Abstract

Abstract This study aims to formulate the acoustic characteristics of stuttering speech through the acoustic phonetic approach. The parameters used to determine the acoustic characteristics of stuttering speech are the duration of speech and silence, the speech tone contours, and the intensity contours of the speech. The data used in this research is a documentary data taken from the website www.youtube.com. The research data is in the form of stuttering speech with phonetic transcription [bəbəbəp bəbəp bəbəbəp bəlaki]. The data were analyzed using Praat 1.6.26 software. The results show that the analyzed stuttering speech has some acoustic characteristics as follows: (1) it has a different duration per sound segment and tends to increase in the last sound segment which is influenced by the length of the lexical strands and the slow movement of the speakers articulator; (2) it has silences with varying duration between one sound segment and another, which indicates that a stuttering speech is spoken haltingly and often stops suddenly; (3) it has a fairly flat tone contour in the first, second, and third segments, and has a significant increase in tone contour in the last sound segment; and (4) it is spoken louder in the last sound segment compared to the previous sound segment which is characterized by a high increase in sound intensity in the last sound segment.Keywords: stuttering speech, acoustic characteristics, acoustic phonetics AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk merumuskan ciri-ciri akustik tuturan gagap melalui pendekatan fonetik akustik. Parameter yang digunakan untuk menentukan ciri-ciri akustik tuturan gagap adalah durasi tuturan dan senyapan, kontur nada tuturan, dan kontur intensitas tuturan. Data yang digunakan adalah data dokumenter yang termuat dalam situs www.youtube.com. Data penelitian berupa tuturan gagap dengan transkripsi fonetis [bəbəbəp bəbəp bəbəbəp bəlaki]. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan software Praat 1.6.26. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa tuturan gagap memiliki ciri-ciri akustik sebagai berikut: (1) memiliki durasi per segmen bunyi yang berbeda-beda dan cenderung meningkat pada segmen bunyi terakhir yang dipengaruhi oleh panjang untaian leksikal dan cepat-lambatnya gerakan artikulator penutur; (2) memiliki kensenyapan dengan durasi yang berbeda-beda antara segmen bunyi yang satu dengan segmen bunyi lainnya yang menandakan bahwa tuturan gagap dituturkan secara tersendat-sendat dan sering mendadak berhenti; (3) memiliki kontur nada yang cukup datar pada segmen pertama, kedua, dan ketiga, serta mempunyai kenaikan kontur nada yang cukup signifikan pada segmen bunyi terakhir; dan (4) dituturkan secara lebih lantang pada segmen bunyi terakhir dibandingkan dengan segmen bunyi sebelumnya yang ditandai dengan kenaikan intensitas bunyi yang tinggi pada segmen bunyi terakhir.Kata kunci: tuturan gagap, ciri-ciri akustik, fonetik akustik

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis strategi menulis kreatif dalam pembelajaran daring, serta kendala yang dihadapi siswa SMP di Kabupaten Pringsewu Tahun 2020. Startegi menulis yang dilakukan siswa dianalisis berdasarkan teori McLean, yang mencakup empat hal, yakni proses penulisan, penetapan tujuan, pengelolaan waktu, dan pemanfaatan bahan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif berupa studi kasus. Sumber data berupa proses menulis kreatif berbentuk esai formal dalam pembelajaran daring, termasuk di dalamnya guru dan hasil pembelajaran. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pengamatan dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah interactive model of analysis yang dikembangkan Miles dan Huberman. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 29 siswa, yang ditentukan secara purposif, khususnya siswa yang memiliki kemampuan menulis dengan kategori sepuluh terbaik di sekolahnya.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa dominan menggunakan strategi dalam menulis kreatif, yakni sebesar 71,55% dengan kategori baik. Dari 29 siswa yang dianalisis ditemukan data: terkait dengan proses penulisan (79,31%),  penetapan tujuan (48,28%), pengaturan waktu (58,62%), dan pemanfaatan bahan (100%). Ditinjau dari produk tulisan, ditemukan rerata nilai siswa untuk semua komponen sebesar 77,75 atau 83,62% dengan kategori baik. Hal ini didasarkan pada hasil analisis terhadap sistematika penulisan (75,86%) dengan kategori baik, isi (93,10%) dengan kategori sangat baik, penggunaan bahasa (65,52%) dengan kategori baik,dan penutup (100%) dengan kategori sangat baik. Selanjutnya, selama proses penulisan ditemukan beberapa kendala, yakni 6,90% siswa kurang paham dalam hal menetapkan tujuan menulis esai, dan 16,38% siswa kurang mampu mengelola waktu karena penulisan dilakukan di rumah (terlalu leluasa). Dalam hal produk tulisan, terdapat 14,48% siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam penggunaan bahasa, khususnya penggunaan ejaan dan tanda baca. Kata kunci: Strategi menulis kreatif, pembelajaran daring, dan siswa SMP

Abstract

Fully understanding the message delivered in written English or Spoken English will save a lot of time for the readers as well as the lisnters to have the comprehension of  the information conveyed..The use of appropriate words that  represent what the writer or the speaker has in his mind has  the potential to enable the readers or the listeners to take the required messages in the shortest possible time. With  representivve  vocabulary that are used to meet  contextual requirements will guarantee a message to reach its required object. Correct use of words will create fully meaningful messages to their readers as well as listeners. Abstract

Translation is a bridge to connect two different cultures by the conversion of linguistic system, a medium that enables people to interact well with others coming from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. To make a translated text more natural, acceptable, and readable, the awareness and mastery of collocations should be taken into account. A translator should understand that this word, for example, collocates with that word or that word always comes with this word. A student of English or a translator should be aware of this situation when translating, for example, from Indonesian into English or vice versa, that the translated text sounds natural to native speakers of English. Therefore, in translating a text, especially from Indonesian into English, collocations play an important role. If we do not increase our collocational awareness in English, it is quite hard to produce native-like expressions in the target language, English. The hardest part when we deal with translation is on how to make readers become unaware that they are reading a translated text.Key words: English, collocations, translation, translated text

Abstract

The transvestite often become the main character in the literature. One of the writers who present the transvestite is Parange Anaranggana through Mbojo Mambure (later shorten as MM) novel. MM is a realist literature based on social reality in the Bima district. Bima’s people are still shackled inside binary gender, which is the label between men to masculinity and women to feminine. Meanwhile, non-binary gender gets several deficient labels from the local community. In the MM, the transvestite is often get verbal violence and shackled into social discourse. This situation makes them want to get out of the construction built by society. The purpose of this study is to explain several performativities of the transvestite entity amid heteronormative idealism society. This study uses Judith Butler’s performativity theory. Butler explains performativity is some of the discursive practice which generates or assign discourse production. The method in this study is qualitative, which explains there are transvestites who express gender through some performances or actions, appearance and conversation. The transvestite wants to show they could live together with society. Second, Parange Anaranggana described the transvestite who come back to initial identity. Two transvestites experience ambivalence inside themselves. Third, the description of transvestite who come back to initial identity confirms that they could not change stigma in society. Nevertheless, the transvestite could represent a new point of view that Bima has a variety of gender. Keywords: gender, the transvestite, performativities, Bima.

Abstract

Students’ vocabulary mastery is influenced by many factors. One of them is the technique, which the teachers use in teaching. In this research, the writer applied Frayer Model Strategy to teach vocabulary in the classroom. Then the writer analyzed the result of the technique in order to know its influence. The research was conducted at the eighth class of SMPN 26 Bandar Lampung in 2017/2018. The students of X1 were as the sample that was taught by using Frayer Model Strategy and X2 that was taught by using conventional technique. In this case, the writer used two classes as the sample, the first class as experimental class (29 students) and the second class as a control class (28 students) from 265 students of eight classes. The sample was gotten by random sampling technique and the research based on the experiment method. In collecting, the writer used objective test that was multiple-choice test contained 40 questions. The technique of analysis data in this research used product moment formulation. The result of the research shows that there is a significant influence of Frayer Model Strategy towards Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at the eighth class of SMPN 26 Bandar Lampung in 2017/2018. It showed from the distribution list with df = 55 obtained the t ratio t0.95 or significance level of 5% and t- ratio to 0.99 or significance level  of 1% is equal to 2.02 and 2.70. They are less than t-test 7.16. Finally, the writer concluded that there is a significant influence of Frayer Model Strategy towards students’ vocabulary mastery at the eighth class of SMPN 26 Bandar Lampung in 2017/2018. dx.doi.org/10.23960/aksara/v21i2.pp145-155

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap pertunjukan Rejung pada tradisi begareh dalam malam bujang gadis pada tradisi perkawinan masyarakat Besemah, Pagar Alam, Sumatera Selatan. Rejung adalah pertunjukan musik tradisi berupa pantun yang ditembangkan dan diiringi dengan gitar sebagai media hiburan dalam tradisi perkawinan pada malam bujang gadis. Pada malam bujang gadis terdapat tradisi begareh, yaitu berkumpulnya muda-mudi untuk membantu pekerjaan dalam upacara perkawinan. Pada saat ini Rejung dijadikan sebagai media mencari pasangan. Tradisi begareh memiliki keunikan, yaitu kebebasan mengungkapkan perasaan melalui pantun untuk merayu pasangan. Rejung digunakan sebagai media komunikasi yang memiliki makna komunikasi verbal dan komunikasi musikal. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, pengamatan, dan wawancara. Abstract

The study aims at finding out the influence of students learning styles and their time to learn English outside classroom on the students English achievement at junior high schools of Tulang Bawang Regency in Lampung Province. The number students recruited as the sample for the study was 1038 and the number of teachers recruited as the sample was 70 teachers. The data for students learning styles were gained through a questionnaire which resulting students learning style categories of: a) communicative, b) concrete, authority-oriented, d) analytic, and e). undecided. For students time learning outside classroom was gained through a questionnaire resulting students who learn: a) less than an hour a day, b) 1-2 hours a day, c) 2-3 hours a day, d) 3-4 hours a day and e) more than four hours a day. The results show that there is no significant influence of students learning styles on their achievement of English subject. Students spending time learning English outside classroom has a significant effect on their English achievement. The average score of students who spent more than four hours a day had the highest score, followed by students who spent 2-3 hours a day. The lowest score was gained by the students who spent less than one hour a day learning English outside classroom.Key word: learning styles, time spent learning English outside classroom, English achievement

Abstract

English debate is an attractive activity for students where they can practice English and communication skills, also could strengthen critical thinking through the activities. However, the activity is rarely implemented in Indonesian curriculum even though they’ve started implementing High Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) in their learning material. To fill this void, this study aims at exploring the debater’s perception who had experience debate activity for years. Debate activity is mostly found in co-curriculum activity where it is not obligatory for students. In order to understand the component of HOTS, the researcher used the construct by Facione (1990) to characterize Critical Thinking (CT) skills that can be learned. The purpose of this study is to dig the debater’s experiences during their time of joining debate Community and how they perceive CT skills trough the activity. The study presented in a qualitative method. Two university students that have different experiences in debating who also from different university and debate community were chosen as the participant. The data were acquired with in-depth interview from each of the participants. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis by Braun Clarke (2006) where the researcher state themes from the data that is important and related to the question. The finding showed that both of them felt debate activity is contributing to sharpen their CT skills such as analysis, self-regulation, and evaluation. An interesting finding also found that one of the participants experience CT disposition as an extension of CT skills.  http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/aksara/v21i1.pp1-16

Abstract

Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia untuk multijenjang selalu bergerak dinamis mengikuti perkembangan manusia sebagai penglaku dan pemilik bahasa itu sendiri. Bahasa berkembang mengikuti pergerakan jaman. Oleh karena itu, kedinamisan rancangan pembelajaran bahasa juga turut serta didalamnya. Penyempurnaan Kurikulum 2006 ke Kurikulum 2013 untuk mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia diletakkan pada pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia yang berbasis teks. Pembelajaran berbasis teks dirumuskan sebagai formula efektif untuk mensejajarkan pelaksanakan pendekatan ilmiah (pendekatan saintifik) sebagai teman sejati dalam pelaksanaan Kurikulum 2013. Teks yang diformulasikan ke dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia sebagai pengejewantahan dari sistem budaya, sistem sosial, sistem kepribadian, dan sistem tingkah laku yang berlaku di masyarakat. Hadirnya konteks budaya (nilai, norma) dalam teks dapat ditunjukkan, misalnya pada teks laporan dan teks deskripsi. Hakikat dilaksanakannya pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia berbasis teks itu sendiri adalahpertama: melalui teks, kemampuan berpikir siswa dapat dikembangkan; kedua: materi pembelajaran berupa teks lebih relevan dengan karakteristik Kurikulum 2013 yang menetapkan capaian kompetensi siswa yang mencakupi ketiga ranah pendidikan: sikap, pengetahuan, dan keterampilan. Selain itu, pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia berbasis teks dimaknai sebagai pembelajaran yang mengantarkan peserta didik untuk dapat berpikir sistematis, terkontrol, empiris, dan kritis.Kata Kunci: pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia, teks, Kurikulum 2013
