Abstract

The implementation of this community service aims to improve secondary school mathematics teachers’ creative thinking skills by fostering a more creative, innovative learning process. The method of this community service consists of problem analysis, coordination, and obtaining permission from schools, and socializing materials related to improving character and creative thinking through interactive and innovative approaches. The results of the activity show an increase in teachers’ creative thinking through a participatory approach in this community service program, as reviewed under the aspects of innovation, “flexibility of ideas” and “originality of ideas”. The percentage increase in the innovative character of teachers’ creative thinking is 87.5% (very good criteria). The percentage increase in the “flexibility of ideas” aspect is 81.24% (very good criterion). The percentage increase in the “originality of ideas” criterion is 84.37% (very good). Overall, the community service program aimed at improving teachers’ creative thinking through a participatory approach is running well. This program aligns with character education that is already innovative, effective, and creative. The implication of this community service program is the improvement of creative thinking characteristics in teachers through a participatory approach to being able to create an effective, innovative, and sustainable learning environment.

Abstract

Management of household plastic waste in urban areas needs to be directed at source reduction, not just final disposal. In Jatimulyo Village, Malang City, used drinking water gallons have the potential to become a greening medium, but the practice of sorting, reuse, and collective management has not yet been established. This community developed and evaluated the Jatimulyo GallonCycle Model, a community-based circular economy framework integrating waste mapping, circular economy literacy, co-design, technical transformation, and sustainability monitoring to convert used drinking-water gallons into urban greening assets for confined spaces.. Using a Participatory Action Research approach, the activity involved 30 participants from residents, neighborhood associations (RT/RW), the Family Welfare Movement (PKK), youth organizations (karang taruna), and environmental groups through waste mapping, circular economy education, co-design, technical workshops, implementation, evaluation, and reflection. The intervention significantly improved participants' circular economy literacy, with the mean score increasing from 69.22 to 75.09 (an 8.48% improvement; p < .001, Cohen's dz = 1.44). In addition, 50 used drinking-water gallons were transformed into 40 urban greening products installed at 12 community locations, while 86.7% of participants committed to maintaining the products after the program. This study demonstrates a measurable community empowerment model that combines household waste reduction, citizen participation, and urban greening, providing a replicable framework for other urban communities facing similar environmental challenges.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) represent a growing public health burden globally and nationally, highlighting the need for community-based preventive interventions. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a health education program in improving knowledge of NCD prevention among housewives in Serang Regency, Banten. A one-group pre-test–post-test design was conducted among 29 housewives recruited from a religious study group in Bulakan Village, Serang Regency, in January 2026. The intervention consisted of a mini-lecture supported by visual presentations on NCD risk factors and healthy lifestyle practices, complemented by blood pressure screening to promote early detection of hypertension and increase participants' awareness of their health status. Knowledge was assessed using structured pre- and post-test questionnaires, and the results were analyzed descriptively by comparing participants' knowledge levels before and after the intervention. Before the intervention, 46% of participants had poor knowledge, while only 18% demonstrated very good knowledge. After the intervention, the proportion of participants with very good knowledge increased to 69%, representing a 51-percentage-point improvement, while the proportion with poor knowledge decreased from 46% to 13%, a reduction of 33 percentage points. The blood pressure screening also enabled participants to recognize their current blood pressure status and reinforced the importance of routine health monitoring as part of NCD prevention. In conclusion, community-based mini-lecture health education combined with blood pressure screening effectively improved knowledge of NCD prevention and strengthened community awareness of early NCD risk detection. Empowering housewives as family health decision-makers can support sustainable community-based health promotion initiatives, including the Healthy Living Community Movement (GERMAS).

Abstract

The growing prevalence of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension and diabetes mellitus, is closely associated with modifiable cardiometabolic risk factors, including obesity, unhealthy dietary behaviors, and physical inactivity. Early detection and improved health literacy are essential to reducing the burden of these conditions. This community service program evaluated the effectiveness of an integrated health education and screening intervention in improving health knowledge and identifying cardiometabolic risk factors among community participants. A one-group pretest–posttest design was implemented with 40 participants. The intervention combined educational sessions on hypertension, diabetes, obesity, healthy nutrition, and physical activity with health screening, including blood pressure, random blood glucose, body weight, height, and body mass index assessments. Program effectiveness was assessed by comparing pre- and post-intervention knowledge scores. Participants’ mean knowledge score increased significantly from 68.95 ± 14.73 to 77.50 ± 14.68 (p < 0.001), indicating improved health literacy following the intervention. Health screening further identified a considerable proportion of participants with overweight or obesity, hypertension, and elevated blood glucose levels, highlighting the need for early preventive measures. These findings demonstrate that integrating community-based health education with routine cardiometabolic screening is an effective strategy for enhancing health literacy while facilitating the early detection of NCD risk factors. The intervention provides a practical and scalable model for strengthening community-based NCD prevention and promoting long-term public health outcomes.

Abstract

Digital The rapid digitalization of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) has increased exposure to cyber threats, while limited cybersecurity literacy remains a major challenge for business sustainability. This community service program developed and evaluated a contextual cybersecurity mentoring model designed to strengthen digital security awareness and practices among MSME owners in Lhokseumawe, Indonesia. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, the program integrated needs assessment, cybersecurity education, hands-on training, and continuous mentoring tailored to the actual cyber risks faced by MSMEs. Sixty MSME operators under the Rumah BUMN Lhokseumawe participated in the program. Effectiveness was assessed using pre- and post-test instruments and analyzed through paired-sample t-tests and normalized gain (N-Gain). The results demonstrated a significant improvement in participants’ cybersecurity literacy, with mean scores increasing from 41.45 before the intervention to 93.25 afterward (p < 0.001). The N-Gain score of 0.876 indicated a high level of learning effectiveness. Participants also showed substantial improvements in cybersecurity knowledge, digital security practices, and risk awareness, enhancing their capacity to prevent cyber threats and strengthen business resilience. The findings demonstrate that an adaptive, participatory, and locally contextualized mentoring model is an effective strategy for improving cybersecurity literacy among MSMEs. This model provides a scalable framework for supporting secure digital transformation and can be replicated in MSME empowerment initiatives across other regions.

Abstract

Rat infestations remain a major challenge affecting rice productivity in rural agricultural areas. This community service program aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge and technical skills in implementing a solar-powered ultrasonic pest repellent equipped with an automatic light sensor as a safer and more environmentally friendly alternative for rat control. The program involved 15 representatives of the Sekar Murni Farmers’ Group in Semawot Village, Bojonegoro Regency, and was conducted through observation, outreach, hands-on training, and evaluation using pre-test, post-test, and participant satisfaction questionnaires. The average participant score increased from 53.2 to 86.6, with an N-Gain of 71.3%, indicating a high level of knowledge improvement. During field implementation, the device operated reliably under actual rice field conditions, and farmers informally reported reduced rat activity around the installation area, although these observations were not quantitatively verified. Participants also expressed positive acceptance of the technology because of its ease of operation and environmental safety. The integration of solar energy and automatic day-and-night operation distinguishes this program from previous community service initiatives. Overall, the program improved farmers’ knowledge, encouraged initial technology adoption, and demonstrated the potential of sustainable pest management to support agricultural productivity.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to empower residents of Attangsalo Village, Ma'rang Subdistrict, Pangkep Regency, to convert locally abundant rice husk and pomelo peel waste into bio-briquettes as an alternative renewable energy source. The program was implemented through four stages: preliminary field assessment, community education, hands-on training, and program evaluation. A distinctive feature of this initiative was the integration of two underutilized agricultural wastes into a community-based renewable energy solution, promoting both waste valorization and environmental sustainability. Program effectiveness was evaluated using pre-test and post-test questionnaires, direct observation, and participant interviews. The average knowledge score increased from 49% in the pre-test to 100% in the post-test, while more than 90% of participants successfully produced functional bio-briquettes independently following the training. Participants also demonstrated improved technical skills and expressed strong interest in adopting the technology for household use and small-scale enterprises. Overall, the program enhanced community capacity in agricultural waste management, promoted renewable energy awareness, and created opportunities for sustainable local economic development through bio-briquette production.
