Abstract

This study is motivated by the fact that the learning process of the Instructional Multimedia course still relies on printed (non-digital) textbooks and does not sufficiently foster students’ analytical and problem-solving skills, either individually or in groups. As a result, students’ competence in developing instructional multimedia has not shown significant improvement. This condition is attributed to the previously used learning materials, which were less practical and ineffective when applied in a course that requires intensive case analysis, problem-solving, assignments, and practicum activities. The objective of this study is to develop Learning Object Materials based on the Case Method and Team-Based Project, integrated with Dompu local wisdom, that are valid, practical, and effective. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method, adopting the 4-D (Four-D) Model by Thiagarajan, consisting of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. The validation results indicate that the developed product achieved an average score of 4.2 (valid category), respondent score of 4.13 (practical category), and an N-Gain percentage of 58% (moderately effective category). Thus, the product is considered feasible to be implemented as an alternative Learning Object Material to enhance the quality of learning.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is one of the essential basic skills in primary school, although in reality many students still have difficulty understanding the content of texts. This study aims to improve the reading comprehension skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 91/VI Rantau Panjang VI through the Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review (SQ3R) strategy. This study employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of two meetings. Sixteen students and one fifth-grade teacher served as subjects in this study. Observations of teacher and student activities, as well as reading comprehension tests, were collected as data for this study and analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. The results of the study showed an increase in teacher activity from 73.98% in Cycle I to 88.40% in Cycle II, while student activity increased from 73.66% in Cycle I to 88.44% in Cycle II. The mean reading comprehension test scores also increased from 72.50 with a completion rate of 62.5% in Cycle I to 83.69 with a completion rate of 93.8% in Cycle II. These findings prove that the application of the SQ3R strategy is effective in improving primary school students' reading comprehension skills and encouraging their active involvement in the learning process.

Abstract

Reading literacy is a basic skill that plays an important role in the learning success of elementary school students. However, observation results show that third-grade students of SDN 24 Kota Bima still experience difficulties in understanding reading texts, finding main ideas, and reorganizing information. This study aims to examine the effect of the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) model on students' reading literacy skills. The method used was a quasi-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design and involved 18 students as a sample. The instrument was a reading literacy questionnaire consisting of 14 Likert-scale statements. The results showed that the average pretest score of students was 62.78, categorized as sufficient, while the average posttest score increased to 83.33, categorized as good. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test showed that the pretest data were normally distributed (p = 0.073 > 0.05), while the posttest data were not normally distributed (p = 0.008 < 0.05). However, the paired t-test results showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results. Thus, the implementation of the TaRL model has a positive effect on improving students' reading literacy skills and can be used as an alternative innovative learning model in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of using wordwall interactive board-based media on student learning outcomes in the subject of classification of living things. The study used a quasi-experimental design with two groups, namely an experimental class that used interactive wordwall media and a control class that applied conventional learning methods. The research subjects consisted of 64 students who were divided evenly into two classes, 32 students in each class. The research instrument was a multiple-choice test administered at the pretest and post-test stages. The data were analyzed using an independent t-test after fulfilling the assumptions of normality and homogeneity. The results showed that the average post-test score of the experimental class (86.67) was higher than that of the control class (71.67). The independent t-test produced a t-value of 6.073 with a significance of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two groups. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of interactive wordwall media contributes positively to improving student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Anxiety and critical thinking skills are crucial factors influencing students' academic performance and learning outcomes, particularly in subjects perceived as difficult. This study attempted find out the relative effectiveness of CTCA, Gbeleyi 1.0 and the lecture method on students’ anxiety, and critical thinking skills to logic gate. A mixed-method design was adopted for data collection. The study population comprises of 213 (JS) two students who at the time of the study had not taken the (BECE) to ascertain the level of potency of the methods in question. The selected schools were randomly selected, 131 and 81 males. A pretest and posttest consisting of the anxiety test, and the critical thinking skill task were administered to the groups. The Critical Thinking Skill Task (CTST), Students’ Anxiety Scale Test (SAST) and Students’ Interview Guide (SIG) were the instruments developed for this study. A respectable reliability coefficient of 0.78 and 0.74 was obtained from the respectively. Data collection took six weeks, and the analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS version 23. The collected data underwent multivariate analysis of covariance. The results revealed a significant difference in the methods used, univariate ANOVA on anxiety [F (3, 209) = 13.38; p<0.05]. However, gender does not have a statistically significant effect (F = 0.842, p = .360), nor does the interaction between method and gender (F = 2.262, p = .134), suggesting that the impact of methods on post-anxiety does not vary significantly by gender.

Abstract

To enhance student services and promote financial inclusion, Lagos State University (LASU), in collaboration with Lotus Bank, introduced a multifunctional identity card that integrates student identification with banking features and Near Field Communication (NFC) capabilities. This study evaluates the usability, adoption, and effectiveness of the LASU Student ATM ID card among the student population. The study was carried out among LASU students and a multistaged sampling techniques were adopted for the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to undergraduate students who had received the card. Five research questions were formulated and were interpreted. The findings revealed that the ATM ID card was widely accepted and used as a means of identification within some areas in the school but not being used in library, health centres, NFC portion of the card was not known to most of the students. Challenges identified include low awareness, and insufficient integration with university systems such as automated attendance. The study concludes by recommending enhancements to the card’s functionality, including improved awareness campaigns, better NFC integration within the university, and expansion of use cases within the campus environment.

Abstract

Learning Together strategy structures instructional activities around principles such as positive interdependence, individual accountability, promotive face-to-face interaction, social and collaborative skills, and group processing. This study examined the efficacy of learning together strategy on secondary school students’ attitude towards civic education. Quasi-experimental design, pretest-post-test control group design was employed. A total of 102 SS II students in two intact classes, located in two senatorial districts in Lagos State, participated in the study. Civic Education Attitude Questionnaire (CEAQ) with a reliability coefficient of 0.80 was used for data collection. Data collected were analysed using mean, standard deviation and ANCOVA. It was revealed that a statistically significant difference exists in the attitude of the students in the learning together and conventional lecture group, in favour of the earning together group [F(1, 100) = 7.99; p < 0.05].Also, there was no differential impact of gender on the attitude of students taught using learning together strategy. It was concluded that learning together is a potent strategy for enhancing students’ attitude towards civic education.

Abstract

The transformation of education in the digital era requires innovations in developing adaptive and contextual teaching materials. One potential solution is the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) technology through the Teachy App, an application that assists teachers in automatically designing instructional materials. This study aims to develop AI-based teaching materials using the Teachy App at SDN Pela and to examine their validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, including the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and learning achievement tests. Validation was carried out by subject matter and media experts, while limited and broader trials were conducted on fifth-grade students. The validation results showed an average score of 87.1% (highly valid). Practicality was categorized as very practical with a score of 85%, supported by students' positive responses to the media's design and ease of use. Effectiveness was demonstrated by an increase in the average score from 67.4 (pretest) to 84.7 (posttest), indicating a 17.3-point improvement. Therefore, the findings confirm that AI-based teaching materials developed using the Teachy App are feasible, valid, practical, and effective in supporting elementary school learning.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of environmental conservation-based Pop-Up Book media on fifth-grade students’ awareness of local cultural preservation at SDN 07 Kota Bima. The background highlights students’ limited understanding and low concern for cultural and environmental issues, which are frequently associated with conventional teaching methods. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of Pop-Up Book media in raising students’ awareness. A quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, involving 28 students selected through saturation sampling. Data were collected using tests, observations, and questionnaires, and analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and Paired Samples t-test. The results indicated a significant improvement (p < 0.05) from the average pretest score of 31.89 (low category) to the posttest score of 76.43 (high category). Student evaluations averaged 4.47 (good to very good), while teacher evaluations averaged 4.78 (very good). These findings suggest that Pop-Up Book media not only enhance learning outcomes but also promote cultural and environmental awareness, making them an innovative and effective instructional medium for elementary education.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop an interactive electronic student worksheet (E-LKPD) based on gamification to enhance the digital literacy of junior high school students. The study was conducted using a Research and Development (R&D) design with the ADDIE model, involving stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The product was validated by experts in media and material, obtaining feasibility percentages of 92% and 90% respectively, which were categorized as "very feasible." Data were collected through pretest, posttest, and response questionnaires to measure students’ improvement in digital literacy. The results showed an average N-gain score of 0.74, categorized as "high," indicating a significant increase in students’ digital literacy skills after using the developed E-LKPD. Students also responded positively to the interactive features and gamification elements, which increased their engagement and motivation in learning activities. In conclusion, the interactive E-LKPD based on gamification is effective, feasible, and practically applicable for classroom use in improving digital literacy among junior high school students.
