Abstract

Sukatani's song "Pay! Pay! Pay!" is a musical expression that sharply criticizes the practice of extortion and corruption that are considered deeply rooted in the police institution. This study aims to analyze how the song's lyrics construct a discourse of resistance through the perspective of Pierre Bourdieu's theory, specifically the concepts of habitus, capital, and arena. Using a critical discourse analysis approach, this study reveals that the song's lyrics not only convey individual grievances but also represent the collective social experiences experienced by society when faced with unequal power structures. The community's habitus, oppressed by power relations, is reflected in the satirical expressions and protest tones that emerge in the song. Meanwhile, Sukatani's symbolic and cultural capital is utilized as a means to challenge the dominance of actors within the police arena. The research findings indicate that music, in this context, functions as an effective medium for social criticism and is able to foster critical awareness of structural injustice. Thus, this song becomes a form of cultural resistance that reveals economic inequality while mobilizing community solidarity for social change.   Keywords: Discourse, Corruption, Pierre Bourdieu, Social Critique

Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has generated significant transformations in government public relations practices in Indonesia. This study aims to examine how AI is utilized, conceptualized, and integrated by government public relations practitioners affiliated with IPRA Humas East Java. Specifically, the study explores the maturity levels of AI adoption, the shifting roles of public relations professionals, emerging ethical and professional challenges, and the readiness of human resources in responding to technological transformation. This research employs a qualitative explanatory approach using Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with public relations practitioners from various regional government institutions. The data were analyzed through the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña qualitative analytic framework, involving processes of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings indicate that AI integration within government public relations remains uneven across institutions. Most practitioners employ AI primarily at the level of technical automation, including content creation, voice-over production, visual design, and idea generation. Several institutions have advanced toward big data–driven applications such as media monitoring and sentiment analysis, while only a limited number have adopted AI as a tool for supporting strategic communication. Additional findings reveal the existence of an inter-institutional “AI readiness gap,” the emergence of FOMO-driven AI adoption, limited digital literacy, and concerns related to ethics, information accuracy, and data security. The study proposes a Hybrid Human–AI Government PR Practice model as a more adaptive framework for guiding public relations work within the evolving landscape of technological integration..   Keywords: Government Public Relations, Artificial Intelligence, IPRA Humas Jatim, Excellence Theory

Abstract

This study explores the responses of Indonesian netizens to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi on Instagram. Using a qualitative approach with a netnographic method, this research observes netizen conversations in the comment sections of five viral posts related to the disaster. Data were purposively collected, with a sample of 139 comments from a total of 695 comments. The findings reveal five major themes of conversation or netizen responses: (1) religious and social, which include religious responses to the disaster and criticism of local behavior; (2) cognitive and interpretative views on the disaster, which include historical comparisons, validation and interpretation of the disaster’s impact, field observations, access to natural tourism safety, political interpretations of the disaster, and humorous responses to the disaster; (3) disaster mitigation, which includes disappointment with disaster mitigation and criticism of the government; (4) media and information, which covers media imbalance, doubts about information, selectivity of information, and the aesthetics of documentation; and (5) public mobility, which includes netizen responses to the impact of the disaster on mobility and transportation. The research findings also highlight the role of social media as an alternative source of information and a space for public criticism, as well as revealing challenges related to misinformation and disaster aesthetics in digital space. This study reinforces the urgency of developing disaster communication that educates, buids awareness, fosters sympathy and empathy, and cultivates public solidarity in the digital space. The goverment and disaster-related agencies can use the research results to manage disaster information disseminated to netizens on social media and to respond more responsively to netizen dynamics when a disaster occurs.   Keywords: Disaster Communication, Indonesian Netizen Responses, Lewotobi Eruption, Social Media, Netnography

Abstract

Bullying remains a serious problem in adolescent development, particularly due to its widespread impact on psychological, social, and emotional aspects. Adolescents who experience bullying tend to face obstacles in forming social relationships, including a decline in interpersonal communication skills that play an important role in daily interactions. This study uses a descriptive approach with the aim of identifying patterns of interpersonal communication and aspects of character strengths that emerge in adolescents who have experienced bullying. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and relevant measurement instruments to gain an in-depth understanding of the psychological condition of the subjects. The subjects in this study were three adolescents who were victims of bullying. The results of the study show that adolescent victims of bullying generally tend to withdraw from social interactions, experience barriers in expressing their thoughts, stress, anxiety, lack of motivation to study, and emotions, and exhibit low self-confidence in communication. In terms of character strengths, it was found that some character strengths such as courage, perseverance, and emotional regulation had declined, although some aspects such as empathy and gratitude were still evident in some subjects.   Keywords: Interpersonal Communication, Character Strengths, Bullying

Abstract

The phenomenon of bullying has undergone significant changes in the digital age. What used to be limited to physical spaces like schools or communities has now shifted to cyberbullying that crosses social and geographic boundaries. This article discusses bullying as a new challenge in the digital era, adopting a human rights perspective. Bullying practices not only violate the rights to dignity and equality but also threaten global human security. The article analyzes how identity-based cyberbullying creates a dilemma between freedom of expression and protection from hate speech, using a review of literature and international documents that emphasize the need for global regulation. The findings show that digital-age bullying is a serious threat to human rights because of its anonymous, fast-spreading, and cross-border nature. Therefore, international policies, cooperation, and social diplomacy are necessary to strike a balance between free speech and the protection of individuals who are victims of discrimination. This article stresses that identity-based bullying in the digital age must be viewed as a human rights violation that requires a collective response across nations.   Keywords: Bullying, identity Politics, Digital Era, Human Rights.
