Abstract

Learners’ reading interest is developed based on personal reading histories; meaning that they have different reading experiences. The main purpose of this article is to present the research finding about the participant’s personal reading histories developing her reading interest. This is a Case Study by using document of Exploring Personal Reading Histories and interview for its instrument. The study found that the participant was introduced to reading through playing with words and numbers. After being able to read, she listened to stories indicating that stories are as the construction of words. The finding shows that the participant’s reading histories develop her reading interest by recognizing reading through interesting ways, media, and guidance. These The contribution of this study is the need of the implementation of Exploring Personal Reading Histories in Extensive Reading course in order to know how learners are interested in reading as well as to remind them with their meaningful reading experiences.

Abstract

Public speaking is an essential competence for EFL learners in Islamic higher education, particularly in related to English for Islamic Studies. However, EFL learners tend to pose psychological problems to enhance their public speaking. Traditional materials often fail to support students in overcoming speaking anxiety, enhancing fluency, and integrating Islamic perspectives into English learning. This study aims to develop and evaluate a digital flipbook as an innovative learning medium to enhance students’ public speaking skills. Using a Research and Development (R&D) design with the 4 D model, the study involved twenty seven students from one of rural islamic higher institutions. The digital flipbook was designed to integrate interactive content, Islamic values, and deep learning features to provide adaptive feedback. Validation by media and material experts indicated high feasibility (≥ 85%). Students’ public speaking performance, assessed through pre- and post-tests, showed significant improvement across fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation, and confidence. Furthermore, students reported positive perceptions of the flipbook, noting increased engagement, motivation, and alignment with their academic and religious needs. The findings highlight the potential of digital flipbooks to bridge technology and Islamic education, providing an effective tool to support EFL learners’ speaking development in Islamic higher education.

Abstract

The phenomenon of phubbing ignoring social interactions by focusing more on smartphone use is increasingly widespread among students at SMAS Budi Satrya Medan and has a significant impact on their learning behaviour. This study aims to identify the negative effects of phubbing on students’ concentration, motivation, and academic performance, as well as to explore the strategies teachers implement to address this issue. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, in depth interviews, and document analysis. The results indicate that phubbing behaviour causes serious attention diversion, disrupts the learning process, lowers student participation, and weakens social interaction in the classroom. Teachers employ various methods such as restricting smartphone use during lessons, educating students about the negative impacts of phubbing, using face-to-face communication approaches, and assigning group tasks to minimize phubbing effects. This study emphasizes the crucial role of educators in actively raising awareness and creating a conducive learning environment to reduce phubbing behaviour and support optimal academic achievement in the digital era.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe physical and non-physical accessibility in implementing inclusive education at SDN 006 Sangkulirang. The qualitative research approach with qualitative descriptive type, with eight informants, using instruments through interview guides. Data collection using interview techniques, observation and documentation. Interviews are the primary technique in data collection. Data analysis uses an interactive analysis model by Miles and Huberman through data presentation, condensation and conclusion drawing. The results of the study found that inclusive education on physical and non-physical accessibility at SDN 006 Sangkulirang is still inadequate, both in facilities and infrastructure, access to inclusive classrooms is not yet fully available, the physical environment of the school is not fully friendly for all students. These limitations can hinder the active participation and independence of children in participating in teaching and learning activities at school. While non-physical accessibility, teachers have shown good initiatives through the implementation of differentiated learning and the use of audio-visual media. These efforts help students with special needs in understanding the subject matter, and still need to be improved with the role of teachers in the practice of inclusive education.

Abstract

21st-century education demands that children learn to work together from an early age, but arts and culture education in elementary schools is still largely traditional and teacher-centered, which limits opportunities for collaboration. This study aims to investigate how students' collaborative skills in traditional dance education are affected by the Team Games Tournament (TGT) model that uses Big Book media. Twenty fourth-grade students from SDN 39 in Bima City were chosen through a saturated sampling process as part of the study's quasi-experimental design, which used a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A collaboration ability assessment, observational sheets, and documentation were among the research tools. Normality tests and Paired Sample t-Tests were used for data analysis. The results showed that using TGT in conjunction with Big Book improved students' group collaboration, communication, accountability, and engagement. Big Book media enhanced student participation in educational competitions and improved understanding of traditional dance content. According to this study, the combination of TGT and Big Book greatly improved students' teamwork skills and made it easier to implement the Pancasila Student Profile within the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

Creative thinking is a crucial skill for the 21st century; however, elementary school children often struggle to develop it due to monotonous teaching methods and limited educational resources. This study aimed to develop and evaluate interactive question card media to enhance the creative thinking skills of third-grade students at SDN 49 Kota Bima. The research utilized a Research and Development (R&D) methodology, specifically the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) framework. There were 22 students in all, with 7 in a small group trial and 15 in a large group trial. Material and media specialists did the validation, students looked at how practical it was, and the N-Gain formula was used to compare pretest and posttest scores to find out how effective it was. The results showed that the tests were very valid, with scores of 92.50% and 95.22%. They were also very practical, with scores of 89.29% and 88.64%. The N-Gain of 0.353 showed that they were only moderately effective. As a result, interactive question card media are real, useful, and effective as other tools for teaching in elementary school classrooms.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between senior mentoring programs and the adaptation process of first-year university students. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with first-year students who participated in a structured senior mentoring program. The findings reveal that consistent interactions, effective communication, and role modeling from senior mentors significantly enhance both academic and social integration among new students. Mentoring not only helps students understand academic systems and manage learning challenges but also fosters self-confidence, a sense of belonging, and emotional attachment to the campus environment. However, the effectiveness of the program is strongly influenced by the quality of the mentor–mentee relationship, the mentor's empathy, and institutional support through training and monitoring systems. The study recommends that higher education institutions design mentoring programs with clear structures, provide communication and leadership training for mentors, and ensure appropriate mentor–mentee matching to optimize adaptation outcomes. These findings contribute to the growing body of literature on peer mentoring and student retention, offering practical insights for improving student engagement and reducing dropout rates in the first year.
