Abstract

The objective of this study is to reveal the Mitigation of Climate Change from the Perspective of the Qur'an. To demonstrate the meaning of climate change mitigation in the Qur'an, the author employs a thematic interpretation method with a scientific approach to study the verses of the Qur'an related to the causative factors (fasad) and efforts in overcoming climate change. This research is qualitative. The results of this study reveal that mitigation or efforts that can be made to overcome climate change are (1) increasing faith and piety in Allah, the almighty God, so that humans can control their lusts. With the ability to control lust, human activities are only intended to prosper, stem damage and persecution, and improve the quality of life. (2) Increasing environmental awareness and conducting sustainable management.

Abstract

Aceh has a long history of maintaining its Islamic identity since the era of the Samudera Pasai Sultanate. In the era of globalization, Acehnese society faces challenges from Western hegemony, which brings secular values and modernization that have the potential to change local social and cultural structures. This study analyzes the response of Acehnese society to this phenomenon through two main mechanisms: resistance and adaptation. Resistance is reflected in the implementation of Islamic law, Islamic-based regulations such as the Aceh Qanun, and criticism of Western culture that is considered contrary to Islamic values. Meanwhile, adaptation is carried out by adopting global technology for the benefit of Islamic preaching, developing a sharia-based economy, and integrating a modern education system with Islamic values. By using a qualitative approach based on literature studies and the theoretical framework of Antonio Gramsci's hegemony, Henri Tajfel's social identity theory, and Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas' Islamization theory, this study finds that resistance and adaptation are not two conflicting concepts, but rather complementary strategies in shaping Aceh's Islamic identity amidst global dynamics. Islamization is the primary mechanism for integrating aspects of modernity with Islamic values, enabling Aceh to remain relevant while preserving the essence of its cultural identity.

Abstract

TikTok is one of the social media platforms that has a significant impact on creating hyperreality among young people, including university students. Through hyperreality, students often experience spiritual disruption, even those focused on religious and philosophical studies. This article aims to reveal hyperreality and its impact on the spirituality of TikTok users among Ushuluddin and Philosophy students. The issues discussed include how TikTok is used by the students, how hyperreality manifests, and how it influences the spirituality of the students who are inherently focused on the study of Islamic thought, various religions, and spiritual traditions. The methods employed are observation and interviews with a philosophical approach. The data obtained were analyzed using Jean Baudrillard’s theory of hyperreality and Muhammad Iqbal’s concept of Insan Kamil. The findings of this article are threefold: First, students use TikTok as a medium for entertainment, business, learning, and self-expression to enjoy and enhance their quality of life based on their perspectives. Second, hyperreality manifests in how TikTok usage becomes a simulator and creates simulacra that blur essential reality. Third, the impact on spirituality is reflected when the students constantly imitate and lose their authenticity, feel insecure, distort their true image, and orient themselves towards materialism beyond their personal spiritualism.

Abstract

This research discusses Nurcholish Madjid's thoughts on science and religion from the perspective of Islamic epistemology. It is a relatively difficult endeavor because one's thoughts often reflect multiple prototypes. The type of research used is a philosophical-historical hermeneutic analysis approach. In this context, the three methods are used to explore concepts related to the reconciliation of science and religion in Islamic epistemology. The data in this research were obtained through a literature study, which involved collecting books, papers, articles, and journals relevant to the research topic that reflect the understanding of the polarization of science and religion, thereby enriching research perspectives. This research is a qualitative literature review with a philosophical approach using critical analysis and historical hermeneutic methods. The research findings obtained are that Nurcholish Madjid has an ontological basis in the form of belief in the oneness of God as a basis for the development of science and religion in the Islamic world. Regarding the field of epistemology, Nurcholish Madjid has thoughts mainly related to the issue of the function of reason in science. The solution offered to the crisis in the relationship between science and religion for Nurcholish Madjid is simply to include ethical-aesthetic elements in it. Finally, for Nurcholish Madjid, science and religion are about high reality. In scientific studies, religion is a system of symbols. So there is a universal idea of science and religion, which is then translated through concrete events so that it enters the human mind. That's why the word of God is called a verse. In the language of the Quran, it is called a religion of justice and prosperity, even though humans generally do not know it.

Abstract

Religion and power are two inseparable aspects in Islam. In fact, power itself is a vital component of religious duty, as human well-being cannot be fulfilled without it. Therefore, Al-Maududi emphasized the importance of this issue, which he articulated in his theory of Islamic governance. This article will discuss the philosophy of law in Al-Maududi’s theory of Islamic governance. Based on library research, qualitative data, and a descriptive-analytical approach, the following conclusions can be drawn: first, Al-Maududi’s theory of Islamic governance is unique compared to other theories due to its balanced concept of sovereignty, neither excessive nor dismissive. Second, this theory is supported by fundamental principles of governance. Third, the theory is further supported by three essential institutions that Al-Maududi formulated: legislative, executive, and judicial. All of this demonstrates the significance of both religion and politics in Islam.

Abstract

Dhikr is a spiritual practice in Islam believed to bring inner peace. However, not everyone who performs dhikr experiences spiritual calm, indicating a problem in its depth or quality. While dhikr has been widely studied, research on dhikr al-rūḥ (dhikr of the soul) as taught by Shaykh Akbar Muhammad Dahlan, the second murshid of the Idrisiyyah Order in Indonesia, remains unexplored. This study aims to examine his concept of dhikr al-rūḥ within the context of the ṭarīqah. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a phenomenological approach, data were collected through interviews with Idrisiyyah practitioners and a literature review. The findings show that dhikr al-rūḥ is a high-level, divinely gifted (mawahib) practice involving spiritual consciousness, rābiṭah with the murshid, and a sanad linking the seeker’s soul to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is not merely verbal repetition, but a gradual process of soul awareness that leads to inner tranquility and spiritual transformation through union with Divine Reality.

Abstract

This article presents an in-depth study of the movements of Shalat (Islamic prayer) as a form of spiritual epistemology, particularly from the perspective of the concept of Nur Muhammad. This research adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method, designed to carefully explore and interpret the symbolic meanings contained within each posture and transitional movement of Shalat. Its primary objective is to understand how this series of physical movements functions as an effective means of acquiring profound and authentic spiritual knowledge. The study's findings reveal significant insights: each movement in Shalat represents systematic and essential stages in the human spiritual journey towards closeness with God. This spiritual journey is fundamentally rooted in the concept of Nur Muhammad, understood as the primordial light of creation, the first entity created by Allah, and the origin of all manifestations in the universe. Thus, Shalat is not merely a ritual, but a symbolic "mi'raj" (ascension) that allows the worshipper to align themselves with this original light. This research is expected to make a substantial contribution to deepening the understanding of the esoteric and philosophical dimensions of Shalat, moving beyond its literal interpretations. Furthermore, this study also aims to enrich the treasury of Islamic epistemology by offering a new perspective on how the practice of worship can become a path towards the acquisition of intuitive and direct Divine knowledge.

Abstract

Addressing the modern spiritual crisis of 'unhomeliness'—rooted in Heidegger's 'forgetting of Being' (Seinsvergessenheit) and inadequately met by conventional responses—this article constructs an 'existential-Islamic dialogue'. Drawing from Heideggerian thought and Ali Syari'ati's reinterpreted spirituality, this framework synthesizes meditative practices (Denken, Gelassenheit) with the cultivation of an authentic, justice-oriented community (ummah). The central finding is that this synthesis offers a viable path to integrate profound individual transformation with concrete social and political engagement. The article concludes by addressing key challenges, such as essentialism and utopianism, while using the Indonesian context as a key point of reference.

Abstract

This study examines al-Jābirī's interpretive reasoning as an effort to reconstruct the understanding of the Qur'an. Stemming from the inevitability of the dynamics of Qur'anic interpretation and the problems of turats (heritage), this study positions al-Jābirī as a figure who bridges tradition and Western modernity in his thought. This library research employs a biographical study model, with data drawn from written literature, particularly two of al-Jābirī's works on tafsir: Madkhāl ilā al-Qur’ān al-Karīm and Faḥm al-Qur’ān al-Ḥakīm: al-Tafsīr al-Wāḍiḥ Ḥasb Tartīb al-Nuzūl. To delve into al-Jābirī's interpretive thought, a theoretical-objective hermeneutic theory is utilized with two approaches: psychological (understanding al-Jābirī's character through his life background, geographical, socio-political context, and intellectual journey) and linguistic (specifically reading al-Jābirī's works). In his tafsir, al-Jābirī redefines the Qur'an as al-Ẓāhirah al-Qur’āniyyah (the Qur'anic phenomenon), which encompasses timeless, spiritual, and social da'wah elements, rejecting definitions that are ideologically laden and ahistorical. Al-Jābirī's interpretive methodology applies the principles of al-faṣl (separation of the reader from the object of reading for objectivity) and al-waṣl (reuniting the reader with the object of reading for contemporary relevance). Finally, al-Jābirī promotes Tafsir Nuzūlī (chronological interpretation) which emphasizes the logical relationship between the historicity of Muhammad's da'wah journey and the Qur'anic verses as responses, with mapping based on the Meccan and Medinan periods. This aims to make the Qur'an speak and introduce itself, while also remaining relevant to contemporary times.
