Abstract

Introduction: Stunting remains a serious public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas. Objective: This community service activity aims to examine and analyze the development of stunting cases in Waru Village, Mranggen Subdistrict, Demak Regency. One of the main contributing factors to stunting is the lack of knowledge and self-confidence among mothers of toddlers, which leads many of them to avoid visiting the local health post (posyandu). Method: The approach used in this activity is the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, involving observation, socialization, training on stunting and balanced nutrition, as well as facilitating two-way dialogue with posyandu cadres, midwives, and mothers of toddlers. Result: The results showed a decrease in stunting cases, marked by an increase in the mothers' self-confidence, knowledge, and awareness of the importance of proper nutrition and parenting practices. Conclusion: The success of this program shows that a direct, participatory, and diverse communication approach is able to provide education on nutrition and early prevention of stunting. Counseling that is carried out consistently and touches on various aspects of community life has proven effective in changing the mindset and behavior of parents, especially in terms of providing nutritional intake, monitoring child growth and development, and utilizing health services available in the village.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a noncommunicable disease with a high prevalence among the elderly and can increase the risk of morbidity and mortality. This condition is a major concern because it can seriously affect the quality of life of the elderly and increase the risk of cardiovascular complications. Nonpharmacological therapy with slow deep breathing can improve blood flow in hypertensive patients with impaired blood flow, thereby lowering blood pressure. Objective: This study aims to improve the knowledge and skills of older adults in performing SDB therapy to control blood pressure. Method: The method used in this activity was education through lectures, demonstrations, and SDB training with a one group pretest-posttest design. A total of 31 elderly people participated in this activity. Result: The results showed a decrease in average systolic blood pressure before and after the intervention from 150.74 mmHg to 147.45 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure from 89.23 mmHg to 84.81 mmHg. In addition, most participants showed an improvement in their ability to perform slow deep breathing correctly. Conclusion: Education and training in slow deep breathing have been shown to have a positive impact on lowering blood pressure and increasing the independence of older adults in managing hypertension.

Abstract

Abstract   Introduction: Dental caries is one of the most common oral health problems among elementary school-aged children, both globally and in Indonesia, including in areas like Bandar Lampung. The high prevalence of caries is influenced by various factors, such as poor oral hygiene, consumption of sugary foods, and improper or irregular toothbrushing habits. The lack of education and supervision from parents and schools also exacerbates this condition. Therefore, promotive and preventive efforts are needed, including education on proper tooth brushing from an early age. Elementary schools are a strategic place to instill the habit of brushing through a fun and interactive approach. Educational interventions by health workers, particularly nurses, are crucial for increasing children's knowledge and skills in maintaining dental health, thereby reducing the incidence of tooth decay and improving their overall quality of life. Objective: To provide direct education and training on correct tooth brushing techniques in accordance with dental and oral health standards. Method: The method of this activity is carried out using lecture, discussion, demonstration and question and answer methods. Result: This activity was successfully implemented, involving 75 students who participated in the community service program. Education regarding tooth decay prevention had a significant impact, as the students learned how to brush their teeth properly, the appropriate time to brush, and what foods to avoid to prevent tooth decay Conclusion: The results of the evaluation given to participants showed an increase in knowledge and skills in the right time and technique for brushing their teeth.

Abstract

Introduction: Uric acid is a metabolic byproduct in the human body that must remain within normal limits to prevent adverse health effects. Elevated uric acid levels, known as hyperuricemia, are a major risk factor for gout or gouty arthritis, a form of rheumatic disease affecting the joints. This condition can impact not only the elderly but also individuals of productive age. Objective : To increase public awareness about the dangers of elevated uric acid levels and promote healthy lifestyle practices, including dietary management and physical activity, as preventive strategies against gout and related complications. Method : This awareness program involved nutrition counseling sessions focusing on purine-restricted diets, risk factor education, and lifestyle modification. Counseling materials were supported by evidence from medical literature and adapted for community understanding. Physical activity promotion included introducing regular exercise and aerobic routines as part of the daily schedule. The target audience was the general adult population, including those at risk for hyperuricemia. Result : Participants demonstrated increased knowledge regarding uric acid management, dietary risk factors, and the importance of regular exercise. Many reported positive changes in food choices and incorporation of physical activity into daily routines. Anecdotal feedback indicated greater motivation to maintain healthy habits and seek further medical advice when needed. Conclusion: Hyperuricemia poses significant health risks, including gout and cardiovascular complications. Nutrition counseling, combined with promotion of regular physical activity, is an effective strategy to improve community awareness and encourage sustainable lifestyle changes.

Abstract

Introduction: The transition from adolescence to adulthood can lead to various emotional problems. Psychological issues in adolescents may include violent and spontaneous behavior, lack of focus, reduced interest in activities, symptoms of depression, and anxiety, often manifested in self-harming behavior. Adolescents, including those in the Muhammadiyah Youth Organization (Angkatan Muda Muhammadiyah), are also vulnerable to these problems despite the expectation to maintain good physical and psychological health. Therefore, preventive efforts are needed to address self-harm behavior using non-psychopharmacological approaches such as individual psychotherapy, namely Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) and affirmations. Objective: To help overcome mental health problems in adolescents and prevent self-harm behavior through a psychotherapy program Method: The program was carried out in three stages: preparation through a pretest to assess adolescents’ anxiety, depression, and self-esteem; implementation of 45-minute therapy sessions using deep breathing, five-finger hypnosis, and butterfly hug affirmation techniques; and evaluation through a posttest using standardized questionnaires (HADS for anxiety and depression, and RSES for self-esteem). Data were analyzed descriptively to assess changes before and after the intervention. A psychotherapy program was implemented for 25 adolescents. The intervention consisted of 4 sessions, each lasting 45–60 minutes, conducted over a period of 1 month. The techniques used were SEFT and affirmations. Result: The program showed an increase in adolescents’ knowledge and psychomotor skills related to implementing psychotherapy when comparing pre- and post-training outcomes. Conclusion: This program is recommended as a preventive effort to address mental health problems and reduce the risk of self-harm behavior in adolescents.
