Abstract

This article examines strategies for cultivating the values of religious moderation at SDNU Kota Metro as an effort to foster inclusive student character. The main problem addressed in this study is the absence of a comprehensive operational model at the elementary school level, despite the widely acknowledged theoretical urgency of religious moderation. This research aims to explore how curricular, cultural–behavioral, and institutional policy strategies are implemented, as well as their effectiveness in shaping inclusive character. Drawing on theories of character education, religious moderation, and critical pedagogy, the study employs participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal the development of an Integrated Three-Dimensional Strategy Model: (1) a curricular dimension through the teaching of Ahlussunnah wal Jama’ah (ASWAJA) as the theological foundation of moderation; (2) a cultural–behavioral dimension through the practices of 5S (Senyum, Sapa, Salam, Sopan, Santun) and Jum’at Beramal as internalization of empathetic values; and (3) an adaptive-institutional dimension through digital literacy initiatives and art festivals that create inclusive collaborative spaces. The study concludes that religious moderation can be effectively cultivated when it becomes an institutional culture rather than merely instructional content. It recommends strengthening behavior-based evaluation systems, conducting routine critical reflection, and enhancing school–family–community collaboration to ensure the sustainability of inclusive character development

Abstract

Qur’anic exegesis has been practiced since the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and has continued to develop across different historical periods, including the era of the Prophet and his Companions, the era of the Tābiʿīn, and the modern period. This study aims to examine the historical development of tafsir across these three major periods. The research employs a library-based method, gathering relevant information and data from various sources such as books, scholarly notes, and research articles. The findings reveal that during the Prophet’s lifetime, Qur’anic interpretation continued to evolve, eventually giving rise to diverse exegetical schools and methods. In the period of the Companions, the Qur’an was interpreted primarily through riwāyah (transmitted reports), and at times through ijtihād when no direct explanation from the Prophet was available. The era of the Tābiʿīn marks further development of tafsir, characterized by the emergence of interpretive traditions centered in Makkah, Madinah, and Iraq. This study contributes to Qur’anic studies by providing a structured historical mapping of tafsir evolution, clarifying the foundational epistemological shifts across periods, and offering a comparative framework that can support future research on the continuity and transformation of exegetical methods from classical to modern times.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the urgency of Hadith research in the digital era, a period that presents new challenges to the validity and transmission of prophetic traditions. Employing a library research approach, the study analyzes developments in Hadith criticism methodology, the dynamics of fabricated or weak Hadith circulating on social media, and the contribution of Hadith scholarship to strengthening religious understanding in modern society. The findings indicate that low Hadith literacy among the public contributes to the increasing use of unverified narrations, highlighting the need for enhanced educational strategies and religious moderation. The study also emphasizes that the modernization of Hadith methodology must uphold classical epistemological principles while integrating digital technology, including the development of AI-based Hadith research databases. This research contributes theoretically to enriching the literature on Hadith studies and proposes directions for multidisciplinary research aimed at improving religious literacy and mitigating the misuse of Hadith. Its limitation lies in the absence of empirical field verification; thus, future studies are recommended to measure the social impact of unauthentic Hadith circulation on the religious practices of Indonesian Muslim communities

Abstract

Qur’anic exegesis is a vital instrument for understanding divine messages in a profound and applicable manner. One distinctive contribution to the landscape of contemporary Indonesian tafsir is Tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Azim authored by KH. Bahrul Anam. This study aims to explore the historical background of its writing, the methodological approaches employed, and the exegetical characteristics that define Bahrul Anam’s work, particularly in bridging classical Islamic scholarship with the needs of contemporary Muslim society. Using a qualitative library-research approach, this study closely examines the content of the tafsir alongside relevant supporting works, including references from both classical and modern scholars. The findings indicate that Tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Azim adopts a thematic–contextual approach while remaining firmly grounded in both tafsir bi al-ma’tsur and tafsir bi al-ra’yi. Bahrul Anam presents his interpretations in an accessible and down-to-earth language, making them easily understood by general readers. The work highlights social issues such as justice, humanity, family, education, religious moderation, and nationalism. Consequently, this tafsir serves not only as an interpretation of the sacred text but also as an instrument of moral, social, and national transformation that remains highly relevant amid the evolving dynamics of Indonesian Muslim society.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, Islamic educational institutions face significant challenges in balancing academic competence with the development of religious character. Islamic Religious Education (PAI) serves not only as a vehicle for knowledge transmission but also for the internalization of moral and spiritual values. This study aims to analyze the concept of quality culture from an Islamic educational perspective, explore its implementation strategies in PAI instruction, and examine its impact on the broader educational ecosystem. Using a qualitative library research approach, this study reviews literature on integrated quality management and Islamic educational principles. The findings reveal that a quality culture in PAI is grounded in the principles of ihsan (excellence in character) and anti-corruption values. Its implementation involves adaptive curriculum design, technology-based learning innovations that maintain valuable traditions (al-muḥāfazhah ‘ala al-qadīm al-ṣāliḥ), and the role of teachers as uswah ḥasanah (exemplary models). Establishing a quality culture fosters a religiously oriented academic environment, strengthens teacher professionalism, and cultivates students who embody both intellectual capability and spiritual integrity. The synergy between schools, families, and communities emerges as a critical factor in sustaining an effective quality culture.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) analyze the concepts of knowledge (‘ilm) and jurisprudence (fiqh) in Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim by Burhān al-Islām al-Zarnūjī; (2) identify the virtues of knowledge and the categories of knowledge that, according to al-Zarnūjī, should be pursued; and (3) examine the relevance of al-Zarnūjī’s concepts of knowledge and jurisprudence to contemporary Islamic education. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using content analysis of the primary text Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim (Marwān al-Qabbānī edition), supported by secondary sources including books on Islamic education, scholarly journals, works on the history of Islamic thought, and previous studies on al-Zarnūjī as well as classical Islamic epistemology and pedagogy. Data were collected through a comprehensive literature review. The findings indicate that al-Zarnūjī defines knowledge as the disclosure of true reality, while fiqh is understood as knowledge of a Muslim’s moral rights and obligations. He classifies knowledge into obligatory (farḍ ‘ayn and farḍ kifāyah), recommended (sunnah), and knowledge that should be avoided. Al-Zarnūjī emphasizes the importance of ‘ilm al-ḥāl, namely practical knowledge required in daily life, including matters of faith, worship, professional competence, health, and spiritual refinement of the heart. He discourages the study of misleading sciences such as astrology, while permitting and encouraging beneficial disciplines such as astronomy. This study concludes that al-Zarnūjī’s educational thought remains highly relevant to the development of contemporary Islamic education, particularly in curriculum design that integrates religious knowledge, professional skills, and character formation. His concepts contribute significantly to strengthening the epistemological and ethical foundations of Islamic education in the modern era.

Abstract

Radicalism and intolerance represent serious challenges to national cohesion and religious harmony, particularly within school environments where the character and worldview of younger generations are shaped. This study examines the role of Islamic educational strategies in preventing and countering radical and intolerant tendencies in school settings. Employing a qualitative approach through a comprehensive literature review, the study analyzes scholarly works related to Islamic education, radicalism, and intolerance. The findings reveal that Islamic education plays a strategic role in fostering moderate, tolerant, and inclusive attitudes by strengthening the principle of rahmatan lil ‘alamin, implementing contextual and value-based learning, promoting teachers as moral role models, and integrating Islamic values holistically into the curriculum. In addition, effective collaboration among schools, families, and communities is crucial in creating a safe and supportive educational environment free from extremist influences. This study contributes to the existing literature by providing a conceptual framework for integrating Islamic educational values as a preventive mechanism against radicalism and intolerance in schools, offering practical insights for educators and policymakers in promoting peaceful and harmonious social coexistence. Overall, Islamic education, when strategically implemented, can serve as a strong foundation for safeguarding students from radical ideologies while nurturing a culture of peace and mutual respect in society.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a learning methodology for Islamic Religious Education (PAI) based on the principles of Information Processing Theory. The research is motivated by the need to enhance the effectiveness of PAI instruction so that it aligns more closely with learners’ cognitive characteristics, particularly in processing, storing, and interpreting religious information. Using a library research approach, this study analyzes literature on information processing theory, instructional methodologies, and PAI learning practices. The findings indicate that applying Information Processing Theory in PAI learning can be achieved through strategies such as activating prior knowledge, organizing instructional content using concept maps, utilizing media that support both visual and verbal memory, and assessing students’ thinking processes through elaboration and reflection techniques. The proposed methodology has been shown to strengthen conceptual understanding, improve long-term retention, and enhance students’ critical thinking skills. The study concludes that integrating Information Processing Theory into PAI instruction offers a relevant and effective methodological alternative for improving the quality of PAI learning across educational levels.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Islamic values through dzikir fida’ in fostering the religious character of the congregation at Mushola Darussalamah, Dusun V, Reno Basuki Village, Rumbia District, Central Lampung Regency. Dzikir fida’, as a collective spiritual practice, is identified as an effective medium for strengthening faith, moral conduct, and daily behavior grounded in Islamic values, including i‘tiqādiyyah (creedal), khuluqiyyah (moral), and ‘amaliyyah (practical) dimensions. The research employs a qualitative field approach using purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured interviews, participant observation, and documentation involving dzikir leaders, congregation members, and community figures, with data validity ensured through source triangulation. The findings reveal that dzikir fida’, conducted congregationally every Wednesday night until Thursday with a structured sequence of supplications and the recitation of “lā ilāha illā Allāh” 70,000 times, significantly contributes to the development of religious character. Its impact is reflected in enhanced inner peace, strengthened social solidarity, and increased piety. The influence of the practice is evident across social aspects (reinforcing ukhuwah islāmiyyah), psychological aspects (reducing stress and fostering gratitude), and religious aspects (strengthening faith and discipline in worship). Nevertheless, challenges remain, particularly the limited participation of younger generations, which calls for more intensive outreach and promotion. This study contributes to the discourse on character education rooted in spiritual and cultural traditions and offers recommendations for expanding dzikir fida’ as a moral and spiritual intervention within society.
