Abstract

This study explores the challenges and economic potential of swamp ecosystems in supporting sustainable regional development in Tapin Regency, South Kalimantan. Employing a descriptive-exploratory qualitative approach, data were obtained through field observations, semi-structured interviews with community members, government officials, and stakeholders, as well as analysis of secondary documents. The research focused on two sub-districts—South Candi Laras and North Candi Laras—which are characterized by extensive swamp areas and active community utilization. The results indicate that the swamp ecosystem in the region plays a vital role in supporting local livelihoods across four main sectors: fisheries, swamp-based agriculture, livestock, and tourism. Inland fisheries, including pond and cage cultivation, show significant annual productivity, especially in North Candi Laras. Agriculture, dominated by seasonal rice farming, contributes substantially to regional food security. Livestock activities, particularly duck and buffalo farming, demonstrate compatibility with swamp conditions and offer opportunities for expansion. Tourism, although still underdeveloped, holds strong potential for nature-based and river tourism. However, various constraints impede optimal development, including poor infrastructure, limited access to markets, environmental degradation, and low community capacity in resource governance. The study highlights that community empowerment, local participation, and context-sensitive policy interventions are critical for enhancing the sustainable management of swamp resources. Furthermore, integrating ecological conservation with economic utilization is essential to transform swamp ecosystems into strategic assets for inclusive and resilient development. This research serves as a foundation for further studies on participatory regional planning and ecosystem-based economic strategies in wetland regions.

Abstract

Competency-based nursing education requires students to master clinical skills critical to workforce readiness; however, challenges persist in the field practicum due to limited structured guidance. This study addresses the lack of research on the effectiveness of structured digital e-mentoring programs in Indonesian clinical settings. The purpose was to evaluate the impact of group e-mentoring on the competence and performance of clinical instructors in supporting nursing student guidance at Nurul Hasanah Hospital, Kutacane. A quantitative quasi-experimental design with a pre- and post-test (without control group) was used. Total sampling based on inclusion criteria resulted in 60 respondents, including clinical instructors and nursing students. Competence was measured using the Mentor Competencies Instrument (MCI), and performance was assessed with the Nurse Mentor Performance Assessment tool. Data analysis employed the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to compare pre- and post-intervention scores. Results demonstrated statistically significant improvements in competence (mean increased from 115.2 to 148.3) and performance (mean increased from 55.8 to 66.2), with p-values of 0.000 and 0.001 respectively, indicating a positive effect of preceptorship and mentorship training integrated within the group e-mentoring program. These findings suggest that structured digital e-mentoring enhances clinical instructors' ability to provide effective student guidance, optimizing clinical education in resource-limited settings.

Abstract

The advancement of science and technology requires students to possess strong scientific literacy, particularly in understanding physical phenomena such as elasticity. However, students often demonstrate a low conceptual understanding of elasticity in real-life contexts, posing a challenge in physics education. This study aims to analyze students’ physics literacy skills using the Nature of Science Literacy Test (NOSLiT) instrument. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach with a sample of 30 students from classes A, B, and C. Data were collected through a written test based on the NOSLiT framework, which consists of six scientific literacy indicators, and analyzed quantitatively using achievement categories. The findings revealed that students' overall scientific literacy achievement was categorized as low (43.2%). The highest achievement was on the scientific evidence rule indicator (58.8%, moderate category), while the lowest was on science process skills (24.3%, very low category). These results suggest the need for more interactive and experiment-based instructional strategies to enhance students’ conceptual understanding. Students' responses were mostly descriptive and lacked evidence-based reasoning, with misconceptions about relationships among physics variables still apparent. These findings emphasize the importance of incorporating scientific practices—such as experimentation, evidence utilization, and contextual problem-solving—into teaching. This study was limited to a single school and instrument, which restricts the generalizability of the results. Future research should include a broader sample and adopt a mixed-method approach to obtain more comprehensive insights. Moreover, the development of inquiry-based learning models is crucial to support the advancement of students' scientific literacy.

Abstract

Banana peels, often considered agricultural waste, are rich in bioactive compounds with significant antioxidant potential. This study evaluates the antioxidant activity of a combined ethanol extract from Cavendis (Musa acuminata) and Kepok (Musa paradisiaca) banana peels using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The extraction was performed via maceration with 96% ethanol, yielding 9.13%. Phytochemical analysis identified key compounds including flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids/terpenoids, which are known to exhibit antioxidant properties. The extract demonstrated strong radical scavenging activity with an IC50 of 6.47 ppm and an Antioxidant Activity Index (AAI) of 5.40, comparable to Vitamin C (IC50 = 6.29 ppm; AAI = 5.56). These results indicate a synergistic effect from combining the two banana peel varieties, enhancing antioxidant efficacy beyond that reported for individual peels. This study supports the potential use of Cavendis and Kepok banana peel extracts as sustainable natural antioxidants for application in food preservation, nutraceuticals, and cosmetics. Future work should focus on optimizing extraction methods, detailed phytochemical profiling, stability assessment, and in vivo validation to advance product development and maximize health benefits.

Abstract

The low mathematical problem-solving ability of elementary school students is a crucial issue in mathematics learning that has not been optimally addressed. Initial studies suggest that existing learning tools lack cultural context and integration of innovative learning models. Previous research has focused on partial or higher grade levels, leaving gaps in the development of comprehensive problem-based tools for early grade students with local contexts. This research aimed to create Problem-Based Learning (PBL) tools that incorporate ethnomathematics, with the goal of improving students' mathematical problem-solving skills effectively, practically, and authentically, by utilizing the ADDIE development framework. The research instruments used include learning tools, validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and teacher activity observation sheets. The results demonstrated the validity, practicality, and efficacy of the developed products. The mean percentage of validation for learning module, student response questionnaires, and mathematical problem-solving ability tests was 88.5%, 90%, and 85%, respectively, in the valid category. The average practicality score of the learning tools, assessed through student feedback questionnaires and learning implementation observation forms, was found to be 83.85%, which falls within the practical category. Additionally, the results from the mathematical problem-solving assessments indicated that 80% of the students achieved scores exceeding the minimum competency requirements.

Abstract

Sustainability is a major challenge in the 21st century that must be managed by physics learning. This study aims to explore students' sustainability literacy in the context of energy conservation and transformation through physics questions created with an environmental approach. This study uniquely integrates local pesantren contexts into physics education to address sustainability literacy, offering a novel contribution to science education by incorporating cultural and contextual relevance. With a descriptive exploration of 30 grade X students from senior high school Nurul Jadid, the research was conducted using tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The results on the knowledge dimension showed that students performed very well at low cognitive levels, but higher-order thinking skills, especially evaluation and creation, were still low. In the skill dimension, students' ability to solve problems was moderate, with weaknesses in the aspects of evaluation and reflection. Although students responded well to the contextual problems, many had difficulty in drawing energy transformation schemes. These results indicate the need for more practical and contextualized learning to strengthen sustainability literacy in physics learning.

Abstract

Understanding how young people perceive renewable and non-renewable energy sources is essential for aligning education with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study explores the perspectives of 748 Indonesian high school students on solar panel versus fossil fuels through an open-ended question. Different from previous studies, this work uses semantic network analysis to map the conceptual connections in students’ understanding, which provides us a structural perspective on students’ perceptions. Using semantic network analysis with NetMiner, 748 Indonesian students’ responses were categorized into five ideas: Fossil fuels formation (G1), Solar panel role in sustainability (G2), Practical benefits of solar panels (G3), Non-renewable resource concern (G4), and Unsustainable fossil fuels use (G5). The findings indicate that students have a basic understanding of environmental and resource-related issues. Most responses remain surface level with limited demonstration of critical thinking. Furthermore, students’ ideas primarily address the environmental and economic pillars of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) while the social pillar is rarely discussed. These results highlight the need to improve ESD practices in Indonesia by explicitly integrating social dimensions into sustainability education. Empowering students to consider who is affected by sustainability decisions, and how they can contribute to fairer, more inclusive solutions can help to increase not only environmental awareness but also foster civic responsibility and empathy.

Abstract

Students often view mathematics negatively because of the emphasis on memorizing formulas rather than conceptual understanding. Moreover, the delivery of theories is carried out without using learning media. As a result, students find it difficult to understand the material, especially in students' numeracy skills due to the minimal use of learning media. This study was conducted based on a gap in previous research, namely that there has been no research that shows the development of concrete media that focuses on improving numeracy as well as improving students' numeracy through story problems that are relevant to everyday life. The purpose of this study is to develop Calbox Jurang learning media to overcome problems in mathematics subjects, especially addition and subtraction materials and to improve the numeracy skills of class I students of MI Al Falah Kebonagung. This Calbox Jurang media provides an interactive learning experience with the visualization of concrete objects so that it can help students to explore mathematical concepts actively, compared to other concrete learning media that tend to be less likely to provide opportunities for students to be actively involved in the learning process. This research method uses R&D research with the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Data collection techniques use observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. The results of the validation of design experts obtained 82.5%, material experts 87.5% and language experts 85%. From the results of the three media validators, it can be categorized as suitable for use. The pretest results obtained 63.75%, and there was an increase in the posttest results of 90.75% and the effectiveness test results were 0.74 in the high category. So, it can be concluded that the development of Calbox Jurang learning media can improve students' numeracy skills and can be used as a learning medium for addition and subtraction materials.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical literacy skills of junior high school students on the geometry of tubes and cones by applying the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model with a team teaching strategy assisted by Educaplay digital media in terms of student learning styles. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of 30 eighth-grade students, with an in-depth analysis focused on three students, each representing a dominant learning style: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. The research instruments included a learning style questionnaire, a mathematics literacy test based on local cultural contexts, and semi-structured interviews. The results indicated that visual learners tended to excel in interpreting visual contexts but struggled with abstract mathematical formulation. Auditory learners demonstrated understanding through verbal explanations but showed weaknesses in procedural aspects, while kinesthetic learners exhibited strong spatial reasoning through hands-on experiences. This study reveals that implementing the PBL model, integrated with team teaching strategies and the interactive media Educaplay, positively impacts the development of students’ mathematical literacy, taking into account differences in learning styles and their connection to local cultural contexts.
