Abstract

Effective agricultural land use necessitates careful and intensive management that considers the unique characteristics of each plot, as these can vary significantly. Given the extensive information on land suitability for coffee plantations in the Tinangkung Selatan sub-district, research is essential to assess the area's substantial potential for coffee cultivation. The primary aim of this study is to determine the suitability of land for coffee plants in situ within the South Tinangkung District. A quantitative descriptive survey approach was employed, matching actual land conditions with coffee land suitability criteria. Analysis of eight sample points revealed three suitability classes: moderately suitable (S2), marginally suitable (S3), and unsuitable (N). At point 2, the land was classified as moderately suitable (S2) for coffee cultivation, covering 567.03 ha, influenced by moderate soil depth, base saturation, very low nitrogen levels, and a gentle slope. The marginally suitable (S3) criteria were affected by nitrogen levels (point 1), altitude (point 3), base saturation, organic carbon, and nitrogen levels (point 4), encompassing 7,898.87 ha. The unsuitable class (N) was identified at points 5, 6, 7, and 8, covering 6,098.42 ha, primarily due to altitude. Improvement efforts indicate potential land suitability, with 2,049.16 ha classified as moderately suitable (S2), 7,479.89 ha as marginally suitable (S3), and 5,035.28 ha as unsuitable (N). Engaging stakeholders, including government, research institutions, communities, and the private sector, is crucial for managing this land effectively, particularly in restoring and enhancing the function of less productive or degraded areas to optimize their potential.

Abstract

The processing of fishery products through smoking activities is an important effort in increasing the added value of products and the income of coastal communities. This study aims to analyze the smoking process of roa fish, the added value generated from the processing activities, and the marketing channels of smoked roa fish in Lenggetan Village, Bangkurung District, Banggai Laut Regency. The study was conducted from July to October 2024 using a census method on all 18 smoked roa fish processors, and involving two collectors as supporting informants. The data used consisted of primary and secondary data. The added value analysis was conducted using the Hayami value-added calculation approach, while the marketing channels were analyzed descriptively. The results of the study indicate that the smoking process of roa fish includes the stages of washing, transportation, clamping and tying, arranging, smoking, and packaging. In one production process, an average of 25 packs of smoked roa fish are produced with a selling price of IDR 200,000 per pack. The added value obtained from processing roa fish into smoked roa fish is IDR 2,150,754 per production, which indicates that the roa fish smoking business is classified as having high added value. The marketing channels used consist of two patterns, namely direct sales from processors to consumers and sales through collecting traders who then distribute the product outside the region. The results of this study indicate that the roa fish smoking business in Lenggetan Village is feasible to be developed because it is able to provide added value and economic benefits for business actors.

Abstract

Rice fields are a highly strategic form of land use because they are the main resource for producing rice. Rice is a crop that grows well in flooded conditions. However, above-normal flooding will also affect the condition of the rice plants themselves. Climate change, erratic rainfall and inadequate drainage infrastructure often cause prolonged flooding. Minakarya Village is one of the centres of rice (Oryza sativa L.) production in Moilong Subdistrict, Banggai Regency. Currently, the problem faced in rice paddy production is a decline in productivity due to excessive waterlogging, which causes damage to the land. Therefore, this study aims to formulate strategies for managing rice fields in Minakarya Village, Moilong. managing rice fields in Minakarya Village, Moilong Subdistrict, Banggai Regency. This study also uses the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis method to evaluate internal and external factors that influence waterlogging problems and formulate relevant strategies. The results of this study show that the recommended strategies for overcoming waterlogging in rice fields in Minakarya Village include improving drainage, applying modern technology, and selecting rice varieties that are resistant to waterlogging.

Abstract

Corn production is one of the strategic commodities in the agricultural sector that plays an important role in supporting food security and increasing farmers’ income. The level of corn production is influenced by various production factors, including land area and seed usage. This study aims to analyze the relationship between corn production, land area, and seed usage in Dolo District, Sigi Regency. The research was conducted in 2025 involving 80 corn farmers selected purposively as respondents. The data used consisted of primary and secondary data collected through surveys, field observations, and structured interviews using questionnaires. The analytical method applied was Pearson correlation analysis to determine the strength and direction of the relationship among variables, which were further interpreted based on their level of statistical significance. The results indicate that land area has a positive and significant relationship with corn production, meaning that the larger the cultivated land, the higher the production obtained. Likewise, the appropriate use of seeds in accordance with technical recommendations and land requirements also shows a positive and significant relationship with increased production. These findings suggest that optimizing land utilization and using proper, high-quality seeds have strong potential to enhance corn productivity and overall production sustainably in Dolo District Sigi Regency.

Abstract

Copra farming is one of the main sources of income for coconut farming households in the archipelago. This study aims to analyze the contribution of copra farming to household income and its economic feasibility in Tatarandang Village, South Bulagi District, Banggai Islands Regency. The study was conducted from June to August 2025. The study population was all 140 coconut farmers. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a 15% error rate, resulting in 34 respondents, selected purposively. Data analysis includes analysis of costs, revenues, income, income contributions, and business feasibility using the R/C Ratio. The results showed that the average income of copra farming was Rp21,463,000 with a total production cost of Rp2,929,933, resulting in a net income of Rp18,533,067 per harvest season. The total income of farmer households was Rp21,751,008 per four months, with the contribution of copra farming reaching 85.21%. The R/C Ratio value of 7.32 (>1) indicates that copra farming is feasible and profitable and is the main supporter of the economy of farmer households in Tatarandang Village.
