Abstract

This research aims to find out the correlation between emotional intelligence and speaking performance. This research is quantitative research that uses the correlation as a method. The subject in this research is the second semester English education students at Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The instrument of this research is questionnaire and speaking test, the questionnaire used to know students’ emotional intelligence and speaking test used to know students’ speaking performance. The result of this research shows the significance value Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.312, because the significantly is higher than 0.05 (0.312 > 0.05), it can be concluded that there is no significant correlation between emotional intelligence and speaking performance (H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected) and also the researcher concluded that respondents have high emotional intelligence but very low correlation with speaking performance. It can be state that influential factor on speaking performance comes from linguistic problems.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to prove effectivenes of brainwriting learning model in teaching student writing, especially narrative text. This research used pre-experimental method. The population of this research was grade 3 students of UPT SMA NEGERI 5 LUWU TIMUR which was consisted of 3 classes, each class consisted 30-33 students. This research used purposive sampling. The sample of this research was 30 students of class XII MIA 1 and XII MIA 2. This research used SPSS 20 to analyze the data. The data was taken by used test. The result of this research showed that used Brainwriting Learning Model in teaching narrative text can improve students' narrative text skills. This is evidenced by seeing a significant difference between the mean scores of students in the pre-test and post-test. In the pre-test the mean score of the students was 42.23 and the mean score of the post-test was 63.67, it means that there was a significant increase between the pre-test and the post-test. The standard deviation of the pre-test value is 12.339 and the standard deviation of the post-test is 9.007. This shows that the mean post-test score is higher than the pre-test after treatment (42.23> 63.67). Then the significant test value of the T-test of 0.000 is calculated using SPSS, and the results of statistical analysis for the significant level (α) = 0.05 therefore the probability results are 0.000 <0.05, then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, it means that there is a significant increase between the pre-test and post-test results of students in narrative text using brainwriting learning model.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the types of code-mixing used by the lecturer in English class. This research used both Qualitative methods. The subject in this research is the lecturer and the first yearof science students at CokroaminotoPalopo University. The instruments of this research are observation sheet and recorder. The result of this research shows that there are three types of code-mixing found in the lecturer’s utterances during the English teaching-learning process. They are Intra sentential, intra lexical, and involve a change of pronunciation and the results showed that the most frequent is intra sentential.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas dua isu utama yaitu efek dimensi budaya (kolektivisme dan high-power distance) pada implementasi refleksi kolektif dan alternatif untuk memoderasi efek buruk budaya pada realisasi refleksi kolektif. Hasil investigasi literatur pada artikel ini mengungkapkan bahwa kolektivisme dan ­high-power distance memberikan dampak positif dan negatif terhadap realisasi refleksi kolektif. Kolektivisme berkontribusi menciptakan suasana dengan dorongan emosional yang kuat di kalangan guru. Namun, kolektivisme secara negatif berkontribusi pada keengganan untuk berkomentar dan dikomentari karena adanya rasa tanggung jawab untuk mencegah konflik. Kondisi ini dapat menyebabkan kurangnya kekritisan dan menghambat perubahan. Sehubungan dengan efek hig-power distance, terungkap bahwa refleksi kolektif dipengaruhi secara negatif. Serupa dengan efek negatif yang dihasilkan dari internalisasi kolektivisme, high-power distance juga mendorong keragu-raguan dalam berkomentar dan dikomentari. Selain itu, juga menimbulkan ketergantungan pada ahlinya, kurangnya kreativitas, dan kurangnya keinginan lebih. Untuk mengurangi efek negatif dari dimensi budaya, beberapa alternatif disarankan dalam artikel ini, yaitu mempertahankan Lesson Study (LS) dan Action Education (EA), secara eksplisit mengundang guru pemula untuk terlibat dalam tahap refleksi, dan mempromosikan refleksi yang berorientasi pada makna.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian, yaitu mendeskripsikan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi penggunaan model pembelajaran outbound dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis puisi siswa kelas VII-1 MTS YMPI Rappang Kabupaten Sidrap. Jenis penelitian ini adalah tindakan kelas (Class room action research). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan selama dua siklus yang terdiri atas empat tahap, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kelas VII-1 yang berjumlah 36 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data, yaitu observasi dan tes. Teknik analisis data yaitu deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) Perencanaan peningkatan kemampuan menulis puisi dengan penggunaan model pembelajaran outbound siswa kelas VII-1 MTS YMPI Rappang Kabupaten Sidrap terdiri atas: kolaborasi dengan guru menelaah kurikulum dan menentukan materi, menyusun RPP, menetapkan lokasi outbound yang memiliki nilai keindahan bagi siswa, merancang bentuk dan model kelompok, menyusun lembar observasi untuk mengamati proses belajar, dan menyusun model tes. Perencanaan ini berhasil disusun dengan baik sehingga keterampilan siswa menulis puisi meningkat. (2) Pelaksanaan pembelajaran selama dua siklus. Setiap siklus dilaksanakan selama empat kali pertemuan dengan alokasi wktu 2x40 menit. Setiap pertemuan memiliki tiga tahap, yaitu kegiatan awal, inti, dan akhir. Secara rinci kegiatan guru dalam pembelajaran yaitu (1) Menampilkan contoh kegiatan outbound dan melakukan outbound; (2) Menjelaskan isi kegiatan outbound; (3) Mengarahkan siswa dalam kelompok berdiskusi menyusun kata-kata (diksi); (4) Membimbing siswa menulis puisi. Setiap awal pertemuan dilakukan apersepsi dan setiap akhir pertemuan dilakukan refleksi. (3) Hasil penilaian pembelajaran menulis puisi siklus I dikategorikan cukup dengan nilai rata-rata 58.54 dan ketuntasan 13,88. Lalu meningkat pada siklus II menjadi kategori tinggi/ baik dengan nilai rata-rata 72,16 dan ketuntasan mencapai 97,22%.

Abstract

Students’ Interest in Learning English at the Third Semester Student of Health Faculty of Mega Buana University. How the students’ interest in learning English at the third semester students of Health Faculty of Mega Buana University? The objective of the research was found out the students’ interest in learning English at the third semester students of Health Faculty of Mega Buana University. The researcher applied purposive sampling technique in getting data because the sample data sources need special consideration. Special consideration here by taking the students that have good mean score in the class especially in English score. Based on the purposive sampling technique, the researcher’s subjects are 8 from 73 students in the classroom in Public Health Study Program Health Faculty. Based on the result the most important is their interest in learning English. They gave the positive response. For example their interest in learning English is very good, very interesting, very big and very strong. This situation can be seen from the observation and the result of the interview. They had big interest and big motivation when learn in the class they are always present. They said that English is very important especially in their study program

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan deskripsi hasil pembacaan secara reseptif mahasiswa PGSD Universitas Cokroaminoto Palopo terhadap puisi Hujan dan Perempuanku. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskripsi dengan subjek penelitian mahasiswa semester lima Program Studi PGSD. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil pembacaan secara reseptif yang dilakukan oleh 9 mahasiswa dengan dua judul puisi yang berbeda dengan pendekatan yang berbeda. Dari pendekatan ekspresif menjelaskan bahwa puisi hujan secara keseluruhan mengekspresikan pengalaman pengarang tentang rindu yang diekspresikan melalui hujan dan sebuah cerita yang tak pernah selesai. Dari sudut pandang semiotika memberikan gambaran bahwa puisi hujan adalah sistem tanda yang mewakili tanda lainnya. Puisi perempuan diapresiasi dengan menggunakan dua pendekatan, yakni stilistika dan femenisme. Penggunaan stilistika puisi perempuanku lebih kepada struktur teks puisi itu sendiri. Dari sudut pandang feminisme puisi “perempuanku representasi perempuan dalam teks dalam hal ini gambaran perempuan dalam kondisi kenyataan. Makna yang terungkap adalah perempuan kadang berbahaya, tidak lemah seperti yang digambarkan dalam konteks sosial.

Abstract

This research objectives is to find out the lecturers’ assertive speech acts in teaching English. The method used in this research is qualitative research method. The participant are the lecturers in English Eduation Study program of FKIP UKI Toraja. The instruments used to collect the data are interview and observation. The data analyzes by Miles and Huberman theory. The lecturers’ assertive speech acts in teaching English at English Education Study Program of FKIP UKI Toraja are are (1) Assetive used to explaining the material, evaluating the students, opening the class, and concluding the lesson. It is expressed directly and indirectly which function as statement and command. (2) Affirmative used to explaining the material, asking about the term, giving example, concluding the lesson and sharing experience. The utterances expressed directly and indirectly which functions as statement, question, command, and request. The syntactic forms are declarative and interrogative. (3) Informative used by the lecturer to explain the material in teaching and learning process. The utterance categorized as direct speech act which functions as statement.

Abstract

This research objective is to find out the creative teaching strategies implemented in teaching English to Young Language Learner. The method used in this research is qualitative research method. The participant is the teachers and young language learners or the children in Sunday School Jemaat Buntu Pasele Rantepao. The instruments used to collect the data are interview and observation. The data analyzes by Miles and Huberman theory. The creative teaching strategies implemented in teaching English to Young Language Learner at English tuition class at Sunday School Jemaat Buntu Pasele Rantepao are (1) Play games: memory games, Hangman, Simon Says and board games. (2) Use storytelling. (3) Use music and songs. (4) Used technology such as educational apps, videos, and interactive games to teach English vocabulary and grammar. (5) Make it interactive: role-plays, group discussions, and other activities that require the children to use English. The last is Sunday Meeting in the tourist object.

Abstract

Masalah utama dalam penelitian ini yaitu bagaimanakah Makna Simbol Pada Perayaa Jepe Syura di Pulau Barrang Lompo Kecamatan Sangkarrang Kota Makassar Pendekatan Semiotik. Penelitian ini bertujuaan untuk mengkaji informasi mengenai Makna Simbol pada Perayaan Jepe Syura di Pulau Barrang Lompo Kecamatan Sangkarrang Kota Makassar. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu jenis penelitian lapangan. Jenis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data kualitatif. Data kualitatif diperoleh berdasarkan data yang diteliti yang berkaitan dengan masalah yang menjadi fokus penelitian.Pengumpulan data peneliti ini dilakukan dengan teknik wawancara, simak catat, studi pustaka, dan dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian Makna Simbol Perayaan Jepe Syura di Pulau Barrang Lompo Kecamatan Sangkarrang Kota Makassar menggunakan Pendekatan Semiotik yang terdapat simbol benda dan simbol suasana pada Jepe Syura.
