Abstract

Some of problem faced by teachers in learning today are they still have difficulty understanding the character and condition of students, especially those with special needs, they still have diffculty preparing the learning plans for students, they still have difficulty organizing the learning time, and they still have difficulty creating the learning method that involve all students. One solution is to empower teachers through training related to inclusive learning strategies based on the natural brain learning system. The aim of this empowerment is to provide alternative learning methods for teachers that can be accepted by all groups of students. The method used in this empowerment is the community based participatory action research (CBPAR) approch. There are four stages in carrying out empowerment, namely reconnaissance, planning, implementation, and reflection. The results of the empowerment show that this activity can provide knowledge and experience for teachers. Future recommendations, there is a need for teacher assistance after training so that they can know the impact of training activities on students.

Abstract

The 21st century requires everyone to adapt to digital culture. Computational thinking skills help deal with digital culture. These skills can be provided to students through teaching and learning. However, there are several obstacles to achieving this goal. First, teachers do not yet understand how to teach students computing skills through classroom learning. Second, there needs to be more teaching skills based on computational thinking. This community service aims to improve teachers' abilities in training students' computational thinking skills. This is done in the context of teaching and learning to provide 21st-century skills through Scratch programming. The approach used in this activity is educational and participatory. Namely, the implementation of the service contains educational elements and is oriented towards efforts to improve the role of teachers. Community service is carried out through three stages: material preparation, program implementation, evaluation, and monitoring. The material preparation stage involves collecting material from various literature. The program implementation stage provides material regarding 21st-century learning and learning design using Scratch programming. Teachers are also engaged in using Scratch and how to involve students with this programming. The monitoring and evaluation stage includes process evaluation at the end of each activity and product evaluation. This community service shows that 91% of all teachers experienced increased skills in making various learning creations such as animations, games, and simulations based on Scratch programming. Additionally, 87% of all teachers who participated in the activity experienced increased skills in integrating scratch-based teaching materials into learning. This service activity aims to increase teacher skills in teaching computational thinking through scratch programming, which is expected to improve the quality of education in the digital era significantly.

Abstract

Vocational High Schools (SMK) act as key partners for higher education institutions, focusing on transferring knowledge and technology to the broader community. SMKs require high-level competencies for their teachers and students to meet the demands of today’s workforce effectively. To support this need, a community service program aimed at creating metal casting patterns was launched. This initiative called the off-campus community service activity (PkM DLK), was organized by a team of lecturers and students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering Education at Yogyakarta State University. The primary goal of this program was to train teachers and educational staff to proficiently create casting patterns using 3D printing technology, allowing for a more efficient and streamlined process. The activity was conducted at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Bantul, involving both the university team and the school's teachers and staff, specially for the mechanical engineering program. The methodology used for this program was Participatory Action Research (PAR), which encouraged active participation from all involved. Key stages included an introduction to the program, hands-on practice designing pattern models using Inventor CAD 2024 software, simulating the printing process with Ultimaker Cura software, operating 3D printers, printing and finishing the patterns, and finally conducting a casting trial using the newly created patterns. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants giving an average score of 85.88, indicating a "very satisfied" rating. The teachers and educational staff expressed a strong interest in seeing the program continue annually. Abstract

Bugeman Village has great potential for vaname shrimp farming. However, vaname shrimp production in this village is still hindered by suboptimal pond water quality. This has resulted in high shrimp mortality rates and low yields. This community service aims to improve the water quality of round vaname shrimp ponds (KODAME) in Bugeman Village through mentoring undergraduate students studying water quality management. Water quality is very important for the aquaculture process as it can help increase aquaculture productivity and prevent environmental damage. Students will provide training to shrimp farmers on effective pond water management techniques, such as measuring water quality parameters, regulating aeration and filtration, and using probiotics. This program is expected to improve the water quality of shrimp farmers' ponds in Bugeman Village, thereby increasing shrimp production and increasing their income. Bugeman Village is expected to become a self-reliant vaname shrimp village that can improve the welfare of its people. In addition to training, students will also assist shrimp farmers in implementing the learned pond water management techniques. Students will also monitor and evaluate this program to ensure its effectiveness. It is hoped that this program can make a significant contribution to the development of vaname shrimp farming in Bugeman Village and improve the welfare of its people.
