Abstract

This study aims to determine the growth rate of C. racemosa reared in laboratory-scale controlled tanks using the recirculating air system (RAS) method. This research was conducted from June to August 2024 at the Mariculture Laboratory of Tual State Fisheries Polytechnic. C. racemosa sea grape seedlings were taken from the waters of Letman, Southeast Maluku with the characteristics of fresh, many grains, bright green, clean and free of other types of seaweed. Maintenance was carried out in baskets in controlled tanks. The results showed that C. racemosa cultivated using the RAS method gave varying yields among baskets in tanks with the highest weight difference in (K1) of 901 grams and the lowest in (K3) of 416 grams. The absolute growth rate of sea grapes (lat) in basket 1 and basket 4 is better than basket 2, basket 3. The percentage of daily growth rate of C. racemosa cultivated shows the highest percentage in K1 by 40% and the lowest in K3 by 12%. Based on the results obtained, the percentage of lat growth with the RAS method can be categorized as feasible, because the percentage of daily growth of seaweed is around 23% per day

Abstract

The coral reef ecosystem on Karimunjawa Island has an important ecosystem service value for the socio-economic life of the community. The many tourism activities result in pollution in the waters that can disrupt and even damage the balance of the coral reef ecosystem. This study was conducted to determine the extent of the impact of pollution caused and to develop an appropriate coastal pollution management strategy in overcoming pollution problems due to waste disposal activities. The method used in the study is the exploratory descriptive method. The exploratory descriptive method is a research method that is observational of an object in its natural environment, without any treatment of the object being studied. Data collection was carried out at 4 research locations, namely Tanjung Gelam, Karimunjawa, Batulawang and Sntok. The study can be analyzed using the CPCE (Coral Point Count with Excel) method. This method is used to determine the condition of coral reefs at a location. The highest value was obtained at the Sintok location while the lowest condition was on Karimunjawa Island. The average percentage summarizes live corals included in the moderate to very good category ranging from 23.89% - 77.67%. The results of the analysis show that in the horizontal cross-section the condition of the coral reef is better compared to the vertical condition. The weight of waste in the coastal area is highest in the Karimunjawa area and the least is in the Sintok Island area.

Abstract

Farmer groups serve as a crucial medium for enhancing farmers’ skills, while agricultural extension officers play an important role in assisting and facilitating farmers to become more productive and competitive. This study aimed to (1) analyse the significant role of farmer groups in supporting horticultural farmers in Limumir village, (2) examine the role of agricultural extension officers in horticultural farmer groups, and (3) analyse the correlation between the role of agricultural extension officers and the function of farmer groups. This study employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Research population consisted of 68 members of horticultural farmer groups in Limumir village, from three farmer groups: Maju Bersama, Suka Maju, and Fajar Tani. Data were collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires. The data were then analysed using Spearman's Rank Correlation test to examine the correlation between the role of agricultural extension officers and the function of farmer groups. The results revealed that the role of agricultural extension officers as facilitators and assistants to farmers had a significant impact on the efficiency of farmer groups in learning as collaboration aspects. Farmer groups with intensive supervision from agricultural extension officers showed increased technology adoption, better access to the market, and higher productivity. However, the role of agricultural extension officers in marketing was low, so a number of farmers still face challenges in accessing broader markets.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the global nutritional problems in children, where around 161 million toddlers in the world experience stunting. Education and family understanding of nutrition have an impact on stunting. West Halmahera Regency ranks first in the number of stunted toddlers compared to other districts/cities in North Maluku. The prevalence of children under five (toddlers) who have short and very short nutritional status in 2018 was 35.26%. When viewed from the consumption patterns of toddlers in Bangko Hamlet, they generally consume more than one type of carbohydrate, including rice, cassava, and sago. Most of them only consume vegetable side dishes such as tempeh and tofu 2-6 times per week. As for animal-based dishes, more than 90% of them consume these every day and at least once a day. The general objective of this PKM is to improve the knowledge and skills of mothers of toddlers in compiling menus and processing local fish-based food ingredients as an effort to prevent stunting in toddlers. The method used in this study was to socialize and demonstrate fish-based menus in an effort to reduce stunting rates as a form of prevention. The results of community service can be seen from the increase in community knowledge in three aspects: knowledge of efforts to prevent stunting (89.1%), knowledge of making banana fish porridge (73%), and knowledge of fish roulade with the addition of carrots (67.6%).

Abstract

The high cost of commercial fish feed and the limited availability of highly nutritious, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly feed ingredients pose challenges in producing high-quality tilapia fingerlings (Oreochromis niloticus). The efficiency of nutrient absorption in fish digestion and growth performance is generally evaluated through the feed conversion ratio (FCR) and digestibility values. This study aimed to determine the effect of substituting commercial feed with fermented Azolla microphyll meal on the proximate composition and digestibility of tilapia fingerlings. The study was conducted from June to July 2024 at the Tanabangka Village Fish Hatchery Unit, Bajeng Barat District, Gowa Regency, and at the Brackishwater Preliminary Aquaculture Research Laboratory in Maros. The research employed a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replicates. The treatment groups were as follows: A) 100% commercial feed as control, B) 25% commercial feed and 75% Azolla meal, C) 50% commercial feed and 50% fermented Azolla microphyll meal, and D) 75% commercial feed and 25% fermented Azolla microphylla meal. The results showed that fermented Azolla microphyll meal can serve as a viable alternative to commercial feed. A feed composition of 50% commercial feed and 50% fermented Azolla microphylla meal yielded an FCR of 1.37±0.05. Meanwhile, combining 75% commercial feed with 25% fermented Azolla microphyll meal produced total and protein digestibility values of 84.51±0.78% and 92.47±0.59%, respectively. These findings suggest that integrating fermented Azolla microphylla into feed formulations can enhance nutrient utilization efficiency and reduce dependence on commercial feed in tilapia aquaculture.
