Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis struktur teks editorial yang ditulis oleh siswa kelas XII pada mata pelajaran Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada tiga permasalahan utama, yaitu bentuk struktur teks editorial yang diterapkan siswa, ketepatan penggunaan unsur-unsur struktur teks, serta berbagai kesalahan yang muncul dalam penulisan struktur tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan mengumpulkan teks editorial karya siswa, mengidentifikasi komponen struktur seperti tesis, argumentasi, dan penegasan ulang, serta menilai kesesuaiannya dengan kaidah penulisan teks editorial yang standar. Data diuraikan melalui klasifikasi, reduksi, dan interpretasi temuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun sebagian besar siswa mampu menampilkan komponen struktur dasar, banyak di antara mereka yang kesulitan menyusun argumentasi yang koheren dan menjaga alur logistik antarbagian. Kesalahan yang sering ditemukan meliputi tesis yang kurang lengkap, argumentasi yang lemah atau tidak didukung data, serta penegasan ulang yang tidak memperkuat gagasan utama. Temuan ini menunjukkan perlunya strategi pembelajaran yang lebih eksplisit dalam penguasaan struktur teks editorial untuk meningkatkan kemampuan analitis dan ekspresif siswa. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya pemahaman siswa terhadap struktur yang ketat untuk meningkatkan kualitas penulisan teks editorial.

Abstract

Pendirian (distance) dalam percakapan penyidikan merupakan konstruksi linguistik yang mengungkap bagaimana tersangka memposisikan diri terhadap informasi, tuduhan, dan kerangka wacana yang dibangun oleh penyidik. Penelitian ini menganalisis pendirian tersangka dalam percakapan penyidikan tindak pidana umum melalui kerangka Appraisal System (Martin & White, 2005), khususnya subsistem engagement. Data penelitian bersumber dari transkrip percakapan penyidikan kasus penipuan dan penggelapan yang berlangsung di Ditreskrimum Polda Sulawesi Selatan pada 19 Oktober 2022. Sebanyak 27 penggunaan pendirian (distance) diidentifikasi dan diklasifikasikan ke dalam empat sistem pemosisian: menyangkal, menyatakan, menerima, dan merujuk. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa sistem pemosisian menerima mendominasi dengan 13 penggunaan, diikuti menyatakan (8), merujuk (4), dan menyangkal (2). Dominannya sistem menerima mengindikasikan bahwa tersangka menampilkan sikap kooperatif sekaligus submisif terhadap kerangka wacana penyidik, memperkuat teori asimetri interaksional dalam percakapan interogatif. Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa pendirian tersangka tidak hanya mencerminkan strategi linguistik, tetapi juga menunjukkan relasi kuasa, tekanan psikologis, dan persepsi risiko hukum yang melekat dalam percakapan penyidikan. Implikasi penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan standar etis interogasi, pelatihan linguistik forensik, serta penguatan perspektif keadilan prosedural dalam praktik penegakan hukum.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the teaching and learning process through the implementation of differentiated learning strategy for teaching speaking in the Merdeka Curriculum at a remote island school. Employing a case study design, data were collected through direct classroom observation. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, involving one English teacher and five eighth-grade students. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the teacher applied differentiation based on students’ readiness, interests, and learning profiles by using varied speaking tasks, contextual materials, and flexible grouping. Despite constraints such as limited technology, restricted instructional time, and lack of resources, the differentiated learning strategy fostered student engagement and improved speaking confidence. The results indicate that differentiated learning, when implemented responsively, can enhance inclusive and effective speaking instruction in remote educational settings.

Abstract

This study explores university lecturers’ perceptions and experiences in implementing the Critical Literacy Approach (CLA) in teaching Critical Reading within the context of Indonesian higher education. In contrast to most previous research that focused on students’ learning outcomes or curriculum design, this investigation centers on lecturers’ pedagogical agency and their contextual adaptations of CLA. Using a descriptive qualitative case study design, three lecturers from different universities participated in in-depth interviews and semester-long classroom observations. Thematic analysis revealed that lecturers’ entry into critical literacy emerged through distinct pathways: self-directed study, reflective classroom practice, and formal graduate education. These trajectories informed how each lecturer interpreted and modified CLA that ranging from integrating discourse analysis and media literacy to using literature for social critique. Despite methodological variations, all lecturers shared a strong commitment to cultivating students’ critical thinking and sociopolitical awareness. However, the implementation was not without challenges: emotional discomfort around sensitive topics, student disengagement, and limited instructional time frequently emerged. Even so, the lecturers employed adaptive strategies to sustain dialogue and scaffold critical reflection. These findings highlight that effective CLA practice depends not only on theoretical understanding but also on emotional intelligence, contextual sensitivity, and institutional support. By foregrounding lecturers’ voices, this study contributes a practice-oriented perspective on critical literacy, urging a reorientation of research and policy to recognize educators as key agents of critical pedagogy in Indonesian higher education.

Abstract

English has become the lingua franca in international business negotiations, which means that English persuasive communication is an important element for decision making. This study analyzes how English persuasive strategies shape negotiation outcomes, identifies key linguistic and pragmatic elements that contribute to negotiation success, and explores contextual factors that influence communicative effectiveness in various business settings. Adopting a descriptive qualitative literature review, this paper synthesizes insights derived from international studies on communication, negotiation and business English. The results indicate that the ability to structure logical arguments, present data-driven claims, use culturally sensitive discourse strategies, and manage interpersonal rapport in English significantly enhances negotiation effectiveness. In digital negotiation contexts, communicative clarity and adaptability become even more essential due to the reduced availability of non-verbal cues. Mastery of English persuasive communication not only improves agreement quality but also strengthens long-term business relationships and supports organizational competitiveness in global markets.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menafsirkan relasi antara laut, identitas, dan ekologi budaya dalam sastra Bugis–Makassar melalui pendekatan ekokritik biru (blue ecocriticism). Kajian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif-deskriptif dengan pendekatan hermeneutik-ekologis, yang menempatkan laut bukan hanya sebagai latar naratif, melainkan sebagai entitas epistemologis dan spiritual dalam konstruksi budaya pesisir. Data penelitian meliputi tiga jenis teks utama yang merepresentasikan kontinuitas estetika maritim, yaitu teks klasik Sureq Galigo, syair lisan elong pabbali-bali, serta puisi kontemporer pesisir seperti “Puisi Nelayan Makassar” karya Rahman Arge dan “Ombak Tak Pernah Diam” karya Syamsul Bahri. Analisis dilakukan dengan memadukan teori metafora konseptual untuk menafsirkan hubungan timbal balik antara manusia dan lingkungan pesisir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa laut dalam tradisi Bugis–Makassar berfungsi sebagai sumber nilai ekologis, etika, dan spiritual, yang membentuk pandangan hidup masyarakat pesisir tentang keseimbangan dan keberlanjutan. Laut tidak hanya hadir sebagai ruang geografis, tetapi juga sebagai “guru ekologis” yang mengajarkan harmoni antara manusia dan alam. Hasil kajian ini memperkaya pengembangan teori sastra ekologis dengan menempatkan laut sebagai aktor epistemologis dalam kerangka blue humanities Nusantara. Temuan ini sekaligus berkontribusi terhadap penguatan wacana dekolonisasi teori sastra Indonesia yang berpijak pada ekologi budaya pesisir dan memperluas horizon penelitian sastra berbasis kearifan lokal maritim.

Abstract

This study investigates how moral values are represented in the Bahasa Indonesia Kawan Seiring textbook for Grade 3 primary schools, published by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (2022). Beyond its role in literacy development, the textbook functions as a curricular artefact through which children internalize moral and civic values aligned with Indonesia’s Profil Pelajar Pancasila. The study employs a qualitative multimodal critical discourse analysis (MCDA), integrating Martin and White’s (2005) Appraisal framework with Kress and van Leeuwen’s (2006) Visual Grammar. The corpus consists of eight textbook chapters containing dialogues, narratives, teacher prompts, illustrations, and reflective activities. Segments with moral orientations were identified, coded into value categories (e.g., helpfulness, politeness, tolerance, responsibility, creativity, diversity), and tabulated. Verbal texts were examined for evaluative stance (affect, judgment, appreciation), while visual texts were analyzed for ideational, interpersonal, and textual meanings. Each value was then mapped against the six dimensions of the Profil Pelajar Pancasila. Findings show that the most salient values are helpfulness, politeness, and tolerance, followed by responsibility, respect, and creativity. These values are linguistically realized through softened imperatives Apakah kamu perlu bantuanku?, affective expressions of empathy, and visually through egalitarian compositions that emphasize cooperation and inclusion. By situating morality in everyday contexts—traditional games, classroom activities, family collaboration, and digital practices—the textbook presents values as lived experiences rather than abstract doctrines. The study contributes to scholarship on textbook-mediated moral education in non-Western contexts and provides practical insights for teachers and policymakers. Kawan Seiring illustrates a hybrid pedagogy that integrates traditional norms with emerging priorities such as digital citizenship and global mindedness, positioning children as both moral agents and future global citizens.

Abstract

Kontroversi tunjangan perumahan DPR tahun 2025 memicu krisis legitimasi nasional yang tidak hanya bersumber dari substansi kebijakan, tetapi terutama dari performativitas linguistik para legislator. Studi ini menganalisis bagaimana strategi retorika—normalisasi, minimisasi, dan legitimasi digunakan dalam ujaran publik anggota DPR, serta bagaimana strategi tersebut gagal ketika bertemu dengan ekologi media dan model mental publik. Menggunakan pendekatan Analisis Wacana Kritis (AWK) Fairclough yang dipadukan dengan model sosiokognitif van Dijk, penelitian ini mengkaji lima ujaran legislator yang viral, liputan media, serta artefak digital seperti meme, potongan video, komentar warganet, dan tagar kritik. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa pilihan leksikal seperti hanya, wajar, kompensasi, dan hak berfungsi menormalkan privilese namun justru dibaca publik sebagai arogansi moral di tengah krisis ekonomi. Media arus utama dan media sosial memperkuat delegitimasi melalui reframing, viralitas klip pendek, serta produksi satir dan meme yang menggeser makna dari entitlement menjadi greed. Pada level makro, wacana ini membentuk konflik simbolik antara elite dan rakyat, menempatkan DPR sebagai aktor yang tidak peka terhadap penderitaan publik. Analisis sosiokognitif memperlihatkan bahwa reaksi publik dipengaruhi oleh skema ketidakadilan, memori skandal politik, dan afek kolektif. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa legitimasi politik dalam era politik yang termediatisasi sangat ditentukan oleh kesesuaian antara bahasa elite dan model mental publik; ketika keduanya tidak selaras, delegitimasi multisitus muncul dengan cepat, viral, dan masif.

Abstract

This study investigates how undergraduate students conceptualise and articulate denotative and connotative meanings in Bugis, a major regional language in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Framed within semantic theory, cognitive linguistics, and Cultural Linguistics, the research responds to a gap in the literature that has largely focused on Bahasa Indonesia while overlooking regional languages as sites of semantic and cultural competence. Using a qualitative descriptive design supported by descriptive statistics, data were collected from written assignments completed by 11 first-year students in a language and literature education programme. Each student produced one denotative and one connotative Bugis sentence and provided written explanations of meaning. Responses were scored separately for denotative and connotative accuracy and analysed through thematic coding. Findings show that students exhibit near-perfect mastery of denotative meaning (M = 48.6/50), with highly consistent performance across participants. By contrast, connotative meaning (M = 46.8/50) reveals greater variability in depth, clarity, and cultural precision. Qualitative analysis identifies four interpretive patterns: reliance on familiar metaphors, emotional and relational focus, limited metalinguistic vocabulary, and strong influence of cultural familiarity. These results suggest that while literal semantic competence is well established, figurative competence remains uneven and deeply tied to cultural experience. The study argues that semantics teaching in teacher education should explicitly incorporate regional languages such as Bugis as rich semantic and cultural resources, foregrounding figurative language, metalanguage, and multilingual repertoires to strengthen future teachers’ ability to guide learners across literal and figurative levels of meaning.

Abstract

This study examines the types of speech acts in Henry Johnson's film (2025) using Austin's (1962) framework of locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts and Searle's (1969) classification of speech acts. This study employs a qualitative descriptive methodology to collect and analyze the film's dialogue, elucidating the pragmatic functions inherent in the characters' speech acts. The analysis stated that speech acts function as important tools in the process of negotiation, emotion management, trust building, and interpersonal dynamics between characters. In general, this study emphasized that the film Henry Johnson (2025) practices natural communication and demonstrates the power of language in establishing social relationships, creating psychological impressions, and directing systematic interactions. This study also shown how the specific medium of film can serve as a rich venue for representation to deepen understanding of pragmatic phenomena in socialization. Thus, the results of this study are expected to add insight into the role of speech acts in constructing meaning, conflict, and resolution in cinematographic works.
