Google Scholar, DOAJ, and Garuda databases. The literature selection process followed the PRISMA flow, including identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion stages. Data were analyzed through thematic coding and conceptual synthesis. The findings indicate that reconstructing Islamic education management requires epistemological integration between religious knowledge and modern science, the integration of managerial systems, and the strengthening of organizational culture grounded in tauhid values. Visionary leadership functions as a catalyst for transformation through the development of an integrative vision, alignment of organizational strategy, and continuous innovation. This study proposes a conceptual model for reconstructing Islamic education management based on an integral–interconnected framework that emphasizes the integration of values, systems, and transformational leadership.
