Abstract

This study aims to analyze the added value resulting from processing Kappaphycus sp seaweed into Alkaline Treated Cottonii (ATC) and to evaluate the economic aspects of the process. The ATC processing process is carried out through boiling seaweed with a solution of potassium hydroxide (KOH) at a temperature of 80–85°C for two hours, followed by washing, cutting, and drying. The results of the study showed that the processing of dried seaweed into ATC produced an added value of Rp 67,000 per kilogram of dried seaweed, with a total added value for 100 kg of seaweed reaching Rp 7,210,000. This added value reflects a significant increase in the selling price of processed products compared to the sale of seaweed in raw form. Financial analysis showed a gross profit of IDR 5,900,000, with a break-even point reached in the production of around 28.45 kg of ATC. This study concludes that processing seaweed into ATC not only increases the economic value of the product, but also opens up opportunities for product diversification such as pure carrageenan which is in great demand in the international market. Therefore, processing seaweed into ATC can provide great economic benefits for coastal communities and can improve the welfare of business actors through the added value produced. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of different stocking densities on the growth and survival of striped catfish (Pangasius sp.) fry reared in hapa net enclosures at the Central Fish Hatchery (BBIS) Noekele, Kupang Regency. The study employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three different stocking densities: 90, 120, and 150 fish per hapa, each replicated three times. The observed parameters included survival rate, absolute weight gain, absolute length gain, and water quality (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and ammonia). Data were analyzed using ANOVA to assess the significance of differences among treatments, followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test if significant differences were found. The results showed that different stocking densities had a significant effect on the survival and growth of catfish fry. ANOVA results indicated that stocking density had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on survival rate, but not on absolute weight gain or absolute length gain. The density of 90 fish per hapa yielded the best results, with higher survival rates, weight gain, and length gain compared to the densities of 120 and 150 fish per hapa. This condition suggests that at lower densities, competition for oxygen, space, and feed is reduced, thereby supporting more optimal growth. Therefore, a stocking density of 90 fish per hapa is recommended as an effective cultivation strategy to enhance the performance of catfish fry in the region. Abstract

This study aims to identify the types and densities of phytoplankton at different depths in the pearl oyster (Pinctada maxima) aquaculture area at the Marine Aquaculture Center, Lombok. The research was conducted from August to October 2024. Water samples were collected from three stations at three depth points: surface, near the pocket, and bottom. A total of 38 genera from 10 phytoplankton classes were identified, with Bacillariophyceae being the most dominant. The highest density was found at the bottom of Station 2 (3400 ind/L), indicating nutrient accumulation. Depth significantly affected phytoplankton distribution more than spatial location. These results provide ecological information supporting sustainable aquaculture. Keywords: Bacillariophyceae, phytoplankton, depth, density, pearl oysters.

Abstract

This study was carried out to analyze the growth differences of K. alvarezii at different depths, to identify the environmental factors that affect the growth of K. alvarezii at these depths, and to determine the best depth that provides optimal growth results for K. alvarezii at the research site. This research was carried out for 45 days which took place in the waters of Rote Bay, Lenaoen Beach. The method used in this study is an experimental method and the experimental design used is Complete Random Design (RAL) with 3 treatments and 3 replicates, P1 = Seaweed cultivation on the surface with a depth of 20 cm, P2 = Seaweed cultivation on the surface with a depth of 60 cm, and P3 = Seaweed cultivation on the surface with a depth of 100 cm. In this study, the test material used was Kappaphycus alvarezii seaweed with an initial weight of 100 grams and using the longline cultivation method. The parameters tested in this study are growth parameters and environmental parameters. The results showed that the depth of cultivation had a significant influence on the absolute growth of K. alvarezii in the waters of Rote Bay where the highest absolute growth was achieved at a depth of 20 cm with a value of 828 g, followed by a depth of 60 cm of 667 g, and a depth of 100 cm of 545 g. Environmental conditions at a depth of 20 cm, including the optimal temperature (29.5°C), Salinity (32.1 ppt), high light intensity (about 28,000 lux), and supportive current velocity (20.5 cm/s), strongly support photosynthesis and metabolism processes, thereby accelerating biomass accumulation. In contrast, at deeper depths, decreased light intensity, lower temperatures, and slower currents inhibit growth rates. Therefore, the selection of the right cultivation depth is crucial to maximize the productivity of K. alvarezii and support the sustainability of cultivation businesses in Rote Bay. Abstract

Carp (Cyprinus carpio) is a freshwater fishery commodity that has significant economic value and high development prospects. This species is widely cultivated due to increasing market demand, thus offering great opportunities for development in intensive and semi-intensive cultivation systems. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replicates. The parameters measured included survival rate (SR) and growth. Survival rate data were statistically analyzed at a predetermined significance level and followed by a BNT test according to the Steel and Torrie method. The results showed that the administration of spurge extract (Euphorbia hirta L.) did not have a significant effect on the survival rate of carp (Cyprinus carpio). The administration of spurge extract (Euphorbia hirta L.) at a concentration of 12.5 mg/L resulted in an average value of 80%. In comparison, the administration of a 25 mg/L concentration of Euphorbia hirta L. extract resulted in an average value of 93.33%. The administration of 37.5 mg/L of Euphorbia hirta L. extract resulted in an average value of 86.66%. Based on this presentation, it can be said that Euphorbia hirta L. extract affects the survival of carp (Cyprinus carpio).

Abstract

Budikdamber has emerged as a practical food-production strategy for urban areas with limited land resources, making it necessary to examine how stocking density influences the growth performance and survival of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) cultured under this system. This study was conducted from June to August 2024 at the Aquaculture Field Laboratory, Universitas Nusa Cendana. The experiment employed a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of three treatments with three replicates each: A (20 fish per container), B (30 fish per container), and C (40 fish per container). The evaluated parameters included survival rate, weight gain, and absolute length growth. The statistical analysis indicated that stocking density had a significant effect on survival (P<0.05), with treatment A achieving the highest survival rate of 100%. In contrast, no significant differences were detected for weight and length growth among treatments (P>0,05), although lower densities tended to support slightly better growth. Overall, the budikdamber system maintained stable water quality and supported satisfactory fish performance when stocking density was managed appropriately.
