Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Hypercholesterolemia is a condition in which increased cholesterol concentration in the blood exceeds normal values. Consuming fats and foods rich in cholesterol can increase total cholesterol levels in the blood and cause cholesterol buildup in the arteries. Starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) has saponin and flavonoid compounds which are expected to play a role in reducing total cholesterol levels. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of star fruit juice (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) to total cholesterol blood levels of male Wistar strain (Rattus norvegicus) with a high-fat diet. Method: Experimental study with post-test only control group design. Twenty-four male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) of the Wistar strain are divided into 3 groups: the experimental group which is given standard diet for 28 days; group of experimental animals who were given a high-fat diet for 28 days; the experimental group treated with a high-fat diet for 28 days and on the 15th until 28th days were given starfruit juice (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) with a dose of 4ml/200grwieght/day. On the 29th day, it is measuredtotal cholesterol levels for all groups of experimental animals. Results: The One-Way ANOVA test shows a significant increase in the average of total cholesterol levels (p = 0,009) in group of experimental animals that are given a high-fat diet (x = 60,625± 3,462mg/dL) compared to groups of experimental animals given standard diet (x = 50± 8,468mg/dL). There is a increase in the average in cholesterol level of the experimental group given a high-fat diet and the starfruit juice (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) (x = 65,5 ± 8,960) compared to the mean total cholesterol level of group of animals given a high-fat diet (x = 60,625± 3,462). However, there is no significant increase (p = 0,201). Conclusion: Administration of starfruit juice (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) was not significantly difference in statistics on average of cholesterol level to male wistar rat (Rattus norvegicus) induced by high fat diet

Abstract

Abstract Military personnel have a high risk of suffering from depression due to the nature of their work and training, separation from family, carrying out military missions, changing tasks, assignments in narrow places (warships) and being exposed to dangerous events and equipment. In a study by Al-Amri et al., in Saudi Arabia by taking 357 random samples, it was found that the prevalence of depression was 17.1% in an area of military operations in the Middle East. PDSKJI (2017) reports that 3.7% of the population in Indonesia suffers from depressive disorders. This study is a case report pre and post test design as many as 4 patients of naval soldiers who have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder who will receive standard therapy in the form of antidepressants and psychotherapy. First, an assessment of the level of depression was carried out using the BDI (Beck Depression Inventory) and HDRS (Hamilton Depression Rating Scale). Standard therapy for depression was given to both groups and one group plus TMS augmentation therapy, power adjusted to RMT (resting motor threshold), TMS therapy protocol with amplitude 100% high frequency 18 Hz, 2 sec with inter-train intervals of 20 sec, 55 and 59 train for 20 minutes 5 times a week. From the results of this study, clinically all patients who received TMS augmentation showed better clinical results starting from the first week of therapy with a decrease in BDI scores of 15 points and HDRS scores of 14 points. Scores decreased by a difference of 6-8 points on the BDI scale and a difference of 5-7 on the HDRS scale in patients receiving standard therapy compared to those receiving standard therapy and TMS augmentation. Keywords : Depression – BDI / HDRS - Soldier - TMS

Abstract

Abstract Background : Obesity is an energy balance disorder, ketogenic diet can reduce body weight. Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) is a type of vegetable material that is often used as an antioxidant, hypocholesterolemia and hypotriglyceridemia drug. Cucurbitasin is a substance produced by bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) with a bitter taste which causes in decreasing appetite, resulting in a decrease in triglycerides. This is caused by the bioactivity of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) which can increase lipid oxidation, which causes the accumulation of decreased fat tissue which can reduce weight. Methods: This research using pre and post test randomized controlled group design with sample size of 30 male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) wistar lines divided into 3 groups, group 1 as negative control group given standard feed, group 2 as positive control group given high-fat diet with a dose of 2.5 ml and group 3 as a treatment group given a high-fat feed with dose of 2.5 ml and extract of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) at dose of 37.5 mg / 150 gBB by feeding tube every morning for 28 days. Data were analyzed by T-paired tests. Result: The T-paired test in each group found a significantly different result of p = 0,000. Conclusion: given bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) extract and high-fat diet can reduce weight in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). Keywords:Bitter molon extract, high fat feed, weight loss

Abstract

Abstract Background: Being overweight in a person increases the risk of developing degenerative diseases, including diabetes mellitus which is still the most common cause of death, thus maintaining a normal weight allows a person to reach a longer life expectancy. One of the activities that can make normal weight is physical activity. The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple, inexpensive and easy method of assessing a person's nutritional status, but BMI can’t measure body fat directly. So that in this study activities will be carried out to get a relationship between physical activity with BMI for FK-UWKS students 2016-2017. Methode: 124 respondents from the 2016 and 2017 FK-UWKS students and taken randomly. The research method used was an analytic observational study with a cross sectional study. Data taken includes BMI, and physical activity. Statistical test with Spearman correlation test (x2). In the early stages of the study anthropometric measurements were carried out to determine Student BMI. Physical activity is measured by recalling activities that students do every day. Results: groups that always carried out physical activity were 24 respondents who had a normal body mass index, while the group that had never carried out physical activity had 57 respondents with a body mass index with details (3 respondents with less BMI, 11 respondents with normal BMI, 30 respondents with excessive BMI and 13 respondents with Obesity BMI)as well as groups that sometimes carried out physical activities totaling 43 respondents had a relatively normal body mass index. Conclution: There is a relationship between physical activity and the Body Mass Index in the 2016 and 2017 FK-UWKS students

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background : Dengue virus infection is still a health problem in Surabaya. On 2015 Insidence Rate (IR) for Surabaya is 22.50 and the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) is 2%. This figure has decreased compared to 2014, but has not met the target achievement indicator for the P2DBD target CFR <1%. Method : The study was conducted in the rainy season, May 2015 in several Puskesmas areas in Surabaya. Samples were randomly selected as many as 378 houses spread in eight health centers (Pegirian, Krembangan Selatan, Hamlet Wall, Tambak Rejo, Putat Jaya, Simomulyo, Sawahan and Tanahkali Kedinding). The larvae survey was conducted using the single larva method. Larvae were taken from breeding sites and stored in specimen bottles for species identification at the Parasitology Laboratory Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga. Result : The highest House Index (HI) was obtained (60.46%) or the 39.54% larvae free rate in Simomulyo and the lowest HI (33.33%) or 66.67% ABJ in Pegirian Puskesmas. Larvae species identification showed 100% was Aedes aegypti. The high HI value at the Simomulyo Health Center is not in line with the number of cases of dengue virus infection in 2015 which was 4 cases. Whereas in Pegirian Health Center with the lowest HI value found 11 cases. Discussion : These results could be due to the possibility because the study did not calculate larval density and high population mobility in the area.
