Abstract

The study explores Jasser Auda’s concept of the multidimensional system (ta‘addud al-ab‘ad), which represents a major methodological innovation in contemporary Islamic legal thought, particularly in reconciling apparently contradictory arguments. Auda’s systemic framework views Islamic law as a dynamic and open structure composed of interrelated dimensions textual, contextual, rational, moral, and purposeful (maqāṣidiyyah). This research aims to analyze how Auda’s multidimensional approach functions epistemologically to harmonize conflicting evidences while positioning maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah as the normative axis of interpretation. Using a qualitative research design with a critical hermeneutics and systems-thinking paradigm, the study examines Auda’s major works Maqasid al-Shariah as Philosophy of Islamic Law: A Systems Approach, Fiqh al-Maqasid, and Reclaiming the Maqasid al-Shariah through in-depth content analysis of primary and secondary sources. The findings reveal that Auda’s multidimensional system not only reconciles divergent legal arguments but also promotes a more adaptive, integrative, and value-oriented ijtihad process. It repositions Islamic law as a living system responsive to social dynamics while maintaining its normative authenticity. This approach contributes to the renewal of Islamic epistemology toward a holistic, contextual, and maqāṣid-based paradigm.

Abstract

The increasingly pluralistic global society has greatly influenced the dynamics of Islamic Religious Education (IRE), which plays a vital role in shaping students’ moral and spiritual character. In Indonesia’s multicultural context, IRE faces challenges in cultivating tolerance amid social polarization, religious exclusivism, and moral disintegration in the digital era. This study aims to analyze the strategies and implementation of tolerance value revitalization in IRE learning as a response to multicultural challenges in modern education. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with a library research method, this research examines classical Islamic literature, contemporary studies, and national education policies. The analysis highlights Islamic principles such as tasamuh (tolerance), ta’awun (cooperation), ukhuwah insaniyah (human fraternity), and ‘adl (justice) as foundational values for social harmony and peace. The findings reveal that IRE can effectively foster multicultural awareness when learning processes are reflective, dialogical, and contextual. Revitalization of tolerance values is realized through curriculum reform promoting religious moderation, teacher exemplarity as moral role models, and the development of inclusive educational environments. The study concludes that revitalizing tolerance in IRE is essential for building students’ humanistic character and strengthening national unity in a diverse society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of the implementation of character education at MTs Muhammadiyah Gedongtengen Yogyakarta. This program is motivated by institutional anxiety about the negative impact of social media, such as the rise of extreme thinking, and the need to fortify students' character in line with the vision of the madrasah. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Primary data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews with Madrasah Heads, Vice Heads, and PAI teachers, and validated through observation and documentation. The results of the study show that implementation runs as a holistic management cycle. Planning is participatory by involving cross-disciplinary teachers. The implementation of a unique service culture pressure, namely "caring, compassion, and diligence", is manifested through the example of teachers (e.g. congregational prayers) and proactive home visits. Evaluation is carried out consistently through monthly observation meetings and daily observations. This study concludes that this model works effectively. The most significant result was an increase in students' critical thinking skills in filtering information on social media, which fortified them from extreme understanding while strengthening their daily worship practices.

Abstract

Karawang, an agrarian area located in West Java, has recently experienced a rapid industrial transformation that has led to a breakdown in intergenerational transmission of local farming knowledge and ecological values. As a response to this situation, Imah Urang Educational Tourism implemented a rice agriculture education program situated in outdoor learning experiences that uses Kolb’s (2015) Experiential Learning framework. The aim of the current study is to describe the experiential learning that occurs in the program, and examine how each phase of the cycle (Concrete Experience, Reflective Observation, Abstract Conceptualization, and Active Experimentation) informs development of agrarian, ecological and cultural values. Data were collected using a descriptive qualitative method where observation, interviews with key stakeholders and documentation provided the basis of analysis of findings. The findings demonstrated that the program successfully encouraged participation in experiential activities and evoked empathy for farmers and ecological thinking, as well as valuing culture. The study concludes that non-formal educational tourism that uses an experiential educational approach in agrarian areas impacted by industry can act as a practical educational model for sustainability learning.
