Abstract

Children who live in Perumahan BTN Puskopad Jalur 7 Bawah Sentani, Kabupaten Jayapura, experience difficulties learning physics. One of the factors causing this is the lack of sufficient support from the school environment and family. Parents hand over all teaching responsibilities to teachers, while teachers at school cannot teach optimally. Teachers only depend on textbooks, and children are forced to memorize lesson material according to what is written in the book. Children are also unable to carry out practical work as they should because of inadequate laboratory equipment. This style of learning makes it difficult for children to understand physics well. To learn physics, children need concrete scientific experience. Based on this background, the community service team held activities by making simple teaching aids related to the subject matter of light. Children are expected to be able to understand the properties of light, namely that it can travel in a straight line, can penetrate transparent surfaces of objects, can be reflected, and can be refracted. Apart from that, it is also hoped that children will be interested in physics lessons through this activity. This service is carried out using experimental methods with tools and materials that are easily found in everyday life. The benefit of this service is that it provides knowledge for children when studying the properties of light in science subjects at formal schools. The results achieved from this service activity show that the service participants understand the properties of ligh t, are satisfied and happy while carrying out light experiments, and as many as 75% of children are interested in studying physics.

Abstract

The Salvation Army Cinere Dormitory is a dormitory where most of the residents are prospective Salvation Army chaplains (cadets). The Cinere dormitory is occupied by 82 cadets. The activities carried out by cadets in the dormitory include spiritual formation and doing daily work according to the schedule set by the dormitory management. Data management, practical task scheduling, spiritual formation are all done manually. As a result, historical data is difficult to find when needed, there is often an imbalance in workload among cadets, duplication of work schedule arrangements and a lack of objective assessment of soft skills and cadet personalities. This community service activity goals is to create an information system for managing the activities of Cinere dormitory residents. The methods used were interviews about system requirements, system creation, outreach to partners and evaluation of system usability. The results of the activity are a system that can help dormitory managers in managing cadet activities and digitizing soft skills assessments, as well as a guide to using the system. The system were socialized in October 2023 by providing direct training to dormitory managers and residents. Evaluation of the usability of the system was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 12 cadets, 3 dormitory supervisors and 1 system admin. The evaluation results show a usability level of 87%. It can be concluded that the system created is useful to help manage Cinere dormitory residents.

Abstract

Stunting or short stature is still one of the main nutritional problems among toddlers in Indonesia that has not been resolved. Children is stunted if the height is below -2 SD from the WHO standards. A total of 2.335 children in Jayapura City detected have stunting by the end of 2023. Besides social-economic problems and poor parental education, the practice of local culture in Papua also presents a challenge to resolving stunting. Therefore, the aim of this community service activity is to increase the knowledge and understanding of parents at the AHP (Great Children of Papua) School, Hamadi, Jayapura City regarding stunting using the parenting classes method. The number of participants was 48 people. Parenting classes activities were carried out in conjunction with growth monitoring activities to kindergarten and elementary school children at AHP schools, with a total of 64 students. From all community service activities through parenting classes carried out, it appears that the community has a better understanding of the meaning of stunting, the causes of stunting and the dangers of stunting on children's cognitive growth and development. Apart from that, from the results of monitoring growth in kindergarten and elementary school children based on TB/U, it was found that 10 children were stunted.

Abstract

Early Childhood Education is the main foundation for strengthening character, including the character of mutual cooperation. Although the character has been known in children, but along with the progress of the era and triggered by the increasing busyness of parents, the character of mutual cooperation has faded and been replaced by a high individualistic attitude. There needs to be an effort to re-cultivate the character of mutual cooperation in children. The devotion to strengthening the character of mutual cooperation at PAUD Pelita aims to help early childhood in developing the character of mutual cooperation from an early age. Children are given practical experience in sharing, working together, and supporting each other in various daily activities at PAUD Pelita. It is hoped that these positive values and attitudes will continue to develop along with the growth and development of children when they continue their education to a higher level. This devotion is carried out using the lecture method, project method, and role-play method about the character values of mutual cooperation in Early Childhood. The results of the devotion show that children at PAUD Pelita are very enthusiastic and show a high interest in mutual cooperation. Of the 27 children at PAUD Pelita, 18 of them participated in cleaning the school room and yard by working together with enthusiasm. Meanwhile, 7 children only participated occasionally, and 2 other children were just spectators. This means that most children (66.67%) showed high enthusiasm in working together to clean the school room and yard, and 25.93% of children only participated occasionally. Meanwhile, a small number of children (7.41%) were just spectators. Likewise, with the project method using building blocks, 22 of them were involved, and only 5 children remained silent. These data show that the majority of children (81.48%) were actively involved in the project method using building blocks and only 18.52% of children were not involved. These data show that most children at PAUD Pelita actively participate both in cleaning the school environment and in the project method using building blocks. Thus, it can be concluded that the children of Pelita PAUD have quite strong roots in the character of mutual cooperation, but there is a lack of support from parents and the environment.

Abstract

Papuan children generally like hearing and reading stories with Papuan backgrounds. Unfortunately, there are not many children stories of this kind. Therefore, we feel it is necessary to train elementary school principals and teachers in Jayapura Municipality to write children stories. The aim of this activity is to train principals and teachers (a) to write children stories with Papuan background, (b) understand the stages of writing children stories, (c) to be able to infuse nature and culture and (d) to rewrite folkltales in children language. This activity was carried out in Horison Hotel Padang Bulan in February 2024 and involved teams from Cenderawasih University and the Papua Province Language Center. There were twenty teachers and principals from various elementary schools in Jayapura Municipality attended this training. The team worked together to prepare material about the importance of children stories, the structure of children stories, story grading and story boards. The team also involved Tobati and Skouw language translators because several children stories were translated into those languages. The end of this activity shows that the teachers (1) are able to create children stories with a Papuan background using the rules they have learned; (2) are able to produce children stories based on the reading grades. Abstract

School is a place for intellectual development of students. Efforts to create a healthy school environment affect the comfort and effectiveness of teaching and learning activities so that optimal results will be obtained in terms of cognitive, psychomotor and the formation of attitudes and behavior of students. To realize a healthy school environment, appropriate, planned, integrated, and sustainable efforts are needed, one of which is by managing organic waste in schools. The application of humic acid and biopores as alternatives for processing organic waste in the school environment can bring many benefits, such as reducing the amount of organic waste dumped into the environment, reducing negative impacts on the environment and human health. This community service program is carried out using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, namely research carried out in a participatory manner and then applied to action. The target participants of the community service program are grade X students of SMA Ma'arif Karangawen. The activities to be carried out are training and mentoring. Participatory action research used in this community service is an implementation of a theory of biotechnology (utilization of microorganisms) through the development of actions, or several actions to make environmental changes, namely through training and mentoring in making compost using a composter and with appropriate technology in the form of biopores to overcome puddles of water around the SMA Ma'arif Karangawen office. The results of the analysis of participant response questionnaire data showed a positive response from participants of 73% and 27% negative responses, this means that training and mentoring activities for organic waste processing are effectively carried out in schools. Therefore, the application of humic acid and biopores as an alternative to organic waste processing in the school environment is worthy of being implemented and developed further.  Keywords: Humic Acid; biopori ; Participatory Action Research (PAR); limbah organik.
