Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in building Adiwiyata Schools through the strengthening of environmental care character in elementary schools. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the application of PBL successfully increased student engagement in various environmental activities such as waste management, reforestation, and water conservation, while also developing environmental care character traits including responsibility, awareness, and cooperation. Support from teachers, principals, parents, and the school environment proved to be crucial factors in the successful implementation of PBL, although several challenges such as limited facilities and student motivation still need to be addressed. The study concludes that PBL is an effective learning strategy to support the Adiwiyata School program and to foster environmental care character from an early age.

Abstract

The low interest in reading of students at the elementary school level is a serious challenge in efforts to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Sami Sabu (One Week One Book) program in increasing students' interest in reading at SD Negeri 1 Samudra Kulon. Using a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach, data was obtained through observation, interviews and documentation of 147 students and teachers involved in the program. The results showed a significant increase in reading interest indicators, such as the frequency of visits to the library, the number of books read, and student participation in literacy discussions. Supporting factors for the success of the program include active teacher involvement, freedom to choose books, a varied reading collection, and consistent student appreciation. Despite facing challenges such as limited book collections and parental involvement, the Sami Sabu program has proven effective in forming a participatory and enjoyable literacy culture. This program is recommended as an innovative model in supporting the School Literacy Movement at the elementary level.

Abstract

The rapid technological advancement of the 21st century has significantly impacted various sectors of life, including education. One phenomenon that has emerged is the increasing use of gadgets among elementary school students, raising concerns about its effects on students' character development. This study aims to explore the influence of gadget use on the character of fifth-grade students at SDN 1 Danakerta. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study collected data through interviews with students, teachers, and parents, as well as direct observations of student behavior. The findings reveal that excessive gadget use negatively affects students' discipline, social skills, and empathy. Students who frequently use gadgets tend to have reduced peer interaction, lower social skills, and less adherence to academic tasks and school behavior rules. In response, both the school and parents have implemented strategies such as limiting screen time and encouraging more social interaction. This study emphasizes the importance of more structured management of gadget use both at school and at home and highlights the need for strengthened collaboration between parents and teachers to support positive character development in students.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the misconceptions of grade 6 students at SD Negeri Danasri Kidul 02 regarding physical fitness. The approach used is descriptive quantitative with a three-tier diagnostic instrument. This instrument reveals misconceptions through multiple-choice questions, reasons for answers, and students' level of confidence. The research subjects are all 15 grade 6 students (8 female and 7 male). Data is analyzed to examine the types of misconceptions, the frequency of their occurrence, and students' confidence in those misconceptions. The research results are expected to provide an accurate overview of students' misconception profiles. This information is important for designing more effective and targeted learning strategies. The three-tier instrument is considered important for an in-depth evaluation of students' understanding, beyond just right or wrong answers. This research also encourages the development of teaching materials to minimize misconceptions. Consequently, the conceptual understanding of physical fitness at the elementary school level can be improved.

Abstract

Inclusive education seeks to ensure equitable access to learning for all students, including those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Despite its growing adoption, the implementation of inclusive practices in Indonesian elementary schools continues to face significant challenges, such as limited teacher competence, inadequate infrastructure, and minimal social support. This study aims to identify effective learning strategies for deaf students within inclusive education settings by conducting a systematic literature review with a qualitative approach. A total of 20 primary sources published between 2011 and 2024 were analyzed. The findings reveal that multisensory approaches, mnemonic techniques, and differentiated instruction significantly improve language acquisition and social skills among deaf students. However, the implementation is hampered by barriers such as insufficient teacher training in sign language, substandard acoustic classroom conditions, and low levels of parental engagement. To address these issues, this study recommends the integration of digital technologies, comprehensive teacher training initiatives, and the development of data-driven educational policies. The results align with Vygotsky’s socio-emotional development theory, highlighting the critical role of social interaction in learning. This study contributes to advancing inclusive education theory and offers practical strategies to enhance the educational experiences of deaf students. Further research through longitudinal studies is suggested to evaluate the sustainability and long-term impact of these strategies.
