Abstract

The relationship between language and lyrics is fascinating, since music and language's blend together. "Lyrikos" in Greek means "sung to the lyre," indicates the connection to performance art. Figurative language is a language that are not meant to be taken literally or understood in ways that normally understood. Through the use of Perrine's theory, the paper exploring what is the most used figurative language and how the artist uses figurative language in their writing. Within My Dear Melancholy EP by Canadian singer The Weeknd, there are 33 data of metaphor, conveying feelings of melancholy and heartbreak. Symbolism with 18 data, used to express deep ideas related to emotional struggles and heartache. And irony with 15 data, used to adds depth to the lyrical narrative. The Weeknd clever application of linguistic devices gives the story more depth using metaphor, symbolism, and irony to explore the complexities of heartbreak and emotional struggle.

Abstract

This analysis intends to explain about literature which is written in the form of novel. This research analyzes the novel entitled Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. This novel tells the story of a human who falls in love with a vampire.Bella Swan as the female main character in the novel Breaking Dawn finally married Edward Cullen (Vampire) and then becomes pregnant and has a daughter.The purpose of this research is to analyze the main character in the novelBreaking Dawn.This research method uses descriptive qualitative methods because the data is not numeral but in thefrom of words and sentences. The data of the research is focused on the main characters of the Breaking DawnNovel.The researcher first read the novel Breaking Dawn for several times to get information about the main charactersof the Breaking Dawn novel. Then the researcher collected the data and analyzed them. The research results show that the main roles in the novel are Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black.They have protagonist and dynamicpersonalities.

Abstract

Translation is an attempt to transfer meaning, ideas, or information from the source language (SL) to the target language (TL). This research aims to analyze the translation technique of English to Indonesian subtitles in the movie entitled Luca. The theory used in the study was by Molina & Albir (2002) to collect and analyze the data, while the method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative method. The total numbers found 534 and the percentage of each technique are, literal translation occurs 133 times (25%), reduction occurs 75 times (14%), generalization occurs 64 times (12%), established equivalent occurs 46 times (8,61%), linguistic compression occurs 38 times (7,12%), adaptation occurs 34 times (6,37%), modulation occurs 31 times (5,81%), transposition occurs 27 times (5,06%), particularization occurs 22 times (4,12%), borrowing occurs 20 times (3,75%), discursive creation occurs 15 times (2,81%), compensation occurs 12 times (2,25%), variation occurs 7 times (1,31%), linguistic amplification occurs 6 times (1,12%), and amplification occurs 4 times (0,75%). Abstract

This paper discusses two different Snow White movies, namely, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and Snow White and the Huntsman (2012). The title of this paper is The Comaprison Of Main Character And Plot In The Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (1937) And Snow White And The Huntsman (2012) Movie (Comparative Literature Approach). The purpose of the study is to describe the similarities and differences in the storyline and the representation of the main characters in both movies. The method used is Descriptive Qualitative with a comparative literature theory approach. The results of the study show that in the animated movie, Snow White relies on the help of others in the story, while in the live action film, the character of Snow White is depicted as a strong woman and is able to change the story herself. Abstract

Translation is an attempt to transfer meaning, ideas, or information from the source language (SL) to the target language (TL). This research aims analyze the translation techniques of English to Indonesian subtitles in the movie The Little Mermaid. Theory used in the study was by Molina & Albir (2002) to collect and analyze the data, while the method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative method. The total numbers found 1351 and the percentage of each technique are, literal translation occurs 1061 times (78,53%), reduction occurs 5 times (0,37%), generalization occurs 4 times (0,30%), linguistic compression occurs 69 times (5,11%), adaptation occurs 21 times (1,55%), modulation occurs 74 times (5,48%), transposition occurs 2 times (0,15%), borrowing occurs 58 times (4,29%), compensation occurs 1 times (0,07%), linguistic amplification occurs 7 times (0,52%), calque occurs 8 times (0,59%), Equivalent occurs 25 times (1,85%), Equivalent to Specified occurs 1 times (0,07%), Information occurs 2 times (0,15%), and amplification occurs 13 times (0,96%). The most dominant translation technique found in the movie The Little Mermaid is literal translation. Abstract

In Japanese fukushi iyoiyo, toutou and yatto when translated into Indonesian have the same meaning, namely "finally". The different meanings of the three fukushi will be easily understood by native Japanese speakers when viewed in terms of their semantic knowledge and context, however foreign speakers often have difficulty understanding the differences of the three fukushi when speaking them. This study aims to obtain a description of the differences and similarities of fukushi iyoiyo, toutou, yatto in terms of structure and meaning. There are 19 Japanese sentence data sourced from corpus data. This study uses the comparative theory of Hapidi's study (2013). This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The result of the research is fukushi iyoiyo explaining verbs, nouns, adjectives. Fukushi iyoiyo means "finally" and "more and more". Fukushi toutou explains verbs, adjectives and adverbs. Fukushi toutou means "finally". Fukushi yatto describes verbs, adverbs and functions as a predicate. Fukushi yatto means "finally", "with great difficulty", "mediocrely".

Abstract

Character is an important element in fictional work besides the other elements. In fiction, character reveals a textual representation of human being, or occasionally another creature. Character is the player in the story and it makes the story alive. Every character in a story has characterization. Characterization is the process of conveying information about characters in fiction. In other words, characterization is the way an author describes their characters’ characteristic in the story. This research was motivated by students of class XII Culinary Art at SMK Negeri 1 Bawen who still read simple Japanese sentences without caring about the difference in sound between sokuon and choo'on. This study aims to determine the errors in the sound of sokuon and choo'on and the factors that influence them. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative by collecting data using note-taking techniques, interview techniques, recording techniques and research sources from Nihongo Kira-Kira 1 book chapter 3, chapter 7 and chapter 9 and collecting samples using simple random sampling. The sokuon and choo'on errors can be found when reading simple Japanese sentences. The results of this study found that there were mistakes and errors that were influenced by internal and external factor from students of Class XII Culinary Art, causing errors in the sound of sokuon and choo'on. Suggestions for further research can explore more data, methods or samples and this research can be studied from other branches of linguistics.

Abstract

Translation is required by foreign language learners as it is one of the crucial tasks in the process of information exchange. This study aims to explore the translations made by students based on Vilar et al.'s theory which emphasises statistical machine translation errors and difficulties experienced by students, where the errors occur, as well as the percentage of each error in the translations made by students. This study took the subject of 12th grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Ungaran in the 2024-2025 academic year. In this study, the expected result is that students are able to translate Indonesian into English well in terms of vocabulary and grammar, with minimal errors. This study used descriptive qualitative method to analyse the data. The subjects of this study were 36 students. The tool used in this study was a test. After undergoing the test conducted, the findings showed that there were 13 students who committed missing word errors, 7 students who committed additional word errors, 8 students who committed wrong word errors, 8 students who committed punctuation errors, and 0 students who committed unknown word errors. Based on these results, it can be concluded that students still have difficulties in translation practice.

Abstract

Character is an important element in fictional work besides the other elements. In fiction, character reveals a textual representation of human being, or occasionally another creature. Character is the player in the story and it makes the story alive. Every character in a story has characterization. Characterization is the process of conveying information about characters in fiction. In other words, characterization is the way an author describes their characters’ characteristic in the story. The importance of parents' role in children's language development has been shown to have a significant impact, particularly in English language learning. The method used was descriptive qualitative with total sampling, involving 55 parents as respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, interviews and documentation. The results showed that parental involvement has a positive impact on children's English learning. The role of parents in parenting was recorded as excellent with a percentage of (58.2%), communication was excellent (50.9%), willingness to volunteer was very good (61.8%), home learning was very good (69.1%), decision making was very good (49.1%), and collaboration with the community was very good (52.7%). The active role of parents has a significant effect on children's English vocabulary acquisition and creates a pleasant learning atmosphere that supports optimal language development.
