Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in urine glucose of Diabetes Mellitus patients with and without toluene preservative based on variations in temperature and storage time. Methods This research is descriptive comparative with the purposive sampling technique which was carried out on 34 urine samples of outpatient Diabetes Mellitus patients at the Inche Abdoel Moeis Samarinda Hospital which were analyzed at the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory of the Poltekkes Kaltim using the strip method on a urine analyzer with the Mann Whitney statistical test. Univariately, urine glucose levels 2+ were immediately found in 13 (38%) and 3+ in 21 (62%) samples, urine glucose levels 2+ delayed with toluene preservative stored at room temperature for 4 hours and 8 hours, respectively, obtained 15 (44%) and 18(53%) samples, as well 19(56%) and 16(47%) samples with a grade of 3+. Toluene stored at room temperature (25°C) and refrigeration in the refrigerator (4°C) without preservatives can be an alternative as a preservative for urine glucose testing if the examination cannot be done immediately.

Abstract

Make induction and consider induction descriptor is one of important critical thinking skills for students in order to succeed facing dynamic and complex world. The purpose of this study was to improve the students’ make induction and consider induction skills (MICIS) through voltaic cell laboratory activities based on their mental models. It was also to know the excellence dan the limitations of this learning. It was a weak experimental design with one group pretest posttest design. The study involved 12 students who took General Chemistry II, one of university in Papua. The instruments were essay test, observation sheet, students’ worksheet, and questioners. Essay test of 2 items was used to analyze their MICIS that calculated by N-Gains value. Each items was designed to interconnect macroscopic, sub-microscopic, and symbolic levels. Students’ MICIS (was increased through this learning (N-gain=63,75%). It is necessary to interconnect the three level of chemistry representation level for increasing the students’ MICIS in studying chemistry.

Abstract

Makeup art is a form of face painting that highlights handmade skills. It shows one's ability to develop artistic character, especially in the visual aspect. This ability is honed through practice and the application of concepts inspired by face shapes. Makeup skills are based on an understanding of personality which is mainly reflected in an attractive and regular appearance. This not only increases self-confidence but also helps build good relationships and has a positive impact on individuals who use makeup.  This study aims to describe the views of facial stylists on visual elements. A qualitative approach is used in this research method, by building constructions based on the statements provided. Field data is combined with theory, especially in the context of visual communication which is based on graphic elements.  The results showed that a line is a series of points used in various contexts. Form is a symbolization formed by lines or combinations of lines with other elements. Color plays an important role in creating separation, emphasis, and harmony in works of art. Color psychology suggests that each color has certain emotional effects, ranging from positive to negative. It is believed to have a great influence on emotions, psychology, and human behavior, so it can communicate non-verbally and convey messages with deep meaning.
