Abstract

This research examines linguistic ambiguity in Chapter IV on Marriage in the Indonesian Civil Code (KUHPerdata), highlighting how unclear legal language leads to multiple interpretations. The study aims to identify the forms and meanings of ambiguity present in the chapter. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through a listening technique and analyzed using the intralingual equivalence method. Findings reveal that ambiguity still occurs in various articles, resulting from grammatical and lexical issues. A total of 46 ambiguous articles were identified, consisting of 34 cases of grammatical ambiguity and 12 of lexical ambiguity. However, this research focuses on 20 representative data points—10 lexical and 10 grammatical. Lexical ambiguities stem from imprecise diction, while grammatical ambiguities arise from sentence structures that do not align with proper Indonesian grammar. These ambiguities indicate a need for language refinement in the legal text to avoid misinterpretation and ensure legal certainty.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the practice of symbolic violence implied in the symbols of fashion and cosmetic brands among college students. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach to reveal the experiences and views of the subjects in depth. Data were obtained from five students at various universities in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, who were selected as research subjects. Primary data sources were in the form of interviews, observations, and documentation of participants, while secondary data sources were obtained from relevant literature reviews. Data analysis techniques were carried out thematically by reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that symbolic violence occurs when students from lower-middle socioeconomic groups feel compelled to follow the exclusive brand taste standards set by upper socioeconomic groups. This causes the desire to own certain products even though they are economically unaffordable. Symbolic violence also appears through negative labeling of individuals who do not follow dominant fashion standards, such as the use of the term "jamet". It is evident that symbolic violence in fashion and cosmetic brands occurs subtly through symbolic representation mechanisms that are reproduced in everyday life, creating social inequality and psychological pressure on students.

Abstract

This study examines the utilization of comparative figurative language in Luka Cita, a novel by Valerie Patkar, through a stylistic analytical framework. The research centers on three dominant types of figurative expression—metaphor, personification, and simile—investigated for their contribution to semantic enrichment, emotional resonance, and literary aesthetics. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the data were acquired through meticulous textual analysis and classification, grounded in Masruchin’s (2017) taxonomy of comparative tropes. The analysis identifies 24 occurrences of metaphor, 14 of personification, and 12 of simile throughout the novel. These stylistic elements perform significant narrative functions: metaphors provide a concrete representation of abstract feelings; personification attributes human characteristics to inanimate objects, thereby intensifying the psychological depiction of characters; and similes create direct analogies that amplify narrative imagery. Such figurative constructions are not employed solely for decorative purposes but as integral tools for constructing meaning and enhancing the reader’s interpretative engagement. This investigation contributes to literary stylistics, particularly in modern Indonesian prose. It demonstrates how Valerie Patkar strategically employs language to articulate intricate emotional states, internal conflicts, and thematic depth. Furthermore, the effective deployment of comparative figures of speech strengthens the emotional rapport between the narrative and its audience. Hence, the findings affirm that figurative language is pivotal in deepening literary interpretation and unveiling stylistic intent.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the reflections of an English teacher and the perceptions of eleventh-grade students regarding the implementation of blended learning, with a specific focus on its impact on learner autonomy. It seeks to understand how this approach fosters independent learning and to identify the challenges encountered during its application in a secondary school context. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, involving the researcher as the English teacher and thirty purposively selected students from MAN 2 Ponorogo. Data were collected through the teacher’s written reflections, open-ended student questionnaires, and informal interviews to gain deeper insights into participants’ experiences. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis, involving systematic coding, categorizing, and interpreting emerging themes. Findings indicate that blended learning positively contributes to the development of learner autonomy. Students demonstrated enhanced time management, increased initiative in accessing learning resources, and a greater sense of responsibility for their learning progress. Nevertheless, several challenges were identified, particularly related to technological readiness, internet reliability, and time constraints faced by both students and the teacher. The study concludes that the successful implementation of blended learning requires carefully designed instructional strategies, sufficient technological infrastructure, and consistent institutional support to maximize its potential in promoting autonomous learning in the English classroom.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the portrayal of adolescent identity crisis through the character Jamie in the Netflix series Adolescence (2025) and to analyze the psychosocial factors influencing his identity formation. This research uses a qualitative descriptive methodology to analyze narrative elements across four episodes, focusing on identity conflict, peer relations, family dynamics, and digital media influence. Grounded in Erik Erikson’s identity development theory, the research highlights that adolescent identity formation is contingent upon prior developmental stages. Jamie’s experience of profound feelings triggers maladaptive behaviors, including violent acts. Both Jamie and his close friends are marginalized due to perceived physical unattractiveness and social unpopularity, resulting in sustained peer victimization. Psychosocial influences identified include parental relationships marked by inadequate communication, peer rejection and bullying, and emerging sexual awareness during puberty. Despite a nonviolent and harmonious family environment, ineffective parental engagement contributes to Jamie’s emotional withdrawal. Furthermore, the research underscores the significant impact of social media as a double-edged factor, facilitating social connectivity and information acquisition while simultaneously exacerbating feelings of alienation, anxiety, and exposure to cyberbullying. Without adequate adult guidance, adolescents may internalize harmful ideologies, such as misogyny and distorted masculinity constructs, adversely affecting their mental health. The findings advocate for enhanced family communication, supportive peer environments, and structured digital literacy education to foster healthy adolescent psychosocial development.

Explore Moral Values and Messages, 3). Explain Intergenerational Relevance. This song represents the love and support of parents that endures beyond their physical presence, while reminding children about the importance of courage and integrity in living life. The results of this article show three main themes: 1) Parental love and attention that are often only understood by children in the future, 2) the importance of children's independence and courage even though their life choices differ from their parents' expectations, and 3). The continuity of values passed down between generations is the foundation of children's lives in the future. The lyrics of this song describe the role of parents as loving guides, even though they sometimes seem harsh in the eyes of children. The lyrics of the song "Saat Kau Sudah Mengerti" conclude about the deep emotional relationship between parents and children, with the main message about unconditional love and parental sacrifice in shaping children's characters. Semiotic analysis shows that these lyrics emphasize the importance of independence, courage, and integrity for children facing life's realities. However, this is often only understood by children later in life. Furthermore, the song depicts the continuity of life values passed down from parents to the next generation, emphasizing the role of parents as loving guides and supporters.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Guntur Soeharjo's film Ranah 3 Warna through the perspective of Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. As one of the leading semiotic theorists, Barthes offers an approach that can uncover hidden meanings in visual texts, such as films. In this context, the film Ranah 3 Warna, adapted from a novel by Ahmad Fuadi, depicts the life journey of a young man who faces various challenges in his personal life, family, and society. This analysis uses Barthes's main concepts, such as denotation, connotation, and myth, to identify how the visual and narrative elements in the film form deeper meanings. This study reveals that through the signs and symbols in the film, social, cultural messages and values form certain myths in Indonesian society. The results of this study are expected to enrich the understanding of the application of semiotic theory in film analysis and show how the film Ranah 3 Warna can reflect complex social realities through the visual language and narrative developed.
