Abstract

This study aims to develop a Stand-Up Comedy–based module for teaching anecdotal writing to 10th-grade Madrasah Aliyah students. Writing anecdotal texts requires critical and creative thinking skills; therefore, engaging, contextual, and relevant learning media are needed. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the ADDIE model through quantitative and qualitative approaches. Quantitative data were obtained from pretests and posttests in control and experimental classes, while qualitative data were collected through interviews with students and teachers. The needs analysis revealed that students struggled to understand the structure and humor elements of anecdotal texts, yet showed high interest in stand-up comedy. Expert validation of the material, language, cultural, and media aspects indicated a feasibility level of 95.83%–100%, meaning the module was highly feasible with minor revisions. Implementation of the module resulted in a significant improvement in students’ writing skills. At MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru, the average score increased from 63.5 to 75.8, while at MA Ummatan Wasathan, it increased from 60 to 73.5. The Stand-Up Comedy–based module effectively enhanced students’ understanding of structure, creativity, and their ability to express criticism humorously. Overall, this research offers an instructional innovation by integrating popular comedy media into Indonesian language learning, producing a valid, practical, and effective module.

Abstract

Speaking remains one of the most challenging skills for EFL learners, particularly in contexts where classroom interaction is limited. To address this issue, interactive techniques such as Guessing Games are widely considered effective for promoting learner participation. This study aims to investigate students’ engagement in an EFL speaking classroom through the use of Guessing Games and to explore their perceptions of its implementation. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, the research was conducted in a secondary senior high school in Karawang Regency, West Java, Indonesia, involving one intact class of 30 eleventh-grade students aged 16–17. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and classroom observation checklists, and analyzed using data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that students demonstrated strong behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement during the learning process. They followed classroom rules, listened attentively, and maintained focus; expressed enthusiasm, enjoyment, and positive emotions; and showed cognitive growth by enhancing their vocabulary, applying critical thinking, and demonstrating creativity when describing objects. Additionally, the activity fostered stronger peer and teacher–student connections. In conclusion, Guessing Games effectively support a more interactive, motivating, and engaging speaking classroom, making them a valuable technique for EFL instruction.

Abstract

The integration of information technology in the education system has become an urgent need, especially in the academic assessment system. One of the growing innovations is the implementation of digital report cards as a replacement for conventional assessment systems. This study aims to analyze the readiness of educators in adopting this technology, identify the benefits and challenges in its implementation, and provide strategic recommendations to optimize the implementation of digital report cards. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through a questionnaire with narrative answers and a review of relevant literature. The results showed that digital report cards provide significant benefits in improving the efficiency, transparency, and accuracy of the assessment system. However, some challenges are still faced, such as limited infrastructure, low digital literacy of educators. Therefore, the strategic recommendations include improving technology infrastructure and continuous training for educators. With the right strategy, digital report cards can be an innovative solution in the education system, support broader digital transformation, and improve the quality of academic management in educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a project-based short story reading module to improve 21st-century skills in junior high school students. In the Merdeka Curriculum, students are required to master the 4Cs—critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication—through active and meaningful learning. Short stories were chosen because of their simple structure, appeal, and ability to foster analytical skills and moral understanding. The project-based approach encourages students to engage in collaborative activities, problem solving, and creative work. The research used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model. Data was obtained through pre-tests and post-tests as well as interviews with teachers and students. Expert validation of the material, language, media, and cultural aspects showed an average suitability of 93.98% (very suitable). Limited trials with 60 students showed a significant increase in 4C skills, especially collaboration and communication. Student responses showed an average of 87.5%, indicating that the module was easy to understand, increased interest in reading, and fostered confidence in presentations. Overall, this project-based short story reading module proved to be valid, practical, and effective in supporting the development of 21st-century skills and creating more engaging and meaningful reading learning.

Abstract

Education plays an important role in improving the quality of learning, particularly through the development of effective learning resources. This study aims to determine the effect of reading literacy methods and the use of Serang Javanese comics on the vocabulary skills of fourth-grade students at SDN Kubang Apu. The research method used was a quasi-experiment with a nonequivalent control group design and a quantitative approach. The research instruments were tested for validity and reliability using SPSS, resulting in 30 valid items from 40 statements, with a reliability value of 0.895. The analysis results showed that the data were normally distributed, linear, free of multicollinearity, and had homogeneous variance. Hypothesis testing proved that the literacy method and the use of Serang Javanese comics had a significant effect on improving students' vocabulary skills (p < 0.05). The average pre-test score of 65.41 increased to 74.66 on the post-test, showing an increase of 9.25 points. The use of comics proved to be effective because the visuals and storyline helped students understand the context of vocabulary more easily and interestingly. Thus, the combination of literacy methods and Serang Javanese comics was able to improve vocabulary skills while strengthening the preservation of regional languages in elementary school environments.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the phenomenon of a significant decrease in the number of new students at SMP IT Raudhatur Rahma Pekanbaru in the last three years, which ultimately led to the school not opening the New Student Admission (PPDB) in 2024. The purpose of this study is to analyze the implementation of promotional programs in PPDB at SMP IT Raudhatur Rahma, examine the types of promotions used, and identify the obstacles faced in its implementation. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the school has implemented a promotional strategy by referring to the marketing mix principles (7P), AIDA model, STP, and Promotion Mix components. The promotional strategies used include distributing brochures, direct visits to elementary schools, using social media, and providing incentives such as discounts and vouchers. However, the implementation of promotion has not run optimally due to several obstacles, including: the absence of a special promotion team, the limited utilization of digital media, and the lack of physical facilities that affect the school's image.

Abstract

This study investigates the application of the Genre-Based Approach in differentiated instruction to enhance students' writing skills. It also examines students' responses to the implementation of this approach in developing their writing abilities. The research employs a qualitative methodology with a case study design. The research participants consist of an English teacher and 41 eighth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the teacher applied the four stages of the GenreBased Approach, namely BKOF, MOT, JCOT, and ICOT, which were combined with differentiated learning in writing skills. The study also shows that students experienced an increase in motivation and confidence and shows active participation in the learning process. However, it is found a number of challenges in its implementation. For teachers, the challenge lies in the limited time available, as GBA learning requires a lengthy and gradual process. Meanwhile, the challenges faced by students are related to their individual limitations in English language proficiency, necessitating intensive guidance and additional support during the writing process. Overall, this study demonstrates that the integration of GBA and differentiated learning can create a more inclusive, focused, and student-centered writing learning process.
