Abstract

Abstract  In the field of political behavior, tolerance is a crucial element to keep harmonious relationship. Studies should be able to measure a valid construct of tolerance in an effort to understand it further. Ferrar (1979) conducted a research focusing on the concept of political tolerance and theorized political tolerance to have three dimensions, namely flexible, approval, and allowance. This study aims to construct a political tolerance scale based on Ferrar’s concept and dimensions. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) is employed to test the construct validity and dimensionality of the Political Tolerance Scale. Participants were 300 Indonesian-Muslims. The results support the Political Tolerance Scale as a unidimensional scale consists of flexible, approval, and allowance dimensions. However, the limitation of the samples’ characteristic suggests future studies to conduct further researches on samples with different characteristics. Abstract

Damage will hit the people of a country when corruption has become a culture. However, religion as a way of life for the people is able to contribute to dampening this culture of corruption, so that it can save people from the destruction of their culture of life. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a literate approach. The results of the study stated that religion greatly contributed to reducing the culture of corruption. However, there are still challenges for religion to be able to contribute to reducing the culture of corruption, including the limited involvement of religious leaders in political issues, religious differences, lack of coordination between religious institutions and the government, cultural and social environmental factors, lack of supervision and strict law enforcement. In addition, there are limitations of religious leaders in their mastery of general science and technology. Keywords: Corruption Culture; Religion; Contribution

Abstract

Since the beginning of independence, Pancasila as the state ideology has been becoming a debate along with the increasing Islamic political awareness among Muslims. This study aims to analyze the debate among college students, lecturers and directors of the Islamic Religious Colleges (STAIs) about Pancasila as the state ideology. It used a quantitative research method with a total sample of 222 students at semester 5 disproportionately allocated to each selected college. The sampling in this survey was conducted by means of Stratified Multistage Sampling with the confidence level of 95%. This research was also strengthened by qualitative data that were extracted by interviewing the directors and lecturers of Islamic Religious Colleges (STAI) in Semarang, Denpasar, Jambi, Kupang and Banjarbaru. From this research, it can be concluded that the college students, lecturers and directors of STAIN have supported Pancasila as the state ideology that is not contradicting to Islam and will defend Pancasila as the state ideology. They also do not expect Pancasila to be replaced with Islam. This tendency then has shown the face of inclusive and moderate Islamic politics among college students, lecturers and directors of STAI. Keyword: Islamic Politics, Pancasila, Academic Communities.

Abstract

The lifestyle of the Bugis people has shifted since the presence of Islam. The Bugis people no longer refer to local traditions and customs but are starting to pay attention to Islamic values. So that the movement of the Bugis community cannot be separated from Bugis traditions or customs and Islamic teachings. The well-known Bugis culture is Panngaderreng, the five values of life resulting from joint deliberations on trades and Islamic studies. The panngaderreng formulation requires that Islam be placed as a teaching that must be side by side with the customs and culture of the Bugis community in any sector. It is different from the pilgrimage ritual. In the Bugis tribe, women get a more significant opportunities than men. This is based on the level of interest of Bugis women in the pilgrimage ritual. They place Hajj as a religious status that has a delay because Islamic teachings have only been echoed in this new era compared to their traditions or customs. The method used in this paper is to use a qualitative approach with a literature review (literature review). A literature study was conducted through written data using content analysis. This technique helps obtain a theoretical basis by reviewing and studying books, documents, and research results related to the social mobility of Bugis women.

Abstract

Radicalism of Islamic politics in Indonesia has been characterized with violence. In the context of DI/TII (Darul Islam/Indonesia Islamic Army), Islamic politics refers to the rebel movements against the Indonesian government in view of both political disappointment and radical religious understanding. This study aims to analyze the adaptation of DI/TII in Islamic education in Olan Hamlet, Garut as the basis of the DI/TII movement. It used a qualitative method based upon primary data obtained from interviews with the Head of Islamic Boarding School Nurul Falah in Olan Hamlet, Garut, community figures, religious figures nearby and government. This study found that the radical Islamic political movement of DI/TII did not undergo any metamorphosis to the Islamic education movements through the Madrasah and Islamic boarding school of Nurul Falah in Olan Hamlet, Garut. In fact, the Islamic boarding school and Madrasah have had some efforts to campaign for moderate religious understanding through the programs and curricula. Hence, there are no worries of government about the emergence of the radical movements in Olan Hamlet. The religious figures, however, still suspect the metamorphosis of DI/TII in this hamlet. Keyword: Radicalism, DI/TII, Islamic Politics
