Abstract

Background: Preoperative anxiety is a prevalent psychological response among pediatric patients undergoing surgery, which tends to escalate during the induction of anesthesia. Elevated anxiety levels can trigger negative behavioral manifestations—such as crying, screaming, and resisting medical procedures—while adversely affecting the anesthesia induction process, postoperative recovery, and the child's overall psychological well-being. Parental presence and the utilization of digital devices as distraction methods represent potential non-pharmacological interventions to alleviate pediatric anxiety throughout the perioperative period. Method: This study employed a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest with a control group design. The study population comprised 371 pediatric patients undergoing anesthesia at Dr. Hasan Sadikin Central General Hospital, Bandung. A sample of 60 respondents was selected via purposive sampling and allocated into either the intervention group or the control group. The intervention group received parental presence combined with digital device distraction, whereas the control group received parental presence alone. Anxiety levels were measured using the Modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale (mYPAS). Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney U tests due to the non-normal distribution of the data. Result: The mean difference in pre-to-postoperative anxiety scores was 11.50 in the intervention group and 10.50 in the control group. The comparative analysis of anxiety levels revealed a significant difference between the intervention and control groups during the induction of anesthesia (p = 0.047; p < 0.05).Conclusion: Parental presence integrated with digital device distraction is significantly more effective in mitigating pediatric anxiety during anesthesia induction than parental presence alone. This intervention can be recommended as a viable non-pharmacological strategy to minimize preoperative anxiety and foster a more positive perioperative experience for pediatric patients.

Abstract

Tuberculosis or TB is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. One of the Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs (OAT) is Rifampicin, Isoniazid (INH), Pirazinamid, and Ethambutol. Pirazinamid, and Ethambutol are types of OATs that are able to increase acid levels but their use for a long time can pose some risk of side effects in patients such as impaired liver function. Gout is a normal compound in the final stages of purine metabolism in the body. The purpose of this study is to find out the description of uric acid levels in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis who consume anti-tuberculosis drugs based on gender, age, and length of time consuming tuberculosis drugs at the Sekip Palembang Health Center in 2025. This study is a descriptive research, with a sample of 31 samples using the total sampling technique. The examination was carried out using the Point Of Care Testing (POCT) method. The results of the study of 31 people with tuberculosis who consumed OAT as many as 18 people (58%) had high uric acid levels. Based on male gender, 12 people (57%) had high uric acid levels. Meanwhile, 6 people (60%) had high uric acid levels. Based on the age of the adolescent group of 1 person (100%) high uric acid levels, the adult group of 8 people (67%) of high uric acid levels, the middle-aged youth group of 4 people (36%) of high uric acid levels, then the old adult group of 5 people (71%) of high uric acid levels. Based on the length of time of consuming anti-tuberculosis drugs in the early phase of treatment, 14 people (93%) had high uric acid levels. Meanwhile, the advanced phase treatment was 4 people (25%) with high uric acid levels. Recommended to pulmonary tuberculosis patients who consume OAT to reduce the consumption of foods high in purine and regularly check uric acid levels during treatment.

Abstract

Health literacy has a statistically significant relationship with education level. In general, university students experience higher psychological stress than non-students, which can have a negative impact on their lifestyle and unhealthy eating patterns, such as sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and fast food. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between health literacy and patterns of SSB and fast food consumption among college students. This study used an observational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The statistical test used is logistic regression. Respondents with good health literacy were 49.3% less likely to consume excessive SSBs than students with low health literacy (OR = 0.507; p<0.001). Similar with fast food consumption behavior, respondents with good health literacy tended to be 7% less likely to consume excessive amounts of fast food (OR = 0.93; p>0.05). This study reveals that good health literacy can reduce the likelihood of students consuming excessive amounts of SSBs and fast food, although not significantly for fast food, through behavioral control and intention.

Abstract

Background: Mothers play a primary role in their children’s oral health behavior and outcomes. Broader research is needed to evaluate the correlation between maternal caries and children's caries to help determine suitable education. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the correlation between maternal caries and their children’s caries aged 4-7 years. Methods: This study uses a correlation design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 305 mothers and their children were involved as respondents from seven kindergartens in Bukittinggi City, West Sumatra. The caries evaluation was measured using the DMFT score for the mother and the deft score for the children. The dental caries status was assessed using clinical oral examination form to calculate the DMFT index in mothers and deft in children as numerical variables presented as mean and standard deviation (SD). The correlation analysis test was performed to prove the strength of correlation. Results: The mean maternal DMF index was 11.526 ± 6.178, while the mean children deft index was 7.345 ± 4.609. Although the maternal caries experience was higher, the correlation between maternal and child caries scores was very weak and not statistically significant (r = 0.105; p = 0.112). The findings suggest that maternal caries alone may not as strong predictor of caries in children. Conclusion: The correlation between maternal caries and children’s caries is very weak and poses an indirect influence on caries in children. Strengthening maternal oral health education and promoting preventive dental care are essential strategies for improving children’s oral health outcomes.

Abstract

Anxiety is a psychological problem commonly experienced by the elderly, especially those living in nursing homes due to environmental changes, limited activities, and reduced social support. Untreated anxiety can negatively affect physical health, psychological well-being, and quality of life. Therefore, safe, simple, and easy-to-apply non-pharmacological interventions are needed, such as a combination therapy of butterfly hug and nature sound. This study aimed to determine the effect of the combination therapy of butterfly hug and nature sound on anxiety scores among the elderly. The study was conducted on December 16–22, 2025, at Welas Asih Nursing Home, Tasikmalaya Regency. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 38 elderly participants selected using the total sampling technique. Anxiety levels were measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Data analysis used the Paired t-test to determine differences in anxiety scores before and after the intervention. The results showed that the average anxiety score before the intervention was 25.63 and decreased to 18.53 after the combination therapy of butterfly hug and nature sound was administered. Statistical analysis showed a p-value < 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of the combination therapy on reducing anxiety scores among the elderly. This therapy can be recommended as a non-pharmacological intervention to improve psychological well-being and quality of life among elderly individuals in nursing homes.

Abstract

Nurses' motivation in working is for achievement, power, and affiliation, in addition to financial needs. Nurses' motivation for patient safety has not been evaluated and is still inconsistently implemented. During surgical procedures, patients still use personal items that pose a risk of infection, cotton or gauze is left behind, and many other post-surgical incidents occur due to negligence. Therefore, the consistency of nurses' motivation, particularly in maintaining patient safety during surgical procedures, needs to be evaluated. This study aims to analyze the relationship between perioperative nurses' work motivation based on McClelland's theory and the implementation of 6 patient safety goals at Karsa Husada Batu Regional Hospital. This study used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample was all 37 perioperative nurses (Operating Room and Edelweiss Room A) at Karsa Husada Batu Regional Hospital. Data analysis used the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results of the statistical test showed a significant relationship between perioperative nurses' work motivation and the implementation of 6 patient safety goals (p-value = 0.001; r = 0.541). The relationship is classified as moderate with a positive direction, meaning that the higher the nurse's work motivation, the better the implementation of the 6 patient safety goals. The contribution of research in the field of nursing, particularly in the perioperative area, is to provide information that the implementation of the 6 patient safety goals requires high motivation for nurses to be consistent in their implementation. The work motivation of perioperative nurses must be continuously improved, one way of which is by referring to McClelland's theory. High awareness is needed in monitoring patient safety and it is necessary to improve the competence of nursing staff in a program to implement good practices through training and ensuring nurses' compliance with patient safety standards.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem affecting children's growth, cognitive development, and human resource quality. Maternal knowledge is a key factor in stunting prevention through appropriate feeding and child-rearing practices. This study aimed to analyze the association between maternal knowledge and stunting incidence in children under five at Puskesmas Sepatan, Tangerang Regency, and to quantify the adjusted risk through multivariate analysis while controlling for confounders. A case-control design was used with 80 respondents (40 stunting cases and 40 non-stunting controls) drawn from the same source population and selected purposively. Data were collected through structured interviews using a validated questionnaire and height-for-age measurements based on WHO standards. Bivariate analysis used the Chi-square test and multivariate analysis used binary logistic regression with backward elimination and confounding assessment. Bivariate results showed a significant association between maternal knowledge and stunting (p=0.001); the proportion of mothers with poor knowledge was higher in the case group (62.5%) than the control group (25.0%). Multivariate modeling, controlling for maternal education and maternal age as confounders, showed that mothers with poor knowledge had a 7.93-fold higher risk of having a stunted child (adjusted OR=7.93; 95% CI: 2.36–26.55; p<0.001). The model yielded a Nagelkerke R Square of 0.381 and was declared fit (Hosmer-Lemeshow p=0.761). Maternal knowledge is the modifiable determinant most strongly associated with stunting. Improving maternal knowledge through continuous nutrition counseling at the health center should be prioritized as a stunting prevention strategy
