Abstract

Ovarian cancer is a gynecological malignancy that in Indonesia still ranks third after cervical cancer and uterine corpus cancer 1. In the United States, ovarian cancer is the second most common gynecologic cancer and the leading cause of death from gynecological cancer. Clinically, its development is different from cervical cancer. Namely, ovarian cancer does not have apparent initial clinical symptoms, so that it is difficult to detect early. As a result, 65-75% of ovarian cancer are diagnosed at an advanced stage. Symptoms of ovarian cancer are non-specific, easy to miss in the early stages; symptoms are often seen in advanced stages (stage III or stage IV) a combination of a full stomach, bloating, nausea, abdominal distension, early satiety, fatigue, changes in bowel movements, urinary symptoms, back pain, dyspareunia, and weight loss. Preventive and promotive efforts in reducing the incidence of ovarian cancer are identified risk factors for ovarian cancer.

Abstract

Infertility is a common condition caused by the female factor, male factor, or both. Infertility problems can have a significant impact on married couples who experience them. In addition to causing medical problems, infertility can also cause economic and psychological problems. Couples who experience infertility will undergo a long process of evaluation and treatment, where this process can be both physical and psychological for the infertile couple. The aim of this article is presenting a literature study on infertility screening. Infertility affects millions of people of reproductive age worldwide and impacts family and community life. Estimates suggest that between 48 million couples and 186 million people are living with infertility. Infertility occurs in 15% of couples. Female factors cause infertility in 50-70%, and malefactors are the cause of infertility in 40-50% of couples. Given the high prevalence of malefactors in infertility heterosexual couples, medical history and early evaluation of male partners are needed. Ovulation dysfunction was defined as a history of oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea, recurrent luteal progesterone levels of less than 3 ng/mL, or both. For many women, a menstrual history is sufficient to assess ovulatory function. The clinical history can be used to assess the ovulatory cycle as most women will have regular menstrual cycles every 25–35 days. Anovulation may be associated with obesity, hypothalamic and pituitary dysfunction, PCOS, and other etiologies. Polycystic ovary syndrome is the most common cause of ovulatory infertility. Women with PCOS who have been diagnosed are at increased risk of the metabolic syndrome associated with cardiovascular events and negatively impacting pregnancy. Infertility is the failure of a couple to get pregnant for at least 12 months having regular sex without contraception, or also known as primary infertility. Secondary infertility is the inability of a person to have children or maintain a pregnancy. Idiopathic infertility refers to infertile couples who have undergone standard examinations, including ovulation tests, tubal patency, and semen analysis with normal results.

Abstract

Obesity is a multifactorial disease that occurs due to excess fat tissue that can interfere with health. It is estimated that obesity will reach more than 50% in developed countries. In Indonesia, the prevalence of obesity in people over 18 years old is 21.8%. Environment or diet is one of the causes of obesity. Community service activities were carried out on October 18, 2021, in Kuto Batu Village, Palembang, with the main target being community cadres with a minimum of 30 participants. Based on the pre-test results conducted on 32 participants, 60% already had a good knowledge of obesity and central obesity and weight management. However, unfortunately, more than half of the participants (65%) were overweight and even obese type 2, and 12% of participants were underweight, while the rest were normal. The results of the blood pressure examination showed that 62% of the participants had blood pressure greater than or equal to 130/80 mmHg. The data also showed that most of the overweight and obese participants had above-normal blood pressure. The same results in the participant's abdominal circumference as many as 62% had central obesity.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a disease or metabolic disorder that is increasing year by year, characterized by high blood sugar levels as a result of insulin function insufficiency. Diabetes mellitus, which is often referred to as diabetes, is a disease or metabolic disorder that is increasing year by year, characterized by high blood sugar levels as a result of insulin function insufficiency. Treatment is by using drugs. Currently, a treatment using herbal medicine is being developed, one of which is Kayu kuning, where in previous studies it was found that the roots of Kayu kuning can reduce blood glucose levels. This has triggered the Biochemistry and Medical Chemistry section of the Faculty of Medicine to introduce to the public the preparations of this herbal medicine with ready-to-use packaging and the right dosage. The process of making tea is carried out at the Chemical Basic Medicine Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University. About 5.6 kg of yellow wood root, washed and cut into small pieces then dried and ground to obtain a coarse powder (simplicia) of about 2.5 kg. Yellow wood root simplicia is put into tea bags weighing 10 g per bag. One tea bag can be brewed with 200 mL of hot water and drunk once a day. In this service, 250 tea bags were produced which were packaged in 50 packages (5 tea bags/package). The production of this yellow wood root tea has been carried out in the Komplek Azhar Lama, Kenten Laut, Palembang. Keywords: Herbal medicine, yellow root (Arcangelisia flava)

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with a high prevalence of diabetes, with total cases of diabetes in adults reaching 10 million cases, 6.2% of the total adult population. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia due to defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Insulin resistance in muscle and liver cells and pancreatic beta-cell failure has been recognized as the pathophysiology of major damage of type 2 diabetes. The blood glucose test is an important laboratory examination that can be used to diagnose, screen, and monitor DM type 2. There are several types of blood glucose levels, including random blood glucose tests, fasting blood glucose tests, post prandial blood glucose tests, oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT), and HbA1c. Type 2 DM is often called the silent killer because sufferers are often late for self-examination and treatment so that complications arise early. Early symptoms of type 2 diabetes can be identified through blood sugar examination and risk factor screening. Screening for type 2 DM can detect abnormalities as early as possible so that interventions can start as early as possible to minimize the complication rate so that the quality of life can be maintained or better.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic is still one of the causes of high morbidity and mortality rates worldwide, including in Indonesia. One of the causes of the high morbidity and mortality rates in Covid-19 sufferers is due to inappropriate treatment when self-isolated at home. This lack of care is due to a lack of public knowledge in caring for COVID-19 sufferers at home, especially for patients with comorbid diseases such as cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out a program to increase public knowledge to have a positive attitude in treating Covid-19 patients at home. Health education activity was conducted to provide and increase public knowledge about handling actions to overcome emergency conditions of cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary diseases during self-isolation at home. This activity was carried out online through the Zoom application and was attended by 72 participants. Public knowledge about handling emergency conditions of cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, or pulmonary disease in self-isolating patients at home still needs to be improved.

Abstract

The use of medicinal plants for healing is the oldest form of medicine in the world. Medicinal plants such as ginger, lemongrass, and turmeric have been clinically tested and proven effective in reducing muscle pain, stiffness, and difficulty moving the knee in patients. Medicinal plants are the types of choice that are efficacious as drugs with easy maintenance and relatively low costs. Medicinal plants are a safe alternative to family medicine because they rarely cause side effects and are easy to process and consume to prevent gout arthritis. Some efficacious herbal plants to reduce pain caused by arthritis are ginger, lemongrass, turmeric, thyme (mint), garlic, green tea, and cinnamon. These plants, based on research, have properties as anti-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory in reducing muscle pain and stiffness in gout arthritis.

Abstract

One of the undergraduate psychology qualifications (S1) compiled by the Indonesian Psychology Colloquium (AP2TPI, 2019) is being able to conduct observations, interviews, and psychological tests on human behavior phenomena based on the basic concepts of psychological theory with the primary competence understanding the basic principles of psychodiagnostic, being able to apply the principles of observation and interview and able to administer, score and interpret certain psychological tests. Currently, one type of interview technique that is often used in work is the behavior-event interview (BEI). According to McClelland (1998), interviews using competency-based methods have been widely accepted and proven in many studies to test the strengths and weaknesses of the interviewee. Competency-Based Interview Structures are also effective in minimizing subjective assessments that interviewers often do not realize. Therefore, the skills to conduct interviews based on these competencies are considered important for Psychology graduates.
