Abstract

The rapid growth of the skincare industry in Indonesia has intensified competition among brands, making it essential to understand the factors that influence consumer purchase decisions in digital environments. This study aims to examine the effects of Brand Image, Social Media Engagement, and Electronic Word-of-Mouth (e-WOM) on consumers’ Purchase Decisions toward Kojic Plankton skincare products. A quantitative research approach was employed using a survey method. Data were collected from 134 consumers who had purchased and used Kojic Plankton products. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis with SPSS software. The results indicate that Brand Image, Social Media Engagement, and e-WOM each have a positive and significant effect on Purchase Decision. Among the three variables, e-WOM emerged as the strongest predictor (β = 0.438), followed by Social Media Engagement (β = 0.276) and Brand Image (β = 0.217). Furthermore, the simultaneous test revealed that the three variables collectively explain 70.8% of the variance in Purchase Decision (R² = 0.708). The findings suggest that consumer-generated information plays a more influential role than firm-generated communication in shaping purchasing decisions within the Indonesian skincare market. This study contributes to the literature on digital marketing and consumer behavior by highlighting the increasing importance of online consumer interactions and social influence mechanisms in social commerce environments. The results also provide practical insights for skincare companies seeking to enhance consumer engagement and strengthen purchase decisions through effective digital marketing strategies.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social commerce has transformed electronic word-of-mouth (e-WOM) into a critical factor influencing consumer perceptions and business outcomes. This study aims to examine the influence of e-WOM on Perceived Marketing Performance through the mediating roles of Brand Reputation and Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) within the TikTok Shop ecosystem. Drawing on Signaling Theory and the Resource-Based View (RBV), the study proposes a dual-pathway framework consisting of a cognitive-rational pathway represented by Brand Reputation and an affective-social pathway represented by FoMO. A quantitative research design was employed using a survey method. Data were collected from 245 TikTok Shop users in Indonesia through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that e-WOM significantly influences both Brand Reputation and FOMO. Furthermore, Brand Reputation and FOMO were found to have significant positive effects on Perceived Marketing Performance. Mediation analysis reveals that both variables significantly mediate the relationship between e-WOM and Perceived Marketing Performance. However, Brand Reputation emerged as the dominant mediating mechanism, exhibiting a substantially stronger indirect effect than FOMO. The findings suggest that while emotional triggers contribute to consumer evaluations, reputation-based assessments remain the primary mechanism through which e-WOM translates into perceptions of marketing effectiveness.  Theoretically, this study advances social commerce research by integrating cognitive and affective pathways into a unified framework. Practically, the findings suggest that social commerce practitioners should prioritize long-term brand reputation management over short-term promotional hype, utilizing e-WOM to reinforce credibility while selectively employing FOMO-driven tactics during live-stream shopping events.

Abstract

In tourism-related retail, customer satisfaction is a critical determinant of business competitiveness and sustainability. Souvenir stores are particularly vulnerable to fluctuations in tourist arrivals, which may affect service quality during peak demand periods. This study examines the effect of service quality on customer satisfaction and investigates the mediating role of perceived value. The research was conducted at “S” Souvenir Store in Garut Regency, Indonesia, a tourist destination characterized by seasonal visitor fluctuations. An explanatory quantitative approach was employed, with data collected from 110 customers through a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4. The results indicate that service quality has a significant positive effect on both perceived value and customer satisfaction. In addition, perceived value has a significant positive effect on customer satisfaction and partially mediates the relationship between service quality and customer satisfaction. These findings suggest that customer satisfaction is influenced not only by service performance but also by the perceived value derived from the exchange. Theoretically, this study contributes to tourism retail literature by positioning perceived value as a mediating mechanism in the relationship between service quality and customer satisfaction. Practically, souvenir retailers should focus not only on improving service delivery but also on enhancing customers’ perceived value to strengthen satisfaction outcomes.

Abstract

Human Resource Management (HRM) has become a strategic determinant of sustainable economic development amid globalization, digital transformation, and the transition toward a knowledge-based economy. Although previous studies have extensively examined the relationships between Human Resource Management, Human Capital, Community-Based Development (CBD), and Sustainable Economic Development (SED), these concepts have largely been investigated independently, resulting in limited understanding of their integrated role in promoting inclusive and sustainable development. This study aims to develop an integrated conceptual framework that explains how Human Resource Management contributes to Sustainable Economic Development through Human Capital Development and is strengthened by Community-Based Development within the Indonesian context. A conceptual research design was employed using a structured literature review approach. Relevant studies indexed in the Scopus database were systematically identified, screened, synthesized, and critically analyzed to establish conceptual relationships among the four constructs. The findings propose the Integrated Community-Based Human Resource Management Framework, which positions Human Resource Management as a strategic driver for developing Human Capital through competency development, lifelong learning, talent management, and capacity building. Community-Based Development functions as an enabling mechanism that transforms individual capabilities into collective capacity through participation, empowerment, collaboration, and institutional strengthening, ultimately contributing to productivity growth, innovation, competitiveness, social inclusion, and long-term sustainable economic development. The framework further highlights the dynamic interaction between Human Capital Development and Community-Based Development through a feedback mechanism influenced by contextual drivers, including digital transformation, institutional governance, public policy, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study contributes to the literature by integrating Human Resource Management, Human Capital, Community-Based Development, and Sustainable Economic Development into a unified conceptual framework that extends the role of Human Resource Management beyond organizational performance toward a development-oriented perspective. The proposed framework also provides strategic insights for policymakers, organizations, educational institutions, and community stakeholders in designing more inclusive and sustainable human resource development policies.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between perceived interactivity and visual aesthetics regarding impulse buying, with perceived enjoyment acting as a moderator in the context of beauty home services, and to analyze differences in consumer behavior based on the period of usage (≤ 2 years vs > 2 years). Grounded in the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) theory, this explanatory quantitative study employed purposive sampling to collect data from 233 respondents in the Jabodetabek area. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4 software. Structural analysis revealed no significant difference in path coefficients between the two groups new users (≤ 2 years) and experienced users (> 2 years). This indicates that, when using the service, both new and long-term users consistently exhibit the same effects, regardless of the duration of their experience.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) on users’ intention to use the Strava application, with social media serving as a moderating variable. The increasing popularity of Strava, accompanied by the growing practice of sharing sports and fitness activities through social media platforms, suggests that users’ intention to use the application is influenced not only by health-related motivations but also by psychological and social factors. Individuals may be motivated to remain active and engaged within digital communities to avoid feeling excluded or left by their peers. A quantitative research approach was employed through a survey method involving 100 Strava users in Bandung City. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling techniques. The analysis of data was performed through basic linear regression and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) utilizing SPSS software. The results indicate that FoMO has a notably positive influence on the likelihood of utilizing the Strava application, as shown by a significance value of 0.001 (1.984). Additionally, social media was identified as a significant moderator in the connection between FoMO and the intention to use, evidenced by a significance value of 0.016 (< 0.05) and a positive interaction coefficient of 0.041. These findings suggest that increased levels of FoMO correlate with heightened intentions to engage with the Strava application and that social media enhances this connection. This research adds to the expanding literature on digital consumer habits, especially regarding the impact of psychological aspects on the use of fitness applications that are based on social media.

Abstract

This study empirically examines the direct effects of green innovation adoption and digital technology utilization on MSME performance and sustainable business competitiveness, as well as the effect of MSME performance on sustainable business competitiveness, in the context of MSMEs in Medan, Indonesia. Method. A quantitative, cross-sectional survey design was employed. Primary data were collected from 100 MSMEs, selected by purposive sampling from a population of 18,000 active units using the Slovin formula, through a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) in SmartPLS 4, including outer model evaluation (loading factor, AVE, composite reliability, Cronbach's alpha, discriminant validity) and inner model evaluation (R², f²). Main Findings. All measurement constructs met the required thresholds, confirming convergent validity, discriminant validity, and reliability. The structural model shows that Sustainable Business Competitiveness is explained by the exogenous variables with R² = 0.385, while MSME Performance is explained with R² = 0.295. Green Innovation and Digital Technology exert a moderate effect on Sustainable Business Competitiveness (f² = 0.218 and f² = 0.192, respectively), while their direct effect on MSME Performance is very small (f² = 0.002 and f² = 0.006). MSME Performance, in turn, shows a moderate effect on Sustainable Business Competitiveness (f² = 0.194). Practical Implications. The findings inform MSME owners, business incubators, MSME facilitators, and digital platform providers that green innovation initiatives yield stronger competitiveness gains when embedded within a broader digital transformation strategy. For policy makers, particularly the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, the results support targeted programs on digital literacy, eco-innovation subsidies, and integrated capacity-building schemes for second-tier city MSMEs. Originality. This study contributes an integrated, empirically validated model that combines digital technology utilization and green innovation adoption as joint predictors of MSME performance and sustainable competitiveness, tested through SEM-PLS on Indonesian MSMEs a setting under-represented in the existing Q1/Q2 literature.

Abstract

The Bottled Drinking Water (BDW) industry in Indonesia has grown significantly, yet Club brand has experienced a consistent decline in its Top Brand Index from 5.80% in 2021 to 3.30% in 2024. This study aims to examine the effect of product quality on repurchase intention mediated by customer satisfaction for Club brand bottled drinking water consumers in Bandung City. A quantitative survey approach was employed with convenience sampling. Data were collected from 130 respondents aged 17 years and above who had previously consumed Club brand bottled water in Bandung City. The research instruments were tested for validity using Pearson correlation (r-table = 0.3610) and reliability using Cronbach's Alpha, with all items declared valid and reliable. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression, multiple linear regression, and the Sobel test with SPSS version 27. The results show that product quality has a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction (t = 6.028, sig = 0.000). However, product quality does not have a significant direct effect on repurchase intention (t = 1.455, sig = 0.148). Customer satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on repurchase intention (t = 4.994, sig = 0.000). Furthermore, customer satisfaction significantly mediates the effect of product quality on repurchase intention (Sobel t = 3.841 > t-table = 1.981). These findings indicate that product quality influences repurchase intention indirectly through customer satisfaction. The results are particularly relevant to the current Bottled Drinking Water (BDW) industry, where increasing market competition and rising consumer expectations require companies to focus not only on improving product quality but also on delivering superior customer sastisfaction. Therefore, strengthening customer sastisfaction should become a strategic priority for sustaining customer loyalty and encouraging repurchase intention.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social commerce has transformed consumer purchasing behavior, making it essential to understand the factors that influence purchase decisions in digital environments. This study aims to examine the effects of social proof, perceived scarcity, perceived value, and parasocial interaction on purchase decisions in social commerce in Indonesia. A quantitative research approach with a survey method was employed. Data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed to 100 social commerce users in Indonesia aged 20–35 years, selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument was tested for validity and reliability, and the data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS Statistics 25 for Windows. The results indicate that social proof, perceived scarcity, perceived value, and parasocial interaction simultaneously have a significant effect on purchase decisions. Partially, all four variables were found to have positive and significant effects on purchase decisions. Among the examined variables, perceived scarcity showed the strongest influence, followed by parasocial interaction, social proof, and perceived value. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination indicates that these variables explain 33.2% of the variance in purchase decisions, while the remaining 66.8% is influenced by other factors outside the research model. These findings contribute to the social commerce literature by highlighting the importance of social, psychological, and value-related factors in shaping consumer purchase decisions. The results also provide practical implications for businesses in developing effective digital marketing strategies to enhance consumer engagement and purchasing behavior.

Abstract

Digital platforms increasingly shape destination discovery, but the effectiveness of behavioral cues may differ between commercial tourism products and community-based cultural destinations. This study examines the effects of Scarcity Nudge, Urgency Nudge, and Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) on Generation Z's Visit Intention toward Kaba-Kaba Tourism Village, Bali. Using a between-subject quasi-experimental design, 120 active social media users aged 18-29 who had never visited the village were exposed to neutral, scarcity-based, or urgency-based digital promotional content. The visual format and destination information were standardized, while the textual cue was varied across conditions. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Urgency Nudge had a positive and significant effect on Visit Intention (beta = 0.570, p < 0.001), whereas Scarcity Nudge (beta = 0.105, p = 0.315) and FOMO (beta = 0.121, p = 0.079) were not significant. FOMO also did not moderate either nudge-intention relationship. The findings show that Generation Z responded more strongly to credible time-bound opportunities than to limited-availability or social-pressure cues in this cultural tourism context. The study extends digital nudging research by demonstrating its destination-specific effectiveness and recommends that tourism village managers promote genuine limited-time cultural events, seasonal activities, and community-led experiences while avoiding artificial scarcity claims.
