Abstract

The agricultural sector, especially horticulture, is a cornerstone of the Indonesian economy with great potential to improve farmers' welfare. However, adoption of modern farming methods remains a challenge, often leading to suboptimal yields. This study aims to analyze the impact of horticultural demonstration plots (demplots) on improving farmers' competency in Golo Village, Cibal District, Manggarai Regency. Conducted from May to June 2025, the study used a quantitative pre-test and post-test design with 60 farmers selected purposively from 250 participants. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and structured interviews. Quantitative analysis measured competency enhancement and identified dominant factors using multiple regression, supported by qualitative analysis. Results showed high participation rates, especially during planning and implementation. Farmers' competency increased significantly: technical cultivation knowledge rose by 55% (low to high), practical skills by 30% (moderate to high), and innovative attitudes by 25% (moderate to high). Multiple regression revealed that quality of assistance was the most dominant factor (B=0.580, p<0.001). Other significant factors included demplot frequency (B=0.420), duration (B=0.315), and availability of facilities (B=0.150). These findings indicate that horticultural demplots effectively transfer knowledge and skills and foster innovative attitudes through experiential learning and high-quality mentoring.

Abstract

This research employs a quantitative approach using purposive sampling techniques involving 50 permanent employees as respondents. The analysis was conducted using the Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) method with the assistance of SmartPLS 4. The outer model evaluation indicates that all indicators meet the required validity and reliability criteria (loading factor > 0.7; AVE > 0.5; Cronbach's Alpha and Composite Reliability > 0.7). The structural model assessment also confirms an adequate model fit, as shown by an SRMR value of 0.075, an NFI value of 0.784, and a GoF value of 0.781. The adjusted R² value of 0.749 indicates that work-life balance, benefits, job satisfaction, and workload collectively explain 74.9% of the variance in employee loyalty. The hypothesis testing results show that all four variables have a positive and significant effect on employee loyalty, with job satisfaction as the most dominant factor, followed by benefits, work-life balance, and workload. These findings indicate that integrated human resource management practices, particularly those related to employee satisfaction and welfare, play a strategic role in shaping and maintaining employee loyalty at Perum Perhutani Regional Division of East Java.

Abstract

Information technology (IT) serves as a communication medium for agricultural extension workers to access information and demonstrate it in the field. This study aimed to analyze the utilization of IT by extension workers and the improvement of IT-based extension services in enhancing farmers' access to agricultural information. The research was conducted in Tadang Palie Village, Ulaweng District, Bone Regency, from August 2025 to February 2026. A quantitative descriptive method with a Likert scale approach was used. The population consisted of 15 farmer groups with a total of 375 farmers (25 farmers per group). A random sample of 30 farmers (2 per group) was selected. The assessment categories were: high (66.68–100%), moderate (33.34–66.67%), and low (0–33.33%). The results showed that Whatsapp was the most frequently used platform (97.78%), followed by YouTube (86.67%), TikTok (76.67%), and Facebook (73.33%). Meanwhile, Instagram usage was low (35.55%). The average improvement in IT-based extension services for accessing agricultural information reached 96.44% (high category). This indicates that IT utilization enhances extension activities in delivering agricultural information, both directly and through social media. Extension serves as non-formal education providing guidance, mentoring, problem-solving, and training, enabling farmers to expand their knowledge and develop their farming practices.

Abstract

The differences in facilities received by partnered and non-partnered palm sugar craftsmen lead to disparities in their income. This study aims to analyze the income of partnered and non-partnered palm sugar craftsmen affiliated with ISM Manggarsari in Mantren Village, Kebonagung District, Pacitan Regency. The sample consists of 60 palm sugar craftsmen selected through simple random sampling. Primary data were analyzed using income analysis and independent sample t-test with SPSS. The results show that the cash cost-based income of partnered craftsmen is higher (Rp899.049/month) compared to non-partnered craftsmen (Rp682.818/month), driven by better production volume (68.80 kg/month) and selling price (Rp13.500/kg). However, total cash cost-based income indicates losses for both groups (partnered: -Rp462.352; non-partnered: -Rp903.976), primarily due to uncompensated family labor costs. The t-test (Sig. 0.014 < 0.05) confirms a significant difference in income between the two groups. It is recommended that non-partnered craftsmen join partnerships to gain market access and develop derivative products for sustainable profitability.

Abstract

Fluctuations in turmeric production in Driyorejo Regency during 2020–2024 indicate uncertainty in harvest yields and income, potentially influencing farmers' behavior in making agricultural decisions. This study aims to analyze farmers' behavior towards the risks of turmeric cultivation in Driyorejo Regency, Gresik Regency, using the Moscardi and De Janvry approach. This study was conducted in February 2026, involving 50 turmeric farmers selected using a snowball sampling technique. The analysis was conducted using the risk aversion coefficient [K(s)] parameter, with seed elasticity as the most dominant input influencing turmeric productivity. The results showed that 32 farmers (64%) were classified as risk neutral and 18 farmers (36%) were classified as risk takers, while no farmers were found to be risk averse. These findings indicate that turmeric farmers tend to be neutral to risk averse because turmeric cultivation in an intercropping system is considered capable of providing additional income, spreading risks between commodities, and increasing land management efficiency. Theoretically, the results of this study reinforce the safety-first principle that farmers tend to implement to maintain agricultural sustainability at a tolerable level of risk.

Abstract

Rice paddies provide valuable ecosystem services beyond food production, yet these benefits are often excluded from agricultural economic calculations, leading to market failures and accelerating land-use conversion. This study conducted an integrated economic valuation of 110 hectares of rice fields planted with maize in Dukun Sub-district, Gresik Regency, East Java, using the Total Economic Value (TEV) framework, which includes direct use, indirect use, and option values. Direct use value, calculated using the market price method, reached Rp7,084,000,000 year⁻¹ from 1,980,000 kg of maize production. Indirect use value from oxygen services, estimated through biomass stoichiometric analysis and replacement cost method, yielded 14,868,562.5 kg O₂ year⁻¹ valued at Rp148,685,625,000 year⁻¹. Cultural preservation value, measured using the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) with 160 respondents, showed an average willingness to pay (WTP) of Rp350,000 person⁻¹ year⁻¹ and willingness to accept (WTA) of Rp1,500,000 person⁻¹ month⁻¹, resulting in Rp296,000,000 year⁻¹. The total TEV amounted to Rp156,065,625,000 year⁻¹, with ecosystem services contributing 95.46% of the total value. These findings support the design of ecosystem services payment schemes, integration into national environmental economic accounting, and contribution to Indonesia's SDG 2, SDG 13, and SDG 15 targets.

Abstract

This study analyzed internal and external factors influencing rice farmers' interest in using Beauveria bassiana to control Brown Planthoppers in Tirtomartani Village, Yogyakarta. A descriptive quantitative approach was used. The population consisted of 120 rice farmers, with a sample of 55 respondents selected using the Slovin formula and purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires using a Likert scale, then analyzed using multiple linear regression. Results showed that farmers' interest in using Beauveria bassiana was high, with achievement scores of 85% for attention, 84.5% for interest, and 84% for involvement. Simultaneously, variables including age, education, farming experience, land area, extension intensity, and the role of farmer groups significantly influenced interest, with an R² value of 0.565 (meaning 56.5% of the variation in interest was explained by these variables). However, partially, only the role of farmer groups had a significant effect (p<0.05), while other variables showed no significant effect. These findings indicate that strengthening farmer groups as learning platforms and production units is important for increasing farmers' interest in adopting environmentally friendly pest control innovations.

Abstract

This study analyzes the managerial and scale efficiency levels of hybrid corn farms in Luyo District, Polewali Mandar Regency, to formulate production performance improvement strategies. Applying an output-oriented Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach, the research evaluates 101 farmers designated as Decision Making Units (DMUs). The analysis decomposes technical efficiency into Pure Technical Efficiency (PTE) to assess managerial capacity and Scale Efficiency (SE) to determine production scale appropriateness. Findings reveal an average technical efficiency (TE) of 0.686, implying a potential production increase of 31.4% without additional inputs. Average managerial efficiency (PTE) reached 0.821, reflecting that farmers' pure technical capacity in managing inputs is relatively high. However, the average scale efficiency (SE) was 0.833, with 95% of farmers operating under Increasing Returns to Scale (IRS). This suggests that most farms still operate on a small scale, where additional inputs can significantly boost output. The study also identifies three DMUs as best-practice benchmarks. It is concluded that farm inefficiency in the study area is primarily driven by inappropriate production scale rather than managerial deficits. Consequently, efficiency improvement strategies should focus on scale development and the rationalization of input allocation.
