Abstract

The main thrust of this qualitative case study research was to establish the essence of counsellors in the fight against drug and substance abuse, informed by Beck’s (1960) Cognitive Behavioral Theory. While both convenience and purposive sampling techniques were adopted in the selection of participants, qualitative data gathering instruments namely semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions were used to collect data. A phenomenological analysis (PA) was utilized to analyse the lived experiences and meanings of participants. The study established that counsellors are pivotal in the management and reduction of drug and substance abuse as they adopt counselling and relapse management. They also help in educational circles by ensuring that mental health is stabilised as youths are made to focus on education and development of the economy. To this end, the research recommends that counsellors should foster collaborative relationship and use multidisciplinary approach in addition to staying updated and using a variety of public awareness activities for both abusers and would be abusers. Overall, the study is significant to policy makers and professionals as they will make informed decisions that are research-based.

Abstract

This research aims to integrate the Community Based Tourism approach in physical education through surfing activities at Cimaja Beach, Sukabumi. Using a descriptive qualitative method, this study examines how outdoor physical activities can be implemented contextually to develop motor skills, form character, and empower local communities. The data collection technique involves in-depth interviews, participatory observations, Focus Group Discussions, and documentation studies. The results of the study show that surfing activities significantly improve the balance, coordination, and physical strength of students. In addition, this activity also instills the values of courage, sportsmanship, and cooperation, in accordance with the principles of affective learning and experiential learning. The involvement of local communities in training and facilitation also enriches the social and cultural dimensions of learning, creating a participatory and contextual educational model. However, this study also found a number of obstacles such as lack of infrastructure, limited tools, and low teacher competence in outdoor education. Overall, the CBT-based physical education model contributes to the achievement of basic competencies in the PJOK curriculum, as well as being a means of inclusive social transformation. This model is recommended to be replicated in other areas with natural tourism potential, as a meaningful, sustainable, and community-based outdoor education innovation.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between hand muscle strength and hand-eye coordination with underhand passing skills in volleyball extracurricular students at SMPN 1 Talegong. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. Data were collected directly during extracurricular training sessions through a series of tests conducted in sequence. Each student participated in a hand muscle strength test, a hand–eye coordination test, and an underhand passing skills test. The study sample consisted of 20 male students who actively participate in volleyball training. The results showed that the data were normally distributed and the relationship between variables was linear. The correlation test showed a positive and significant relationship between hand muscle strength and underhand passing skills, as well as between hand-eye coordination and underhand passing skills. In addition, the double correlation between hand muscle strength and hand-eye coordination with underhand passing skills was also significant. These findings indicate that increasing hand muscle strength and hand-eye coordination together can improve underhand passing skills in volleyball students. Therefore, it is recommended that volleyball training programs in schools emphasize the development of these two aspects to improve player performance. This research provides an important contribution to sports development, particularly in the development of volleyball underhand passing techniques.

Abstract

This study explores the transformational leadership of madrasah principals and its impact on teacher performance in three institutions in West Sumatra: Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri (MTsN) Model Padang, MTsN 1 Kota Pariaman, and MTsN 4 Pasaman. The research addresses challenges such as the suboptimal application of transformational leadership in achieving transformative governance and the inadequate execution of managerial and supervisory functions. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion-drawing techniques. Data validity was ensured through extended engagement and consistent observation. The findings reveal that although transformational leadership practices are present, their implementation does not fully support transformative governance. Identified issues include teacher tardiness, insufficient administrative preparation, inappropriate teaching methods, weak classroom management, and the absence of evaluation and follow-up through remedial or enrichment programs. This study introduces the concept of Madrasah Head Leadership in 3 MTsN, which emphasizes a model of transformational leadership aligned with Ki Hajar Dewantara’s educational philosophy. This model focuses on openness to change and access to innovation in educational management. Through role modeling, motivation, and guidance, principals are expected to improve teacher performance and contribute to the overall development of the madrasah.

Abstract

Children aged 5-6 years tend to have a short attention span, so special strategies are needed to build their learning readiness from the beginning of classroom activities. This study aims to determine the application of ice-breaking activities for learning preparation for children aged 5-6 years at KB/RA Muslimat NU Darussalam Alastuwo. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects of the study were 20 children of Kindergarten B and 2 teachers. The results show that activities such as clapping games, interactive songs, and rhythmic movements are used to prepare children for learning before learning begins. However, the variation of activities is still limited, so it is necessary to develop more creative strategies. The recommendation of this study is that teachers can integrate ice-breaking activities inclusively and diversely in the daily curriculum.

Abstract

Lecturers' social competence is essential in fostering a harmonious academic environment, particularly in religious universities where moral, spiritual, and cultural values intersect. This study investigates how social competence measured through communication, empathy, conflict management, and collaboration affects campus harmony. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through a survey of 150 lecturers and students and in-depth interviews with 15 lecturers. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that social competence significantly predicts campus harmony. Communication and empathy emerged as the most influential dimensions, followed by collaboration and conflict management. Classical assumption tests confirmed the validity of the model. Thematic analysis of qualitative data reinforced these findings, highlighting that informal dialogue, emotional sensitivity, and cooperative engagement are central to building inclusive and respectful campus communities. The integration of both data types through triangulation validated the multidimensional impact of social competence. This study concludes that social competence must be institutionalized through structured training and policy reforms in religious universities to improve educational climate and interpersonal relations. Findings contribute to the discourse on relational pedagogy, emphasizing that social competence is not peripheral but central to holistic education.

Lecturers' social competence is one of the most crucial aspects in efforts to improve the quality of education in higher education, especially in the environment of Religious Higher Education, where in addition to being required to have superior and in- depth academic abilities, lecturers must also be able to develop adequate social competence in order to establish effective and harmonious interactions with students, fellow colleagues, and the wider community; in this article, various challenges faced by lecturers in Religious Higher Education in the process of developing social competence are discussed in depth, as well as solutions that can be applied to overcome the obstacles that arise in order to improve the quality of their social competence; this study uses a qualitative approach that allows detailed identification of internal and external factors that influence the development of lecturers' social competence, while providing practical recommendations that are expected to be a reference in supporting the development of sustainable social competence in religious higher education. The results of this study indicate that the development of social competence of lecturers in religious universities faces various significant challenges such as the lack of specific training in social skills, differences in values and cultures that affect interactions between lecturers and students and colleagues, and high academic loads that limit the time and energy of lecturers to develop social aspects. Therefore, strategic solutions that need to be implemented include organizing training and workshops that focus on developing communication skills, conflict management, and leadership.

Abstract

A preliminary study found that qualitative findings revealed a gap between expectations and reality in the transformational leadership of school principals in implementing character education. Principals were not consistently setting a good example for students, teachers, staff, or parents, resulting in suboptimal implementation of character education. This study aims to describe the implementation of character education in the Pancasila Student Profile and analyze the principal’s role in providing ideal influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. It also identifies the driving and inhibiting factors in the implementation of character education at SDN Kotagede 5. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, with validity tested using credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The findings show that character education has been well implemented across learning, school culture, and extracurricular activities, covering six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile. The study concludes that the principal’s transformational leadership plays a strategic role in creating a supportive environment, though challenges remain in student discipline and school coordination. Strengthening teacher appreciation, parental involvement, and student mentoring strategies are recommended to improve effectiveness.
