Abstract

Teachers’ productivity and wellbeing are essential for ensuring the quality of education. These aspects are influenced by principals’ mental health, which shapes leadership effectiveness, and by school climate, which determines the level of support and motivation experienced by teachers. In Indonesia, limited studies have simultaneously examined the impact of these two factors on teachers’ outcomes. This study investigates the influence of principals’ mental health and school climate on teachers’ work productivity and wellbeing in public elementary schools in Garut Regency. Using a quantitative approach with canonical correlation analysis, data were collected from 175 teachers across 33 schools through structured questionnaires. The findings reveal that principals’ mental health and school climate significantly affect teachers’ productivity, while their impact on teachers’ wellbeing is weaker yet still significant. The novelty of this study lies in the application of canonical correlation analysis to examine the simultaneous relationship between leadership psychology, school climate, and teacher outcomes. The results emphasize the importance of fostering principals’ mental health and creating supportive school climates as strategic efforts to enhance teacher performance and wellbeing.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of work motivation, salary, and work environment on the work discipline of teachers in private junior high schools within Sub Rayon 09, Semarang City. The research employed a quantitative approach using survey methods with data collected through questionnaires distributed to teachers. Data analysis was carried out using multiple regression techniques to test the partial and simultaneous effects of the independent variables on teacher discipline. The findings revealed that work motivation had a positive and significant effect on teacher discipline, indicating that teachers with higher motivation tend to demonstrate stronger discipline in their professional responsibilities. Salary showed a positive but relatively small effect, suggesting that financial rewards still contribute to discipline, although not dominantly. Meanwhile, the work environment had a significant positive impact, emphasizing that conducive and supportive working conditions encourage discipline. Simultaneously, the three variables significantly influenced teacher discipline, with motivation emerging as the most dominant factor. These results highlight the importance of integrating intrinsic and extrinsic factors to enhance teacher discipline in educational settings.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group counseling services using the Rational Emotive Imagery (REI) technique in enhancing the mental well-being of university students. The research employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design, involving eight students from the Guidance and Counseling Education Program, Class of 2022, who demonstrated low levels of mental well-being. Participants were purposively selected based on pretest results and their willingness to attend all service sessions. The REI technique, which is part of the Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) approach, focuses on individuals’ ability to imagine stress-inducing situations and transform irrational beliefs into more rational emotional responses. The findings revealed a significant improvement in the mean scores of mental well-being, increasing from 25.63 (low category) in the pretest to 45.25 (moderate category) in the posttest. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test yielded a significance value of 0.012 (p < 0.05), indicating a meaningful difference between conditions before and after the intervention. These results demonstrate that group counseling services using the REI technique are effective in improving emotional regulation, resilience, and students’ overall mental well-being. Therefore, this technique is recommended for implementation in counseling programs, particularly in higher education, as a strategic intervention to support students’ mental health in coping with academic pressures and campus life challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the effectiveness of mastering content services about career self-understanding among high school graduates who do not continue to higher education. The main focus of the research is how these content services can help adolescents recognize their interests, abilities, work values, personality, and life roles as a basis for making appropriate career decisions. The method used is a quantitative approach with a pretest and post-test design on a sample of high school graduates who have participated in the career self-understanding content services. The results show a significant improvement in mastering the concept of career self-understanding after participating in the content services. These findings indicate that effectively designed content services can be a useful tool for adolescents who do not pursue higher education in planning and developing their careers independently. The practical implication of this study is the importance of providing structured career content services to support adolescents' transition to the workforce or other alternative pathways.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of the School Literacy Movement (Gerakan Literasi Sekolah/GLS) and school library facilities on the reading interest of fifth-grade students in public elementary schools in Sukarami District, Palembang City. Employing a quantitative approach with a survey method, data were collected from 347 students selected through proportional random sampling out of a population of 2,658 students. The research design involved multiple linear regression analysis complemented by t-tests and F-tests to examine both partial and simultaneous effects. Findings demonstrate that GLS significantly enhances students’ reading interest by fostering consistent reading habits and cultivating a literacy-friendly environment. School library facilities, including the availability of relevant collections, comfortable spaces, and active literacy services, were also found to exert a positive effect, although their influence was less dominant compared to GLS. Simultaneously, both factors interact to strengthen literacy culture in schools. These results highlight the necessity of integrating structured literacy programs with the development of supportive library infrastructures to achieve sustainable improvements in elementary students’ reading engagement.

Abstract

Based on the researcher’s observations at a private vocational high school in Medan, adolescents who were victims of bullying exhibited low levels of self-esteem. Low self-esteem can exacerbate feelings of anxiety, depression, and social isolation, which are often experienced by bullying victims. Bullying itself refers to any form of oppression or violence intentionally carried out by an individual or a stronger group, with the primary aim of harming others, and is typically conducted repeatedly. This study aims to determine whether group counseling using the assertive training technique is effective in enhancing students’ self-esteem. The research employed a quantitative approach with a Quasi-Experimental method using a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The participants consisted of eight students with low self-esteem, selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument used was a self-esteem questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test, which yielded a Z-value of -2.524 with a p-value of 0.012. Since the p-value < 0.05, the results indicate a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. It can be concluded that group counseling with the assertive training technique is effective in improving self-esteem among adolescents who are victims of bullying.

Abstract

This study explores the management of the Love-Based Curriculum in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) in Palembang City, focusing on planning, implementation, and evaluation, as well as identifying enabling and inhibiting factors. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research involved principals or vice principals for curriculum affairs, teachers, and students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and document analysis, then analyzed with Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that curriculum planning was conducted collaboratively by aligning instructional documents with the official format of the Ministry of Religious Affairs while retaining long-standing positive practices. Implementation emphasized persuasive communication, teachers’ exemplary conduct (uswah hasanah), and participatory methods such as discussions, storytelling, and role-playing to build empathy and cooperation among students. Evaluation combined cognitive and affective dimensions through continuous observation, attitude records, and non-material reinforcement. Enabling factors included strong synergy between family-based and school-based education and the deeply rooted religious culture of Palembang’s community. However, challenges emerged from teachers’ heavy administrative workload and unequal training opportunities, which hindered consistent practice. Overall, the Love-Based Curriculum was effectively applied, offering valuable insights for educators and policymakers in developing humanistic, Islamic value-based learning strategies.

Abstract

One of the challenges faced by elementary school students in learning science concepts is low achievement, partly due to limited teaching materials that match their diverse characteristics. This study aims to develop a valid, practical, and effective Science and Social Studies (IPAS) module based on differentiated learning. The research used a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, expert validation, and learning tests with fourth-grade students at SDN 9 Rantau Bayur, South Sumatra. The results indicate that the module developed meets high standards of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Its implementation in the classroom significantly improved student learning outcomes, showing that differentiated learning can enhance students’ understanding and engagement. The module not only serves as teaching material but also as a tool for teachers to implement learning that accommodates students’ readiness, interests, and profiles. The findings suggest that differentiated learning-based modules are a promising strategy to improve the quality of IPAS instruction in elementary schools. Furthermore, this study can serve as a reference for the development of similar teaching materials in other subjects or different levels of education.
