Abstract

Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) is one of the public health problems that is still commonly found in Indonesia. This disease often occurs due to weather changes, unhealthy environmental conditions, and low immune system resistance. One of the efforts that can be made to prevent and support the management of ARI is the utilization of family medicinal plants (TOGA). Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a herbal plant that is easily found and contains active compounds that are beneficial for respiratory health. This community service activity aims to increase community knowledge and skills in utilizing ginger as a herbal beverage to support the prevention and management of ARI. The methods used include health education, education on the utilization of ginger, demonstrations on the preparation of ginger drinks, and interactive discussions. The results of the activity showed an increase in community understanding of the benefits of ginger as well as greater awareness in utilizing natural ingredients to maintain health.

Abstract

Drug abuse remains a serious problem threatening the younger generation, including university students. The coastal areas of Bengkulu City are vulnerable to drug trafficking due to social and geographical factors. Universities, as educational institutions, have a strategic role in efforts to prevent drug abuse through promotional and preventive activities. This activity aims to detect early drug abuse among students of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Dehasen University Bengkulu, as well as to raise awareness and commitment of the academic community in creating a campus environment free from drugs. The methods for implementing this community service activity include socialization about the dangers of drug abuse, education on the importance of early detection, and urine testing for students of Fikes Dehasen Bengkulu.Urine tests are carried out according to standard procedures using rapid drug test kits. This activity is conducted in a coordinated manner involving lecturers, healthcare workers from the Bengkulu City National Narcotics Agency (BNN), and students as participants totaling 70 people. The results of the activity indicate that out of 70 people who underwent urine testing (early detection), negative results (-) were obtained, which shows that the majority of Fikes Dehasen Bengkulu students are free from drug abuse. The results of education and awareness-raising activities based on the pre-test and post-test show an increase in participants' understanding of the dangers and types of drugs, with the average pre-test score being 62 and an increase in participants' knowledge to an average post-test score of 82.Conclusion: the community service activity of the campus drug-free movement (Bersinar) through urine testing on students of Fikes Dehasen Bengkulu ran smoothly and provided positive benefits for the participants. This activity is effective in supporting efforts to prevent drug abuse and strengthening the commitment of the academic community to creating a healthy, safe, and drug-free campus. Similar activities are recommended to be carried out continuously as part of promotive and preventive programs in higher education institutions.

Abstract

The problem of household waste management remains a challenge in the Neighborhood Association (Rukun Tetangga) 05 and Community Association (Rukun Warga) 02 areas of Sawah Lebar Village, Bengkulu City. Most residents lack the awareness and skills to manage organic waste, resulting in waste being simply thrown away and causing environmental pollution. This community service activity aims to empower residents to process household waste into liquid organic fertilizer that is beneficial for plants and the environment. The implementation method is carried out in a participatory manner through stages of socialization, training in making liquid organic fertilizer, fermentation practices, mentoring, and evaluation of results. The results of the activity show an increase in community knowledge and skills in processing organic waste into useful products. Most participants have been able to produce liquid organic fertilizer independently with good results, marked by changes in color, aroma, and pH that meet the standards for natural liquid fertilizer. This program also has an impact on reducing the volume of organic waste in the environment and increasing community awareness of the importance of maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability. This activity has succeeded in becoming a practical solution in turning waste problems into opportunities for community empowerment.

Abstract

Environmental issues in RT 03 RW 01 Pematang Gubernur include the presence of arid land in water catchment areas, which increases the risk of soil erosion. The Thematic Community Service (KKN-T) Program of Group 30 from Dehasen University Bengkulu aims to address these issues through a strategic reforestation initiative. The methods employed include participatory observation and mutual cooperation in tree planting with the local residents. The activity was conducted on January 11, 2026, involving the planting of productive fruit tree seedlings, including durian, matoa, Jamaican guava, and rambutan. The results show an increase in vegetation coverage, which serves as natural shade and a soil erosion inhibitor. Beyond the ecological benefits, the selection of Multipurpose Tree Species (MPTS) provides long-term economic and nutritional value for the community. In conclusion, integrating reforestation programs with productive plants effectively enhances community participation and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

The community of RT 01 Jalan Sudirman III, Pintu Batu Sub-district, is a densely populated urban settlement in the center of Bengkulu City that faces environmental problems such as unmanaged household waste, air pollution, limited green open space, and high traffic accident risk at blind-spot corners and intersections. The Thematic Community Service Program (KKN-T) of Universitas Dehasen Bengkulu was implemented to optimize the quality of this settlement environment through a series of interventions, including the installation of neighborhood navigation maps and emergency numbers, convex mirrors and reflective road markings, routine community clean-up activities, educational signage, environmental awareness campaigns, and the distribution of plant seedlings suitable for narrow spaces. The method consisted of situation analysis, problem identification with local partners, participatory program planning, field implementation over one month, and evaluation with follow-up plans involving local actors. The results indicate improved awareness of cleanliness and safety, a reduction of waste accumulation at several points, better traffic safety at blind-spot areas, and the emergence of small-scale greening initiatives that enhance the aesthetics and comfort of the neighborhood. These findings show that KKN-T in RT 01 Jalan Sudirman III contributed to optimizing a dense urban settlement environment through the synergy of simple technical interventions, continuous environmental education, and active community participation

Abstract

Residential areas in Pematang Gubernur Village are facing the problem of accumulated household waste, indiscriminate littering, and a lack of green open spaces, which reduce the community's sense of well-being and concern for cleanliness. This community service initiative provides a solution involving community participation through community service activities to clean the environment and the development of Pematang Park, a simple, collaboratively managed green space. The goal of this community service initiative is to raise community awareness and responsibility for maintaining environmental cleanliness and encourage sustainable public space maintenance practices. Methods used to address the problem include identifying locations with high levels of waste with residents and vi lage officials, conducting brief education sessions on clean living behaviors and household waste management, implementing mutual cooperation to clean and tidy the area, and creating a park through reforestation and simple facility arrangement. The results of this initiative show improvements in environmental cleanliness, increased community participation in community service activities, and the establishment of Pematang Park as an educational tool and a sense of ownership. These findings demonstrate that collective activities accompanied by green space management can effectively address cleanliness issues and increase community awareness.

Abstract

Household waste management in residential areas remains a significant challenge due to the low level of public awareness regarding proper waste disposal practices. This community service activity aimed to increase public awareness of household waste management through the use of educational media in residential environments. The methods employed included environmental observation, coordination with local community leaders, development of simple and persuasive educational messages, installation of educational media at strategic locations, and brief socialization activities for residents. The results indicated that the educational media helped raise residents’ awareness of environmental cleanliness and served as a reminder to avoid improper waste disposal, particularly in drainage channels and along residential roads. The community showed positive responses and began to demonstrate improved attitudes toward maintaining cleanliness around their homes and public facilities. These findings suggest that well-designed educational media, placed in frequently accessed areas, can effectively encourage behavioral change in household waste management. Program sustainability requires continued support from community leaders and active participation from residents through monitoring and routine environmental cleaning activities
