Abstract

Islamic religious education plays a crucial role in shaping students’ character, particularly when introduced at an early age, a developmental stage in which children learn by observing and imitating those around them. This study employs a qualitative research method, focusing on descriptive analysis of written sources. The primary approach used is library research, involving the review, examination, and interpretation of books and scholarly writings relevant to Islamic character formation in educational settings. The findings indicate that character development aligned with Islamic values—such as religiosity, honesty, discipline, independence, and responsibility—is essential for preparing students to become individuals who contribute positively to society, the nation, and the state. The study reveals that instilling Islamic character values early in a child’s life significantly influences their moral, behavioral, and social development in later years. Early exposure provides a strong foundation for internalizing ethical principles, promoting consistent moral behavior, and supporting the formation of a well-rounded Muslim identity. Overall, this research underscores the importance of early Islamic character education as a transformative effort that impacts students’ long-term development. It highlights the need for structured, value-based educational practices to cultivate future generations with strong moral integrity and social responsibility.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of students’ engagement on learning comprehension in the Maritime Insurance course at Politeknik Pelayaran Sumatera Barat. Motivated by concerns about vocational learning effectiveness and graduates’ professional readiness, the study’s primary objective was to test whether students’ engagement affects learning comprehension and to quantify the magnitude of this effect. A quantitative, comparative design was employed using an independent-samples t-test to compare two groups defined by engagement level. The population comprised 153 students enrolled in the Marine Transportation program for the 2025/2026 academic year; samples were selected via quota-based random sampling, yielding two groups of 103 respondents each. The t-test results showed t-calculated = 24.578 versus t-critical = 1.66 with p < 0.05, leading to acceptance of the hypothesis that students’ engagement significantly influences learning comprehension. Effect-size analysis produced Cohen’s d = 3.43, indicating a very large practical effect and substantial mean differences between groups with differing engagement levels. These findings underscore the importance of active learning strategies and interventions that enhance behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement to strengthen conceptual mastery and workplace readiness in maritime contexts; practical implications include integrating claims simulations, authentic tasks, and targeted formative feedback. The study recommends future research employing objective outcome measures and longitudinal or experimental designs to improve generalizability and clarify causal mechanisms.

Abstract

This study addresses persistent waste-management challenges in coastal urban areas by optimizing the performance of waste-processing equipment at the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle (TPS3R) facility in Pariaman City. It was conducted through a Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM)–based repair and preventive maintenance program. The intervention combined field observation, identification of critical components, operator technical training, and the implementation of a structured maintenance schedule adapted to local operational conditions. Implementation involved collaboration among TPS3R management, local community members, and technical staff from Politeknik Pelayaran Sumatera Barat. Data were collected through direct observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of maintenance activities. Post-intervention evaluation demonstrated substantive gains in machine processing efficiency, up to an 80% improvement relative to baseline and a marked reduction in breakdown frequency. Operators showed measurable increases in technical competence and consistent adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safe and effective machine operation. The findings underscore the value of vocational higher-education–community partnerships for technology adaptation, capacity building, and fostering a maintenance culture that supports sustainable urban waste systems. The program represents a scalable, replicable model for similar coastal contexts and contributes to Sustainable Development Goals 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of risk management to improve maritime safety at Teluk Bayur Port, aiming to (1) analyze risk management practices and (2) identify principal risk factors. A descriptive case-study design with supporting quantitative analysis was applied; data were collected by field observation, questionnaires (n = 90, purposive sampling) and documentation; analyses included descriptive percentages, simple regression, SWOT and risk assessment. Results show high awareness of risk management (87.7%) but a significant training gap (53.8% never trained). The main risk factor is adverse weather (82.7%), followed by inadequate infrastructure and human error. Quantitative analysis indicates a positive and significant effect of risk management implementation on maritime safety (regression coefficient b = 0.432; r = 0.860; R² = 0.739; p = 0.000), meaning 73.9% of safety variance is explained by implementation. Mitigation measures involve digital integration, training, and emergency procedures. Conclusion: risk management at Teluk Bayur is underway but not fully optimal or integrated; recommendations include regular training and simulations, infrastructure and navigation equipment modernization, strengthened inter-agency coordination, and data-driven risk management to shift from reactive to predictive and preventive safety practices.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of character education through the tahfidz Al-Qur’an program at SMP IT Bina Insani Metro Utara and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors that influence its execution. Character education is understood as a systematic effort to cultivate students who are not only intellectually capable but also possess noble character and strong moral values. The tahfidz program serves as a strategic medium for instilling religious values, honesty, discipline, hard work, creativity, environmental awareness, and responsibility. Through teacher exemplification, school regulations, and the habituation of worship and daily positive activities carried out consistently, students demonstrate significant improvement in spiritual development, daily behavior, and learning attitudes. The findings indicate that the success of the tahfidz program is supported by several factors, including strong family involvement, students’ internal motivation, and teachers’ competence in guiding memorization. However, the study also identifies inhibiting factors such as limited parental engagement in monitoring memorization progress, varied teacher understanding of character value implementation, and shortages in qualified tahfidz instructors. This study concludes that synergy among schools, teachers, and families is essential to optimize the effectiveness of character education through tahfidz Al-Qur’an. Strengthening collaboration and enhancing teacher competencies will enable the tahfidz program to function more comprehensively as an instrument for shaping students' character.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of educational philosophy into the development of Islamic education practices in the modern era, characterized by rapid social, cultural, and technological change. Islamic education is not only oriented toward the transmission of knowledge but also toward the formation of holistic character and morality. In the face of globalization and digitalization, Islamic education must remain grounded in the core values of faith and ethics while adapting to the needs of contemporary learners. Employing a qualitative approach with a descriptive–analytical method, this study draws on literature from major educational philosophies—Perennialism, Progressivism, Constructivism, Reconstructionism, Idealism, and Realism—as well as key Islamic educational thinkers. The findings reveal that Islamic education benefits from integrating the timeless values emphasized by Perennialism and Idealism with the progressive, learner-centered, and contextual approaches of Progressivism, Constructivism, and Reconstructionism. Such integration strengthens the spiritual, intellectual, and life-skill dimensions of learners while fostering critical, creative, and adaptive dispositions in navigating societal change. Consequently, Islamic education serves a dual function: preserving its rich scholarly tradition rooted in Islamic teachings and acting as a transformative force that remains relevant, solution-oriented, and competitive in the global era.

Abstract

The integration of the Salaf tradition, which adheres firmly to the Qur'an, Sunnah, and the understanding of the best generation of the ummah (as-Salaf as-Shalih), with the demands of modernity is both a challenge and a necessity in the world of contemporary Islamic education. This study aims to analyze strategies that can be implemented by Islamic educational institutions in harmoniously combining these two poles. The research method used is library research with a philosophical and pedagogical analysis approach. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources such as classical books, modern literature, and related scientific journals. The results of the study identified several key strategies. First, a curricular strategy through curriculum reconstruction that combines naqli (religious) and aqli (general & scientific) knowledge in an integrative, rather than secular, manner. Second, a methodological strategy by implementing learning methods that respect the authority of texts but are packaged with a modern pedagogical approach that is critical, innovative, and in accordance with the psychological development of students. Third, a human resource strategy by developing educators (teachers/ustadz) who have a straight understanding of religion while mastering modern educational science and technology. Fourth, a cultural strategy involves creating an Islamic educational environment while still fostering dialogue with contemporary thought and technological advancements. The conclusion of this research is that the integration of Salafi traditions and modernity in Islamic education is not only possible but also essential to foster a generation of moderate Muslims, one with a strong Islamic identity, noble morals, and the ability to actively contribute and compete in the global arena. A holistic and balanced strategy is key to preventing dichotomies, secularism, or fundamentalism in the education system.
