Abstract

Low back pain is among the most commonly reported musculoskeletal complaints worldwide, affecting an estimated 619 million people globally in 2020, with the number projected to increase to 843 million by 2050. In Indonesia, the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (Survei Kesehatan Indonesia / SKI) reported a national prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders of 7.30%. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Tuina Rou Fa technique therapy at acupoints BL 23, BL 25, and BL 40 on reducing low back pain intensity in adult patients. This study employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 30 respondents at Klinik Velda, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, who met the established inclusion criteria. The Tuina Rou Fa intervention was administered for 8 sessions (twice weekly for 4 weeks). Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test for normality assessment and the paired-samples t-test for hypothesis testing. The mean NRS score decreased from 4.83 (SD = 1.949) before the intervention to 1.03 (SD = 1.273) after the intervention, with a mean reduction of 3.800 points (SD = 1.064), representing an approximately 78.7% decrease from the baseline pain score. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (t = -19.571; df = 29; p < 0.001). Tuina Rou Fa technique therapy at acupoints BL 23, BL 25, and BL 40 demonstrated a statistically significant association with reduced low back pain intensity among adult patients. Further studies using randomized controlled designs and larger samples are recommended to confirm these findings.

Abstract

Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder encountered in clinical practice, reducing quality of life and increasing the risk of various health problems. Conventional sedative-hypnotic treatments may cause adverse effects, including dependence and cognitive impairment, highlighting the need for safe and effective alternative therapies. Acupuncture at the PC 6 acupoint (Nei Guan) and wedang pala (nutmeg herbal drink) are complementary therapies with potential synergistic effects for improving sleep quality. This study aimed to analyze the effect of PC 6 acupuncture combined with wedang pala on improving sleep quality among patients with insomnia. This quantitative study employed a pretest–posttest control group design. Thirty patients with insomnia from Klinik Velda, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, were divided into two groups: the PC 6 acupuncture combined with wedang pala group (n = 15) and the PC 6 acupuncture-only group (n = 15). The interventions were administered eight times (twice weekly). Sleep quality was measured using the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test for normality assessment and paired-samples t-tests for hypothesis testing. All data were normally distributed (p > 0.05). The combination therapy group demonstrated a significant reduction in ISI scores from 15.20 ± 4.98 to 7.00 ± 2.72 (t(14) = -17.85; p < 0.001). The acupuncture-only group also showed a significant decrease in ISI scores from 16.20 ± 4.24 to 8.73 ± 2.60 (t(14) = -18.63; p < 0.001). Both groups demonstrated statistically significant improvements in sleep quality (p < 0.001). PC 6 acupuncture, both alone and combined with wedang pala, was associated with reduced ISI scores among patients with moderate insomnia. The combination therapy showed a greater numerical reduction in ISI scores, suggesting a potential complementary benefit between the two interventions. Further studies with larger samples and controlled designs are recommended to confirm these findings.

Abstract

Agile methodology is widely adopted in software development due to its adaptability to evolving requirements. However, within IT consulting organizations that manage projects with fixed deadlines, high task dependencies, and concurrent multi-project execution, Agile implementation often faces challenges related to project planning, scheduling, and control. This study aimed to analyze the role of progressive baseline planning, a staged planning approach that applies layered baselines and detailed timeline decomposition, in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of Agile project execution. This research employed a qualitative approach using a comparative case study design involving two software development projects within the same IT consulting organization: the NOI External Project and the Document Generator Project. Although both projects demonstrated comparable levels of complexity and development duration, they showed significant differences in execution performance. Data were collected through project document analysis and semi-structured interviews with project team members. The findings indicate that the implementation of progressive baseline planning in the NOI External Project enabled more detailed task decomposition, identification of parallelizable activities, and data-driven project monitoring through planned-versus-actual performance comparisons. The project was completed 12.5% faster than the initial estimate (14 weeks compared with 16 weeks). In contrast, the Document Generator Project experienced a 60% schedule delay (16 weeks compared with the planned 10 weeks) due to the absence of a structured baseline planning approach. These findings suggest that progressive baseline planning can strengthen Agile project control by improving schedule visibility, resource coordination, and execution predictability in complex IT consulting environments.

Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of Diffit-assisted Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R) reading instruction on reading comprehension achievement and engagement among senior high school EFL students in a rural context. Using an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design with a pretest–posttest control group design, the study involved 60 Grade XII students from two intact classes at a public senior high school in Bulungan, North Kalimantan, Indonesia. The experimental group received SQ3R instruction integrated with the AI-based Diffit application, whereas the control group received conventional reading instruction. Quantitative data were collected through reading comprehension tests, while qualitative data were obtained through classroom observations, performance rubrics, and semi-structured interviews with six students. The results showed that the experimental group achieved a significantly higher mean gain score (10.47) than the control group (4.07). An independent-samples t-test confirmed a statistically significant difference between the groups, t(58) = 6.89, p < .001, with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.78). Classroom observations indicated that the intervention promoted stronger strategic reading behaviors and higher engagement, as students became more active, independent, and confident in previewing texts, generating questions, identifying main ideas, summarizing information, and reviewing materials. Interview findings revealed generally positive student perceptions, with Diffit being considered helpful for simplifying vocabulary and supporting comprehension. However, some students experienced initial difficulties in generating questions and occasional internet connectivity issues. These findings suggest that integrating SQ3R with AI-assisted tools can effectively enhance reading comprehension, strategic reading behaviors, and engagement among EFL students in resource-limited rural learning environments.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relevance of am?nah, m?z?n, and the prevention of isr?f, integrate these principles with contemporary sustainability theories, and develop a sustainable value-based Islamic education management model for Islamic higher education institutions. The study employs a qualitative library research design using the Tafs?r ‘Ilm? Maw??‘? Muqayyad approach. Primary sources include the Qur’an, major Qur’anic commentaries, literature on Islamic education management, quality assurance documents, and foundational works on Ecological Modernization, Co-Creation, the Common Good, and the Steady-State Economy. The analysis comprises verse identification, linguistic and exegetical analysis, theoretical synthesis, identification of governance gaps, and conceptual model development. The findings indicate that am?nah provides a foundation for responsibility and accountability; m?z?n underpins balance, justice, and quality; and the prevention of isr?f promotes efficiency and waste reduction. The synthesis of these principles produces six interconnected components: sustainable planning, sustainable governance, sustainable implementation, sustainable monitoring and evaluation, sustainability key performance indicators (KPIs), and the integration of sustainability into quality assurance and accreditation. These six components are operationalized through 90 performance indicators, the Internal Quality Assurance System, the Setting, Implementation, Evaluation, Control, and Improvement cycle, and the nine accreditation criteria of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). The proposed model positions sustainability as an integral component of the institutional quality system and organizational culture rather than as an additional program. This study extends contemporary sustainability theories into the field of Islamic education management and provides an operational framework for developing Islamic higher education institutions that are accountable, efficient, equitable, environmentally responsible, and sustainable.

Abstract

Digital technology has become an important component of contemporary education, including early childhood education, by providing opportunities to create interactive and meaningful learning experiences. However, the effective integration of digital technologies to support children’s language development depends on educators’ digital competencies, available resources, and appropriate pedagogical practices. This study aimed to understand how early childhood educators used digital technologies to support children’s language development. This research employed a qualitative approach using an empirical research design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with one school coordinator and three early childhood educators at Creche Knua Labarik, Dili. The collected data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis to identify educators’ experiences, practices, perceived benefits, and challenges related to digital technology integration. The findings indicated that digital technologies supported children’s language development by improving communication skills, stimulating verbal expression, expanding vocabulary, encouraging creativity, and providing exposure to multiple languages. Digital resources, including videos, songs, educational applications, digital stories, and interactive games, were found to enhance children’s engagement and participation in learning activities. However, several challenges remained, including limited technological infrastructure, the need for educator training, and concerns regarding excessive screen exposure among children. This study suggests that digital technologies should be integrated as complementary learning tools supported by adequate infrastructure, continuous professional development, and culturally appropriate digital resources to optimize children’s language development.

Abstract

Digital transformation has significantly changed people's media consumption patterns, especially among Generation Z who are growing and developing in a digital technology environment. The development of social media, digital video platforms, and over-the-top (OTT) services has led to a shift in media consumption from conventional broadcasting media to internet-based media. This condition presents new challenges for broadcasting institutions in maintaining the relevance, audience, and sustainability of their business models. This research aims to analyze changes in Generation Z media consumption patterns and identify policy directions that need to be taken by broadcasting institutions in facing the transformation of the digital media ecosystem. The research uses a qualitative approach with the library research method through the analysis of various scientific articles, books, media industry reports, and relevant policy documents. The results of the study show that social media has become the main source of information and entertainment for Generation Z, while linear television consumption has decreased significantly. These changes encourage audience fragmentation, increased competition with OTT platforms, and a shift in advertising spending towards digital media. In addition, there is a regulatory imbalance between broadcasting institutions and digital platforms that requires policy updates. Therefore, broadcasting institutions need to carry out multiplatform transformation, strengthen digital content development, utilize audience data strategically, increase digital media literacy, and encourage broadcasting regulatory reform that is more adaptive to media convergence. These findings show that the success of broadcasting institutions in dealing with changes in Generation Z's media consumption patterns is highly dependent on the ability to adapt to technological developments and the behavioral dynamics of digital audiences.

Abstract

Cultural diversity plays an important role in shaping social identity and community relationships in Indonesia. Within this context, kretek is viewed not only as a commercial product but also as part of cultural heritage, local traditions, and social interactions. However, shifts in consumer behavior and the increasing influence of global culture have challenged traditional brands in maintaining their cultural relevance, particularly among younger generations. This study aimed to examine the cultural communication strategies implemented by the Tali Jagat brand through the Kretek Unites Indonesians campaign to build relationships with local communities. This study employed a qualitative case study approach using an embedded single-case design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 12 participants, document analysis of campaign materials, and participant observation at community-based cultural events in East Java. The findings revealed three main strategies: the integration of local cultural values, community engagement as a relationship-building mechanism, and hyperlocal communication practices adapted to regional identities. The results indicated that Tali Jagat used cultural narratives, collective experiences, and community participation to strengthen brand authenticity and foster emotional connections with its audiences. The study concluded that cultural communication extended beyond promotional activities and functioned as a strategic approach to developing sustainable relationships between brands and local communities through shared cultural meanings and participatory experiences.
