Abstract

This research aims to examine how gender construction is represented and accepted by audiences through the TikTok social media platform, with a case study of Nathania Nasywa Iskandar's @brachiokoo account. Through a qualitative approach and case study method, this research analyzes the forms of gender performativity and fluidity displayed by Nathania Nasywa Iskandar, as well as how it elicits various reactions from her followers. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews, content observation, and analysis of comments that appeared on TikTok uploads. The results showed that the content triggered complex and diverse responses, ranging from support for non-binary gender expression to moralistic and stereotypical criticism. Most followers were appreciative, especially of the way Adis packaged gender expression messages through visual and humorous approaches. However, there are also those who express confusion or even stigma towards gender identities that are considered not in accordance with prevailing social norms. This research shows the importance of social media as a new arena for negotiating identity and challenging conventional gender boundaries.

Abstract

Fenomena hubungan jarak jauh (LDR) semakin umum di kalangan pasangan Generasi Z, yang sering menghadapi tantangan dalam mempertahankan kepercayaan dan kedekatan emosional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi strategi pengurangan ketidakpastian yang digunakan oleh pasangan Generasi Z dalam mempertahankan hubungan LDR mereka. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Mulawarman yang sedang menjalani LDR. Informan dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling, menghasilkan lima narasumber yang memberikan wawasan mendalam tentang pengalaman mereka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pasangan Generasi Z menerapkan tiga jenis strategi pengurangan ketidakpastian: strategi pasif, aktif, dan interaktif. Strategi pasif meliputi pengamatan perilaku pasangan melalui media sosial, sedangkan strategi aktif berkaitan dengan komunikasi langsung untuk mendapatkan klarifikasi. Strategi interaktif, yang paling efektif, melibatkan penggunaan video call untuk menjaga kedekatan emosional. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa faktor-faktor seperti kepercayaan dan penggunaan teknologi berperan penting dalam mengurangi ketidakpastian dalam hubungan.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the symbolic meanings embedded in the Tetomeh ritual and how these symbols are constructed and interpreted by the people of Sintong Village through social interaction. The symbolic interactionism theory is used to examine both verbal and nonverbal communication within the ritual, including chants, prayers, and bodily expressions performed by the shaman as an intermediary between humans and supernatural entities. A qualitative research method with a communication ethnography approach is applied, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that the symbols in the Tetomeh ritual function not only as tools for healing but also as a medium for cultural transmission that reinforces the relationship between humans, nature, and the spiritual realm. This ritual plays a significant role in preserving traditional values and strengthening social bonds within the Sintong Village community.

Abstract

The development of modern marketing, influenced by advances in information technology and changes in consumer lifestyles, poses challenges for businesses, especially in the café industry. The problem addressed in this study is how the Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) strategy implemented by Kopi Sheo Kotabumi can shape a strong and attractive brand image for consumers, particularly young people and families. This study aims to analyze the IMC strategy implemented by Kopi Sheo Kotabumi, which combines aesthetic and kid-friendly concepts to increase consumer purchasing interest. The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study, where data is collected through in-depth interviews and document analysis. Data analysis techniques were conducted in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing with triangulation of sources for data validation. The research results indicate that Kopi Sheo's IMC strategy successfully creates an appealing visual experience and a comfortable atmosphere for families, thereby increasing consumer loyalty and interest. Through the use of social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, Kopi Sheo presents consistent and visually appealing content while conveying a message of inclusivity for families. This approach is reinforced by integrated public relations activities with the local community, as well as active and targeted internet marketing. This study confirms that the effective implementation of IMC can be a relevant strategy for micro-enterprises in non-metropolitan areas, focusing on aesthetics and family inclusivity values, thereby enhancing competitiveness and emotional customer engagement.

Abstract

The increasing use of Facebook Pro live streaming features by the community in Jayabakti Village as a means of social interaction and economic opportunity reflects a shift in digital communication behavior. In this context, broadcasters are required to employ effective persuasi communication strategies to encourage audience engagement, particularly in the form of sending virtual gifts. This study aims to explore the persuasive communication strategies employed by broadcasters on Facebook Pro live streaming to influence audience behavior in giving gift. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collected through in-depth interviews and observations involving five active Facebook Pro broadcasters. The data were analyzed using Social Influence Theory, focusing on five principles: liking, social proof, authority, reciprocity, and commitment and consistency. The results show that the success of broadcasters in encouraging audience gift-giving is significantly influenced by the implementation of these persuasive strategies. Broadcasters build emotional closeness (liking), display social proof through viewer and gift counts (social proof), foster trust through consistency and transparency (authority), reciprocate audience attention (reciprocity), and maintain engagement through routine and repeated appeals (commitment and consistency). These strategies are applied synergistically to create interactive, familiar relationships that influence audience decisions to offer support. This study contributes to the field of digital communication by demonstrating that persuasive communication in live streaming not only conveys information but also builds social relationships that can drive real audience actions.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how content published by the Instagram account @explore_kabupaten_simalungun influences tourists' interest in visiting the Sidamanik Tea Garden. This is important because both positive and negative travel experiences can influence the decision to revisit a destination. In today's digital age, social media plays a significant role in shaping tourists' perceptions and decisions, particularly among younger generations who are highly active on platforms like Instagram. This study employs a qualitative approach, using the Agenda Setting theory as a foundation to assess how media can direct public attention. The analysis technique used is content analysis of posts in the form of photos and video reels posted by the account, which are then further analyzed using the insights feature to determine user interaction levels such as views, comments, and content shares. The results of the study show that visually appealing content, combined with informative and persuasive captions, can shape positive perceptions of Sidamanik Tea Garden among tourists. This contributes to encouraging the intention to revisit, and even to spread information organically through other users. Insight data revealed that the majority of the audience belonged to the younger age group (18–24 years old), and most of them were not regular followers of the account, indicating that the content successfully reached a broad new audience. This study concluded that Instagram is an effective digital promotional tool for enhancing the appeal of local tourist destinations.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the political communication and strategy carried out by Fauzan Khalid in the 2024 legislative general election. Another objective is to determine the implementation of political marketing until he becomes a member of the Indonesian parliament elected for 2024–2029.The study used a phenomenological study with a qualitative approach. The research subjects or informants were Fauzan Khalid's Parliament members, political communication observers in NTB, and several constituents selected based on purposive sampling techniques and collected data through observation (field observation), interviews, and document searches related to Fauzan Khalid's activities and political communication. Data analysis was done by processing, sorting, synthesizing, searching for, finding important data, and deciding what to convey in the research.The study results show that Fauzan Khalid used various effective political communication strategies and marketing methods until he was elected as a member of the Indonesian parliament for this first period. Fauzan also uses multiplatform media and social media as strategies to spread his political messages and ideas to voters.

Abstract

Healthcare services for BPJS Kesehatan participants at RSUD Kabupaten Tangerang face various challenges, particularlyin communication between medical personnel and patients. The main issue lies in the low effectiveness of participatorycommunication, which results in patient dissatisfaction, miscommunication regarding service procedures, and limitedpatient involvement in medical decision-making. This situation is further exacerbated by the lack of communication training for healthcare staff, limited access to information for patients, and the complexity of BPJS regulations, which are often poorly understood by both parties. This study aims to examine the contribution of participatory communication to patient satisfaction among BPJS participants at RSUD Kabupaten Tangerang, identify the barriers to its implementation, and formulate strategies to enhance the quality of communication between medical staff and patients. The research method employed is library research, by collecting and reviewing various relevant academic literature on participatorycommunication, patient satisfaction, and the quality of healthcare services in hospital settings. The analytical techniqueused is descriptive qualitative analysis, intended to identify patterns, concepts, and relationships among the variablesdiscussed in the literature. The findings indicate that participatory communication significantly contributes to increasedpatient trust, satisfaction, and engagement. The main barriers identified include inadequate communication training, limited access to information, and complex healthcare regulations. Recommended strategies include communication training for medical staff, the development of a hospital management information system (SIMRS), enhanced patient education, and the establishment of an open communication culture to ensure continuous improvement in service quality.

Abstract

The movie “Tuhan Izinkan Aku Berdosa” illustrates problems related to the phenomenon of religion that is only a formality, without deep spiritual meaning. In addition, there are conflicts and oppression against women that are politicized under the pretext of religion, as well as a crisis of faith experienced by individuals due to traumatic experiences and social injustice. The inner conflict of Kiran's character becomes a real reflection of the struggle between faith and a social reality full of oppression and discrimination. This research aims to analyze the representation of Kiran's faith, as well as reveal how the film criticizes traditional religious norms and the oppression of women in the context of modern Indonesian socio-culture that is still patriarchal. This research uses a qualitative approach with Roland Barthes semiotic analysis. The analysis technique includes the identification of denotative, connotative and mythical signs in the narrative and visual symbols of the film to reveal hidden meanings about faith and social criticism and power dynamics in the context of religion.The final findings of the study show that the film “God Permits Me to Sin” represents faith in various ways, including the use of the concept of the Five Pillars of Faith which is full of inner struggles and religious practices that are not always normative. The representation of faith in Kiran's character does not only depict formal religious observance, but rather explores Kiran's life journey as a reflection of a dynamic faith and religious practice.

Abstract

The phenomenon of online gambling is increasingly worrying, especially among teenagers, which can contribute to increased crime rates and other social problems. In Lalibo Village, Central Mawasangka Sub-district, there has been a significant spike in the number of teenagers involved in online gambling activities. This problem is influenced by various factors such as economic pressure, social environment, uncontrolled access to technology, as well as low digital literacy and supervision from parents. This research aims to deeply understand the factors that drive teenagers' involvement in online gambling and explore the communication challenges between teenagers and parents in tackling this phenomenon. The research method used is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Data collection was conducted through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with teenagers, parents, community leaders, and village officials, and literature study.  Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed a sharp contrast between teenagers' and parents' perceptions of online gambling. Teenagers tend to view online gambling as entertainment and a quick way to earn money, while parents consider it a serious threat to their children's moral and financial development. Family communication patterns in discussing online gambling are still limited, due to parents' lack of knowledge about the digital world, a sense of intimacy, and a lack of knowledge about online gambling.
