Abstract

This community service program was designed to empower science teachers in Keerom Regency, Papua, through the development of audio comics based on local ethnography, utilizing Canva and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as digital tools. The program specifically aimed to integrate Papuan cultural narratives into science learning, thereby creating contextualized and culturally relevant instructional materials for students. A total of 35 science teachers, organized under the MGMP IPA (Subject Teachers Forum), participated in the program. The method employed a participatory workshop model, followed by sustained coaching and evaluation. Teachers were trained to design digital comics using Canva, generate illustrations and voice-overs with AI tools, and embed local cultural stories such as traditional hunting, forest management, and local folklore into science topics like ecosystems, energy cycles, and adaptation of living organisms. The process included pre-test and post-test assessments, hands-on production of audio comics, classroom trials, and the establishment of a digital repository for documentation and dissemination. The findings revealed a 33% increase in teachers’ digital literacy across three assessed domains: mastery of Canva and AI tools, integration of culture into science content, and pedagogical competence in developing audio comics. Five audio comics were fully developed and ready for classroom use, while 28 were in progress. Classroom trials demonstrated enhanced student engagement, improved comprehension of abstract science concepts, and stronger connections between cultural knowledge and scientific understanding. Overall, this program demonstrates that combining digital technologies with local ethnography is an effective approach to empower teachers, enrich science learning, and promote educational innovation in underserved regions such as Papua.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a strategic role in shaping the character and morals of the nation's generation, particularly in facing the challenges of globalization, technological development, and the social ethical crisis. Islamic Religious Education reform is not merely a technical change to the curriculum or learning methods, but rather a paradigm shift in understanding and reinterpreting the essence of religious education. This article aims to examine the new direction of Islamic Religious Education for the future, emphasizing six main pillars of reform: religious moderation, integration of knowledge, a critical and reflective approach, value and character formation, utilization of digital technology, and strengthening collaboration between schools, families, and the community. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive approach through a literature review of academic books, scientific journals, and national education policies. The results indicate that the new direction of Islamic Religious Education must be inclusive, contextual, and adaptive to current developments. A moderate, integrative, and character-based approach is considered crucial in addressing the challenges of radicalism, the dichotomy of knowledge, and moral degradation. Furthermore, the use of big data and artificial intelligence also has the potential to strengthen the personalization of Islamic Religious Education learning more effectively. Future Islamic Religious Education reforms are not only required to produce students who are religiously devout, but also capable of becoming agents of social change who are tolerant, intelligent, and virtuous.

Abstract

The phenomenon of globalization and the rise of modern lifestyles have significantly influenced consumption patterns, including food choices that often overlook the aspect of halal compliance. This study aims to systematically examine the relationship between halal food consumption and moral character development by integrating Imam Al-Ghazali’s perspective with contemporary scientific findings. The research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework. The reviewed articles include both nationally accredited (Sinta) journals and internationally indexed (Scopus) publications. The findings indicate that consuming halal food holds not only religious value but also positive psychological and social implications. Hence, this study emphasizes the importance of halal consumption as a foundation for moral development and highlights the convergence between Islamic spiritual teachings and modern scientific evidence. This research contributes to the growing body of interdisciplinary studies connecting Islamic ethical thought with contemporary behavioral science. It offers a conceptual framework linking halal dietary practices to moral formation and provides theoretical insights for future empirical studies on the spiritual and psychological dimensions of halal consumption.

Abstract

Grounded in constructivist and engagement theories, the scientific approach to language learning emphasizes observation, inquiry, and application as central processes that foster deep comprehension and active participation. Within the context of English language reading, this study sought to investigate the extent to which the scientific approach enhances students’ reading comprehension and engagement. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the research involved an experimental group that received instruction through the scientific approach and a control group that received conventional instruction. Data was collected through pre- and post-tests, a structured engagement questionnaire, and semi-structured interviews, which were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings revealed that while the between-group differences were not statistically significant, students in the experimental group demonstrated notable improvements in reading comprehension scores, rising from a mean of 76.17 to 84.83. Moreover, nearly 70% of participants reported high to highest engagement, supported by qualitative evidence of increased motivation, active participation, and strategy use. These results underscore the pedagogical value of integrating scientific approach principles into English instruction to enhance comprehension and sustain learner engagement, though further large-scale and longitudinal studies are recommended.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and develop Islamic Education (PAI) learning media based on the Open-Ended Approach integrated with the Think Pair Share (TPS) model to enhance students’ creative thinking skills. Creative thinking is one of the essential 21st-century skills, yet it remains relatively low in Indonesia. According to The Global Creativity Index 2015, Indonesia ranks 115th out of 139 countries. This low performance is influenced by non-innovative teaching methods, unsupportive learning environments, limited teacher competence, and suboptimal use of technology. Vildan Celik, a global education practitioner, emphasizes that teachers’ lack of ability to design innovative learning experiences significantly hampers the development of student creativity. The integration of the Open-Ended Approach with TPS is expected to foster students’ creativity by providing flexible thinking opportunities, encouraging active discussion, and promoting idea sharing in problem-solving. This qualitative research employed a development design involving expert validation and student response analysis. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with PAI lecturers and students concerning the developed learning materials and instructional videos. The findings reveal that integrating the Open-Ended Approach with TPS in Islamic Education learning media effectively stimulates creative thinking through: (1) contextual learning materials that encourage multiple solutions, (2) interactive video elements that foster critical thinking, and (3) collaborative learning structures that facilitate knowledge construction. Expert validation confirmed that the materials met fundamental criteria with suggestions for contextual improvement. Student responses indicated positive engagement with multimedia elements and collaborative learning approaches.

Abstract

The rapid development of electric vehicle (EV) technology has created an urgent need for vocational students to master the concepts and practical knowledge of electric power systems in automotive applications. However, the lack of appropriate learning media and limited access to real EV components have made it difficult for students to understand the relationship between theoretical knowledge and its practical application. This study aims to implement an Electric Vehicle Kit (EV-KIT) as an innovative learning medium to improve students’ understanding of electric vehicle components and working systems in the Pendidikan Vokasional Teknologi Otomotif (PVTO) Program at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. The research used a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, consisting of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The product was validated by three experts and tested through two trials involving 6 students in a limited trial and 19 students in an expanded implementation. Data were collected using observation sheets, questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test instruments, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired sample t-test. The validation results showed that the EV-KIT achieved a feasibility level of 88.4%, categorized as “very feasible.” The average N-Gain score of 0.65 indicated a moderate to high improvement in students’ knowledge of EV components and their functions. Furthermore, students’ responses reached 86.7%, categorized as “very good,” showing that the EV-KIT is practical, safe, and effective in supporting active and project-based learning. The implementation of EV-KIT not only improved students’ conceptual understanding but also enhanced their motivation and readiness to face the transition toward electric vehicle technology in the automotive industry. Abstract

Education in the 21st century emphasizes not only cognitive skills but also the holistic development of character. This study explores the philosophy of Islamic humanistic education as a strategic approach to strengthening students’ character in Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs). Islamic humanistic philosophy promotes the comprehensive development of human potential by positioning students as active, independent, and responsible agents of learning, while remaining firmly rooted in the values of the Qur’an and Sunnah. Employing a qualitative-descriptive method through a literature review, this study reveals that the implementation of Islamic humanistic principles in MTs can reinforce essential values such as religiosity, empathy, discipline, responsibility, and integrity. Consequently, this approach contributes to nurturing Muslim generations who are adaptive, morally grounded, and well-prepared to face the complex global challenges of the 21st century. This study contributes to the discourse on character education by integrating Islamic humanistic philosophy into contemporary educational frameworks, offering a conceptual model that can guide educators and policymakers in designing value-based learning environments within Islamic schools.
