Abstract

Education is no longer seen merely as a transmission of knowledge from teachers to students, but as an interactive and dynamic process in which students are positioned as active learners. Progressive teaching methods rooted in the philosophy of pragmatism emphasize experiential learning, contextual engagement, and democratic classroom practices. These principles are strongly aligned with Indonesia’s “Merdeka Curriculum”, which promotes learner autonomy and interest-based education. Furthermore, understanding how students process information through attention, encoding, storage, and retrieval is central to developing effective instructional strategies. This article discusses the theoretical foundations of pragmatism in teaching, practical applications in primary education, challenges in implementation, and how information processing theory informs and optimizes these methods to enhance students’ critical thinking and creativity.

Abstract

The background of this study is that the Independent Curriculum has not been fully implemented in SD Negeri 5 Karangrau. The learning carried out has not shown any bias towards students. Students have not been well facilitated in terms of talent, interests, and learning styles. Educators seem to have difficulty in presenting differentiated learning. The purpose of the study was to determine whether the implementation of SSC (Self Service Creativity) in SD Negeri 5 Karangrau can foster differentiated learning in the Independent Curriculum. This study is a type of qualitative research with a case study method. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that the implementation of SSC (Self Service Creativity) significantly helped educators in implementing differentiated learning. Students get meaningful learning. Students are given the freedom to choose learning strategies that suit their needs. This approach supports the principle of Independent Learning by providing space for creativity and self-reflection for students. The conclusion of this study, SSC (Self Service Creativity) is effectively implemented as a differentiated learning strategy that includes content, process, product by involving aspects of voice, choice and ownership of students. SSC (Self Service Creativity) functions to empower all assets owned by the school. SSC (Self Service Creativity) also involves various components, both biotic and abiotic.

Abstract

This study was conducted in the fourth grade of SDN Mertasinga 06 Cilacap using the direct instruction model in the Mathematics subject on number factors. It can be concluded that the use of the direct instruction model in Mathematics learning can improve students' learning outcomes. Students showed enthusiasm when lessons were delivered directly, especially when combined with engaging games. Data were collected by the teacher through interviews, direct observation during the learning process, and document analysis in the form of students' learning results. The study findings indicate that the implementation of the direct instruction model enhances students' learning outcomes, particularly in terms of understanding the lesson material and communication skills. Through activities such as reading, answering questions, discussing, and explaining, students were more actively involved in the learning process, which ultimately led to improved learning outcomes. Additionally, the direct instruction model increased students' learning motivation, making them more interested and excited about every learning activity. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the direct instruction model be more widely implemented in elementary schools to enhance the effectiveness and quality of learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of problem-based learning using quiz media on the critical thinking skills of SD Negeri 1 Kembaran Kulon students in the 2024/2025 academic year. This is an experimental study that uses a pretest-posttest control group design. The cluster random sampling technique was used. The cluster random sampling technique was used. This study included all fourth-grade pupils at SD N 1 Kembaran Kulon, using samples from class IV a (experimental class) and class IV b (control class). The instrument utilized was a science process skills test consisting of multiple-choice reasoned questions that were initially validated for validity, reliability, discrimination power, and question difficulty level. The pretest homogeneity test revealed that the experimental and control classes had similar baseline abilities, implying that the treatment's effect was determined by the posttest. The analysis equipment test revealed that the posttest data were normally distributed and homogeneous, so the parametric t-test pooled variance statistic with two-tailed t-test criteria was used, with the t count of 5.38 and the t table of 1.99 at a 5% significance level. If - ttable < tcount > + ttable, Ho is rejected while Ha is approved. As a result, it is possible to conclude that problem-based learning through quiz media has an impact on the critical thinking abilities of SD Negeri 1 Kembaran Kulon during the 2024/2025 academic year.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology demands early coding education in elementary schools. Coding enhances students' logical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills, preparing them for future challenges. This research explores the urgency of coding education in Indonesia through a qualitative literature review. Findings show that coding promotes computational thinking and 21st century skills. However, its implementation faces challenges, such as lack of teacher training, limited infrastructure and gaps in the curriculum. The government and education stakeholders should integrate coding into the primary school curriculum, provide training for teachers and develop supporting infrastructure. Addressing these challenges will ensure coding education benefits Indonesian students, equipping them for the digital age.

Abstract

This research aims to analyse teachers' efforts in developing national character through social studies learning in Gugus Hasanudin, Cipari Sub-district. National character is important to be instilled from an early age to form an attitude of love for the country and awareness of the nation. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive method. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and document analysis. Pre-research results show that teachers have implemented various strategies in social studies learning, but still face challenges such as low awareness of nationalism and the influence of outside cultures. Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are also not optimal in supporting the strengthening of national character. This research emphasises the importance of more innovative and systematic learning strategies so that students' national character can be formed optimally.

Abstract

Education is not only about mastering academic material but also about developing social and emotional skills essential for life success. This study aims to explore the influence of integrating social and emotional learning (SEL) on students' critical thinking and academic achievement. This research used a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The subjects were 5th-grade students at SD Negeri Sidareja 01. The analysis results showed that social and emotional learning (SEL) had a significant positive impact on improving critical thinking skills and academic achievement in Mathematics. The experimental class following the SEL method demonstrated a higher increase in posttest scores compared to the control class. Statistical tests indicated that the data did not follow a normal distribution, but the variance between groups was homogeneous. Therefore, this study supports the hypothesis that SEL positively influences students' critical thinking and academic achievement.
