Abstract

Health, Sicknesses or Diseases in Man are part and parcel of human existence. Islamic Bioethics cover all these life time events from before birth to death and after death. Islamic Thought has indispensable contributions in and is inseparable from Islamic Bioethics. Major Organ Failures are increasingly prevalent and affect the quality of life and survival of enormous number of patients. Allotransplantation gives the ‘second’ life to these patients. However, the supply gap of Human Organs results in phenomenal bioethical and legal problems. Xenotransplantation, especially Porcine Xenotransplantation, can solve this supply gap and those consequential problems. A systematic analysis using English Publications is done to ascertain various bioethical aspects of Xenotransplantation as applicable from the Islamic Perspectives. The authors argue that the prohibition of Pork in Islam is metaphysical. The current permissibility for PXT may be premature and over-simplifies a much-complicated issue. Public interest is often under-considered in Organ Transplantation deliberations. The contributions of Islamic Thought and Islamic Bioethics in Health, Sickness, Treatment, PXT and theological objections to PXT are analysed and discussed. Muslim Countries may have the obligation of promoting and ensuring the success of PXT especially for the interests of under-privileged Muslims.

Abstract

The plant anatomy course studies the internal structures of plant organs, which cannot be observed directly, making it a challenging subject for students. Currently, no instructional media presents direct observation images of the epidermis and stomata of bougainvillea plants, which hinders students’ conceptual understanding. This study aims to develop a plant anatomy e-atlas focusing on the epidermis and stomata structures of bougainvillea (Bougainvillea spp.) as an instructional medium, and to evaluate its feasibility. The anatomical structures of the epidermis and stomata were identified from observations of eight bougainvillea varieties found at Widya Mandira Catholic University in Kupang. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model. The study began with an analysis of the epidermis and stomata structures using the replica method. The results were presented as images and then designed into an atlas format. The feasibility of the e-atlas was evaluated through expert validation. The findings revealed that: (1) The epidermal structure of bougainvillea leaves varies, with some varieties showing elongated and irregular shapes, while others exhibit pentagonal or hexagonal shapes; (2) Five types of stomata were identified: anomocytic, diacytic, paracytic, actinocytic, and anisocytic; (3) The validation results from the content expert and media expert were 84.44% and 83%, respectively, both falling into the 'highly valid' category. In conclusion, although all bougainvillea varieties belong to the same genus, they exhibit diverse epidermal and stomatal structures, and the developed e-atlas is feasible for use as instructional media in plant anatomy courses for Biology Education students.

Abstract

Students’ understanding of genetic concepts is often hindered by the abstract and complex nature of the material, particularly because genetic processes occur at the molecular level and cannot be directly observed. Based on a preliminary survey conducted in the Biology Education Program at UIN Jurai Siwo Lampung, most students perceive genetics as a difficult and overly theoretical subject. This study aims to develop a genetics textbook integrated with local case study observation assignments to enhance students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The research employed the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), involving expert validation by content and media specialists, as well as a limited trial with students. The instruments used included validation sheets and student response questionnaires, which were analyzed quantitatively using a Likert scale and percentage of achievement. Validation results showed that the product received a score of 92% from the content expert and 85.3% from the media expert, both categorized as “Highly Appropriate.” The trial with students yielded an average score of 83.9%, falling under the “Highly Practical” category. The study concludes that the genetics textbook based on local case studies is valid and practical for helping students understand abstract genetic concepts in a contextual manner, while also supporting the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Environmental education plays a pivotal role in fostering sustainability awareness and behavioral change, especially when supported by effective pedagogical tools. In recent years, the integration of digital technologies—including mobile applications, augmented reality, videos, and interactive platforms—has increasingly reshaped traditional teaching strategies to enhance cognitive development and environmental literacy. However, persistent challenges such as limited resources, technological infrastructure, and teacher preparedness continue to hinder widespread adoption. This study contributes by mapping how digital learning media have evolved within environmental education research, highlighting conceptual shifts and emerging interdisciplinary intersections. Unlike prior reviews, this article offers a combined bibliometric and qualitative analysis of 17 Scopus-indexed articles published 2018-2023, using Scopus AI and VOSviewer tools. Results show that digital media—such as gamification and social platforms—appear to be more promising than conventional methods in promoting environmental understanding and engagement. The most prominent research themes include environmental education, sustainable development, and learning media, with increasing attention to mobile learning, augmented reality, and interdisciplinary strategies. Five key conceptual clusters emerged: (1) sustainability integration in higher education, (2) innovative pedagogies, (3) links between environmental literacy and behavior, (4) cross-disciplinary approaches (e.g., through language learning), and (5) utilization of digital media. These findings underscore the transformative potential of technology while advocating for adaptive and inclusive learning designs. Nevertheless, the results should be interpreted in light of limitations related to database scope and publication context. Future research should investigate long-term behavioral outcomes, culturally adaptive media design, applications of AI, and strategies to bridge equity gaps across diverse educational settings.

Abstract

Authentic assessment holds a crucial role in modern biology education as it supports competency-based evaluations that enable students to apply scientific knowledge in real-world settings. This study presents a bibliometric analysis of research trends on authentic assessment in biology learning using data from the Scopus database. Employing a quantitative approach, the study analyzed the temporal distribution, international collaboration, dominant keywords, and thematic evolution from 39 selected articles through tools such as co-authorship network analysis, keyword co-occurrence mapping, and thematic evolution analysis. Results indicated a significant rise in publications since 2018, peaking during the COVID-19 pandemic due to shifts in assessment methods for online learning. The disciplinary distribution showed a predominance of social sciences (26.1%) intersecting with biology and environmental science. The United States and the UK emerged as leading contributors, with support from institutions like the National Science Foundation. Keyword analysis identified two major clusters: animal-based assessment (motor theme) and molecular biology (emerging theme). However, the literature showed limited representation from developing countries and minimal exploration of advanced technologies. This study contributes by (1) mapping scientific developments in authentic assessment research, (2) offering a bibliometric analysis protocol applicable to similar areas, and (3) suggesting future directions including global collaboration, validation of long-term instruments, and focus on niche topics like biodiversity-based assessments. The findings offer practical implications for designing context-responsive assessment guidelines. Nonetheless, the study is constrained by its reliance on Scopus and English-language sources, potentially excluding other relevant contributions.
